Can the Curt RV Bumper Hitch Be Used to Mount a Winch?

Question:

Could this part C19101 or would you have a recommendation for a bolt on receiver tube that could be used to attach a 12000 winch to a car hauler open trailer. The attachment would be to the front horizontal 2 inch sq rail on the trailer, or to a vertical 2 inch sq rail. Maybe a pintle type bolt on for a 2 inch receiver? The ideal attachment point would be where the horizontal and vertical are joined, but a spare wheel mount would have to be cut off. See pictures. The spare mount is in red box. Thank you for any help

Hey Bruce, thanks for the pictures. I would not recommend installing the Curt RV Bumper Hitch item # C19101 on your car hauler's rails to use as a winch mount. Even when used for towing it's only got a 3,500 lbs capacity. You really run the risk of hurting yourself and/or causing some damage with as much tension is placed on those winch cables.

I do not have a comparable option that will work. Instead, I recommend using the 12,000 lbs Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch item # BDW10039, that can be mounted directly to your trailer's deck. This winch is designed specifically for flat bed car haulers like yours.

What kind of vehicle's do you haul?

Jerred H - Thanks for your reply. I wanted to avoid a floor mount because the winch will be mounted to a cradle hitch mount so that it can be easily moved from the receiver on the trailer mount to the receiver on my truck. I'll search again to see if there are floor mounts with a receiver. The 2 main vehicles would be 3,400# and 3,500#. Thanks Bruce

@Bruce You're welcome! That makes sense. The item # BDW10039 would definitely not be a portable solution. With those lower weights, the etrailer RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver item # e38HR might work with your setup. It is not designed for a winch though. You can flip this and mount it over and around that top railing and bolt it around the 2" wide center support. It's rated for 3,500 lbs of towing. I stayed away from this recommendation thinking you were using your winch for heavier vehicles.
