Stationary Chair Arms

Stromberg Carlson's two-bike carrier for RVs easily clamps around the vertical supports of your exterior ladder. The non-marring material on the clamps helps to keep the carrier from scratching your RV ladder. Simply insert the included pins into the brackets to secure the arms in place so the rack does not sway while you are driving. With your bike's front wheel hanging toward the ground, place the seat post in the cradles on the carrier's arms. Then secure your bike in place with the straps on the cradles.

Pivoted Rack Arms

When bikes are not mounted, the carrier's arms pivot out left and right to allow access to your motor home's ladder. To move the rack arms, just remove the pull pins from the top of each bracket. Swing the arms out and reinsert the pins so that the arms are tightly secured in place. This allows you to use your RV ladder without having to remove the entire bike rack. When you are ready to use the carrier again, the arms easily pivot back in place and secure with the pull pins.

Video Transcript for Stromberg Carlson RV Ladder Mount 2 Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Stromberg Carlson Ladder Mounted 2 Bike Rack for RVs. Part number is LA-102. This ladder mounted bike rack is going to allow us to easily transport up to two bikes to wherever we're headed. It offers a light weight aluminum construction, it's going to stand up to the elements very nicely. We've got two sets of cradles, of two a piece, these are designed to hold the down tube of the seat of the bike. The rubber strap is easily removable. It's got a good length to it, this is going to allow us to get up to a two inch diameter bike frame taken care of.

The construction of it, nice heavy duty but still light weight. It's going to give us all the way up to twenty five pounds per bike for a total of fifty pounds. The inner liner of the cradle is a rubberized material. It's got grooves or indentations all the way in it to help get the cables and stuff like that of your braking system down out of the way so they don't get crushed. Then to adjust for different size bikes or different widths of bike, we have the fully sliding cradles. Just giving them a little wiggle forward and back is going to allow us to get those adjustments made.

Installation is simple, you've just got eight small lock washers and screws that we have to put in. Those will go in through the rear into our clamps here. The inside of those are ribbed to try to help protect the ladder from any scratches or any damage. As you can see here, at our top mounting location, we put this on top of the rung of the ladder. In the instructions, they kind of had it up here in the middle a little bit, I just like having it right above there to give us some extra support. Do what you wish with that.

Pulling the pins that we have here at the top, this will allow us to swing out our arms. We'll then reinsert our pins to hold it there in that position. With our rack swung out of the way, as you can see, we're now going to have access to get onto our ladder and get up to the roof or whatever we need to do. Now we're ready to load up our bikes. We'll start on our inside cradle here. We're going to release the straps on both of our cradles.

We can then place our bike right up into our cradles. We'll be using the down tube of our seat. We'll rotate our cradles up into position. It may move a little bit when we're putting our bike on, when we bring our straps around and we can hook it right in. As you can see, we've got our tire mounted towards the inside of the RV. That's going to keep any overhang to a minimum. We've got our handle bars and our seat both well inside the rear of our RV, so we're not going to have anything hanging out. Let's grab our second one, place it right up in there like we did the first. Again, as you can see, those adjustable cradles make it nice. We've got these out here on the end, allowing us plenty of room to get our bike on. There we go, we're ready to head down the road and enjoy our next ride. That will complete today's look at the Stromberg Carlson Ladder Mounted 2 Bike Rack, part number LA-102. .

found dificulty on setting bike rack up. Could not get bikes to set on hooks properly. one of the bands btoke when trying to load both bikes on. Bikes are normal his/her 10 mountian bikes. There was nothing special about the bike that they would not go on correctly. After bending a hook and breaking a band we ended up throwing out bike rack. We would not tell any one to buy this type of bike rack. Thank you, Sandra Wagner 377882

Appears to be good quality, fits well on my trailer. Product is pretty much exactly what I expected. Installation was fairly simple. Bolts were a bit short as others mentioned in their reviews. Start by getting a few threads on one side, clamping the other side together with vise grips makes getting the nut on the other side of the clamp much easier. Have a 10mm wrench handy. 300978

just installed the bike rack. It appears to be sturdy and made well however as in all the other reviews the screws were not long enough. we had to make a trip to the hardware store to get longer screws to use on one side of the bracket. we had to use the original screws for the other side because it could only be accessed with the allen wrench. It took 2 hours to put together including the trip to the store. Hopefully it will hold up! 274821

The bike rack is adequate. We keep our camper in covered storage. The cord that holds the pins in is faded and is showing alot of wear. Also one of the the pads that you set the bike on is tearing. It still holds the bikes in place well but I wonder about the longevity of this bike rack. I dont thinks it will last as long as I hope

I drove almost 3,000 miles with one mountain bike, a reclining deck chair and captains chair on the rack, and it didn't move at all. For assembly, I did need to get longer screws as the ones sent with it weren't long enough for attachment around the ladder uprights. They are metric screws for anyone else running into this problem. I also used locking washers and nuts as a precaution against them coming loose during all the driving. It's easy to swing the arms out of the way, as I did need to climb onto the roof of the camper after the trip. 99771

Our bicycle rack is working perfectly. We carry our bicycle on all of our RV trips. My husband loves it.

1. Had I not read earlier reviews and did not purchase longer screws, installation would have been even worse than it already was. 2. The metal used arrives "marred" and the padding on the bike arms has discoloration spots. 3. There is protective material (plastic wrap) on both arms. However; the material is not the same on both arms. why would you wrap the arms in two differing types of plastic wrap 4. Screws were metric as was the nuts. Makes it tough to "hold" locking nuts if you don't have a metric wrench or rachet 5. Normally when you have a bolt and nut situation, the attachment process proceeds from the outside to the inside......bolt goes through the brackets (towards the RV) and the nut is on the backside (nearest the RV). The quality of the engineering made getting a "grip" on the bolt was almost impossible (no room for wrench heads) and having clear access for the hex wrench was all but impossible. In order to sanely complete the installation, the bolt had to come through from the backside and the nut was on the "outside" of the install. Even from a safety standpoint this makes no sense. The working surface of the rack faces outward and now you have unprotected bolt ends creating a potential injury producer. 6. If you are seeking good help from the instructions, you won't find it. Black and white photos clarity and detail leave much to be desired. 7. If it looks to good to be true, it probably is. Run when you see this product - or at the very least be prepared to be an octopus during the install. 282032

This product was great, would have been simple to install with 2 people, but I managed to get it done by myself. I was particularly impressed with etrailer.com's quick shipment! I placed the order on Tuesday night and forgot that I needed it by Friday morning before I chose economy shipping. I went back to the site Wednesday midmorning to see if I could have it 2 day shipped instead. It had already been shipped. My original thought was "great it is already on the "slow boat to China" Much to my surprise it arrived Thursday mid morning! Truly impressed with the efficiency of this company! 156410

Yes I did receive the racks and they look great, my husband put them on and his comments were he wished the screws were longer, and the latch down loops were tough to get hooked over the bikes. Also we thought it would be nice if it came with some pads to keep the bikes from banging together or against our spare. Overall we lke the product, and the construction it seems sturdy and we like that it swings out of the way for ladder access. Your service was very prompt, which is always appreciated. 100583

I recently purchased this bike rack. I am disappointed in the engineering of the mounting and tie downs. First of all, the customer should not have to wish the screws were longer. You can start one screw, but there is no way to get the second screw started due to the angle the bracket sits at. I enlarged the holes and had to install new bolts in order to fit around the 1 inch diameter roof ladder Most people just dont have metric screws the right length needed laying around the house. Secondly the durometer of the latch down hoops is so stiff that it is impossible to stretch the holes over the pins they connect to. I found the only way to hook them is to use a vice grip and leverage to pry them over the pins. If you mount the bike rack high on your RV ladder, you will find yourself on a step stool cussing out the poor design and material ion. I would not recommend this bike rack to anyone.

Rack installed really easy only issue was with the screws being a little hard to get in once you started the first one but with the help of a pair of small vice grips i was able the pinch the two pieces of the bracket together to get the second screw started. The picture of the parts shows plastic mounting brackets but mine came with aluminum guess they upgraded for the better from what the older models came with. Haven't had a chance to use it while traveling but all in all looks well made and would recommend to others. 202844

We installed the bike rack on our class A motor coach. Product is as described. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that the Allan wrench is difficult to use because the end is 1/4 too long to be easy to use on the inside screws. 523320

The bike rack works fine. We have been on the road for 6 of the last 12 months, and bikes stay put. Couple of small issues though. The plastic sleeves that keep the shafts tight in the clamps tend to become loose and slide down. not a big problem, but does allow more vibration. Also, the rubber straps the clamp the bikes down are hard to use. One of them actually broke while trying to remove a bike. Again, not a big problem as I use bungee cords to help secure the bikes to the ladder. The product does what I wanted and for the money, was a good deal. 708497

Received in good condition. I am using the Ladder Mount Rack LA-102 on my RV to carry my pedal assist, Sondors Electric bike. Due to the location of the battery box in the triangle portion of the frame, I have to carry the bike upside down. That is with the front wheel up and using the seat post frame but on the opposite side. I think this will work well except for not being able to use the rubber straps because the space between the battery box and frame post is too small. I have to use a total of three bungee cords to hold the bike on and in an upright position. I have included pictures. Please let me know if you think there will be problems using the rack in this manner. 558787

  • How to Carry Electric Bike and Cruiser Bike on Trailer or RV
We do have a great selection of RV/trailer approved bike racks available, however the Stromberg Carlson 2 Bike Carrier # LA-102 that you referenced isn't going to be your best option. This particular rack features a weight capacity of just 25 pounds per bike, which likely falls under the weight for both your electric and standard cruiser bike. For your two bikes, I instead recommend going with a hitch-mounted rack that will provide stronger support for your investments. If you are putting...

The Stromberg Carlson 2 Bike Carrier # LA-102 itself only weighs 7 lbs and it has a weight capacity of 25 lbs per bike. That means the most weight you will be putting on your ladder is 57 lbs which isn't a whole lot considering that ladder is meant for grown adults to climb. Another option that you may not be aware...

The part # LA-102 will attach to 1 inch supports but not 1-1/2 inch. Check out the Swagman Ladder Bike Rack part # S80630. This should work well on your RV ladder as it attaches to the ladder rungs. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

  • Recommended Motor Home 2-Bike Rack for Use on Tioga Fleetwood Motor Home
As long as your Tioga Fleetwood motor home has a 1-1/4-inch or 2-inch trailer hitch installed at its rear then the Swagman XC 2-Bike Rack Platform Style for 1-1/4" and 2" Trailer Hitches # S64650 will fit the hitch. In terms of the rack fitting with the spare tire carrier and ladder at the rear of the MH, you can take a measurement to check compatibility. Please refer to the linked article. Measure from the hitch pin hole to the rear most part of the MH, which may be either the tire...

  • Bike Rack for 2010 Winnebago Adventure 35P That Is Flat-Towing 2010 GMC Terrain
Since the two RV ladder-mount racks you referenced, Stromberg Carlson # LA-102 and Surco # SP501BR, are both 2-bike carriers I will presume you have only 2 bikes to transport. What I suggest is installing a hitch on the Terrain, the Draw-Tite # 76028 which is shown in the linked installation video, and in it using an RV-approved 2-bike hitch rack, the cost-effective and lightweight BikeWing # B01311. This hitch/rack combination is less costly than most options and it offers certain...

  • Will The Ladder Mounted Bike Rack # LA-102 Work With Coaster Bikes With 30 Inch Spread Handlebars?
The Stromberg Carlson 2 Bike Carrier for RVs - Ladder Mount - Aluminum, # LA-102, will hold 2 bikes with a 25 lb capacity each. The weight is as much a concern for me as the handlebars, but the handlebars will fit fine if you tilt the wheels in as you mentioned. You will need to use a tie-down to secure the wheel so that your handlebars have the clearance they need from each other and from your RV to protect them. I recommend using a cinch strap like # SR0701

  • Fitment and Compatibility of Stromberg Carlson 2 Bike Carrier on a 2001 Ford Class B Trail Lite 22ft
I can help you find out if you will have proper clearance for your rear door on your 2001 Ford Trail Lite with the Stromberg Ladder Mount Bike Rack # LA-102. I would recommend measuring from the bottom of the bikes down tube, just above the gears, to the outer most point of the front wheel, see attached image. This measurement will be the further point that the bike will sit when on the rack and is going to tell you if there will be interference with the rear door. You will want...

  • Can the Cradles on the Ladder Mount Bike Rack LA-102 be Moved Forward or Back on the Arms
The pads, or cradles, on the Stromberg Carlson 2 Bike Carrier # LA-102 can be moved forward and backward on the arms of the rack for more or less space between the bikes. It takes some effort to move cradles. The cradles have to be a little hard to move, otherwise the bikes would slide around on the arms. The best way to move them is to twist while at the same time push or pull the cradle. Hairspray could work as a temporary lubricant which will then get sticky to hold the cradle in...

  • How Long are the Arms on the Stromberg Carlson Ladder Mount Bike Rack for RVs # LA-102
When installed, the ladder itself will extend out 16 inches further than the face of the ladder its mounted to. The distance it extends past that will depend on the bikes placed on the rack. I have edited a photo for you showing this dimension. The bike pedals should be more or less even with the end of the rack arm, but the handlebars will extend out further than that. If this does not provide you with enough clearance, you can loosen the bolt on your handlebar gooseneck enough so that...

  • Dolly Towing a Vehicle and Carrying Bikes at the Same Time with a Motorhome
There are no adapters with dual receivers for 2-1/2 inch hitches that would work for this specific application. But there are other ways to carry bikes on the back of your motorhome. For example if your motorhome has a 4 to 4-1/2 square, steel, fully welded bumper you could use # S64663, # S80605, or # S80501. I have linked videos of all 3 of these bike racks for you. Another option, if your motorhome has a ladder in the back, is to use a ladder mounted rack such as # S80630, # LA-102,...
