Will Lippert SolidSteps Work for You?

Fold-down steps are typically installed on travel trailers and some RVs. The fold-down steps from Lippert lift up to latch into your camper's doorway for storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

SolidStep Door Flanges

The Lippert SolidSteps install inside your camper's doorframe. Measuring for this may seem tricky, but once you know what to look for, figuring out the right fit for your RV doorway is easy.

SolidStep Door Flanges

Measure between the door frame flanges - the doorway width - to determine the step size that will fit into your camper's doorway. You will need a doorway that is at least 25" wide to 28-7/8" wide for these steps to work.

If it turns out you have a wider or narrower doorway, there are other step assemblies that fit doorways ranging from 24" wide to 36" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

To make sure your doors will close when the steps are installed, measure from the top of the threshold plate to the bottom of the door. You will need a gap of about 1/4" to 3/8" to allow the door to close over the step's mounting plate.

The doorway threshold will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

SolidStep Entry Height

To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, and it will tell you how many steps you need.

Once you know your doorway width and entry heigh measurements, the chart below will tell you which part number you need. This page's step assembly is in bold text.

Doorway WidthEntry Heightetrailer Part Number
24"22" - 28" LC713662
25" - 28.9"22" - 28"LC733931
27" - 36"LC791572
35" - 44"LC791574
29" - 36"22" - 28"LC733932
27" - 36"LC791573
35" - 44"LC791575

How Do You Install the Steps?

To install the steps:

  1. Make sure the camper is level on flat ground
  2. Place the mounting bracket into the camper doorway
  3. Extend until feet touch the ground
  4. Center the steps in the doorframe
  5. Slide assembly forward until firmly placed against outside threshold
  6. Install fasteners through the mounting holes into the camper floor

-Secure the hardware (not included) but dont tighten

  7. Lift the step assembly into the doorway and make sure the latching arm engages

-If necessary, loosen the bolts on the latching arm to adjust

  8. Tighten the latching arm bolts and the floor fasteners

Installations instructions provided with the product are really bad! But the ones on the online install video are pretty good!! The product is good, but the pins to adjust the legs are hard to pull out, they should have a key ring or something to help pull out. They also should be attach with a line yard or something. It’s a bit expensive but way better then regular RV stairs on the market.

by:

The steps work very well on my Montana 3665 RE fifth wheel. Had to do some modification on the internal step, but with that done the steps fit and function fine. Should solve my problem of hitting the low hung factory folding stairs.
Crushed them twice, only 6 inches of clearance from road. Now have 24 inches of clearance from road.

by:

The steps are great, the install was a little difficult.
they fit in the space, although the doors needed to be cut down and altered.
we took up the trip molding inside the door, and mounted the steps as flat as possible and the door would not close while the steps were out.

by:

Great overall. So like some others my package came damaged. All parts were there but the feet were unusable. But etrailer shipped replacements very quickly. I installed these steps on a 20 year old trailer, I had to trim the door a little bit but came out great.

by:

The steps are great. The two pins that hold the height adjustment arms (adjustable legs) are not great, they fall out and my wife can not press the little ball in to extend or retract. I have to line the pin then force it with my thumb to be secured in another hole.

by:

Love this and should have purchased it ages ago! Pins in the legs are kind of persnickity to deal with and sometimes you dump dirt into your camper if the backside of the steps are dirty when you fold it up. But small price to pay for a more secure and manageable step!

Good product at a decent place! Works great in a 2017 salem cruse lite

by:

I made the mistake of ordering this model instead of the exterior mount model. It does not fit (My mistake not yours) because it is too high. I modified my Clas"C"to try to make it fit. Had to shorten the door and change the threshold. It works ok but that's all. I just wish I had ordered the external mount model. I like the concept of a larger size of steps and they are very stable. If there was a video to demonstrate the difference between the interior and exterior mounting on class "C" rigs I would not have made the mistake. Great quality product.
Like I stated above" It was My mistake. My rig takes a shorter step by a couple inches. Most class "C" rigs do. It took quite a few mods to make it only "ok" rather than great.

So easy to install and proved to be a HUGE upgrade to our Micro Minnie. So stable and adjustable to different heights as needed.

These steps are still the best upgrade weve made to our trailer. Theyre easy to adjust and theyre super sturdy.

Just installed the Double Step Solid Step. It’s well built and as the name implies very solid. I have a 1978 Vintage Timberline trailer and I had concerns about fitting the steps. I called Lippert Customer Service and got excellent help. The steps fit but I had to modify my threshold taking the lower stop jam and the front lip out. Then all was good the only negative was the installation instructions. A little fuzzy and the illustration were not clear. But the steps are easy to install only needed the drill size for pilot holes. Great product we’ll enjoy them.

by:

Really good quality, definitely a step up from the original equipment that came on my open range 272 RLS. Definitely recommend to anybody considering the upgrade.

So here we are, all this time later and my Lippert solid step addition is still going as strong as the day I put them on. It has been a very nice upgrade. I cant believe that this doesnt come standard on all campers now. Thanks again Lippert!

Poor packaging and poor instructions

Installed on a 2017 Dutchman aspen trail, fits and looks great, easy install. Best price I found. Would recommend.

by:

Even though these steps are meant to be used in a conventional travel trailer, I installed them in a 1994 Fleetwood Southwind Class A motor home. I had to get creative to position them so the door would function properly, but it was worth the effort. They are great!!! The original electric steps stopped working properly long ago. I had replaced them with manually operated steps, but was never happy with them. These steps are fantastic, relatively simple to use, very stable and my wife loves them. What else can I say? They solved an eight year old problem. Thank you

Steps Still Working Great. I Would highly Recommend these steps.

by:

Super easy to install. Much nicer than the stock fold out steps.

Steps are excellent. I'm an older guy so sure footing is important for me. You get no bounce when you step on the Solidstep unit. The installation was a breeze. We keep a welcome mat just inside the door so when the Solidstep is folded up leaves or water drops on the mat. Also the stop step is wider giving me added protection against falling or missing the step when coming out of the trailer. The stair skid proof treads gives sure footing even in the rain. We Love this upgrade as mush as anything we have done to our travel trailer. Thank you Solidstep and etrailer.com

One year has passed since we installed the Solidstep from etrailer.com We are absolutely 100 happy with the Solidstep. The bottom legs are easy to adjust. They can be adjusted individually if you find yourself parked on an unlevel surface. As I said before Im an older guy and weigh over 300 lbs. the Solidstep makes my camping experience so much more enjoyable and safe. At the current time I have no problem lifting and lowering the steps into place but if later I begin having trouble I can just add the Lift assist kit and continue on. Also with the old steps gone I have an area under the RV to place a storage box for leveling blocks and other set up equipment. On a smaller camper added exterior storage is always a plus. I just cant boast enough about our Solidstep. Every RV or camper should have Solidsteps. I would be glad to help anyone with questions about the Solidstep. Thank you to etrailer.com and Solidstep for making us Happier Campers.

by:

Hello,

While the product is excellent,
it arrived in a box that had been opened and taped back together. Fortunately, I replaced similar steps that had been broken and reused the existing hardware, as none were included. There were a few small scratches as well, but I still installed them, as that would happen over time with daily use. I'd add a photo but I have already disposed of the box. I'll still order products as I need them.

Installed on horse trailer to replace damaged steps that was mounted underneath the trailer. Easy to install and well made.

by:

It is so much better than the 1 step we had! Much easier to get in and out of the camper. Love the bigger step near the door and the legs on the ground make it much more stable.

by:

Hey Carol, Thanks for checking in. Got the stairs today and immediately started install. The best steps ever. Can't say enough about etrailer customer support. Sorry about the pics. I was so anxious to get the install going I never thought about install photos, so only have the final product, which is amazing. Thank you all for the great support and another great product.

by:

Steps appear to be well-made, have not installed them yet, but appears to be a fairly simple installation.

Only draw back I see is the pins that lock the extendable legs could be lost fairly easily, and are a little difficult to line up.
Also, detent balls could gum up with dirt and stick .

I will be looking for another type of lock pin.

by:

The stairs went in easily. They are very well built and solid. So much nicer than the factory stairs! The process couldn't have been better, from ordering to shipping and delivery. Very satisfied!

Still loving the steps! No issues whatsoever.

Substantial unit. Very fast shipping and delivery.

I whish l had bought these steps a year ago. Closing inside trailer is the best way to protect them from the elements. My new steel steps rusted out in less than a year. These steps are well built and very stable when you enter. My wife really likes the extra dept in top step.

I whish I had bought these two years earlier. I wasted a lot of money on steel steps and watched them rust away.
