converter charger

This smart converter charger converts AC shore power into DC power and uses the Charge Wizard multistage charging system to charge your battery bank. If your RV already has a stock converter charger, it will need to be removed to ensure this unit operates properly.

Charge Wizard Operation

Using the built-in Charge Wizard, the converter charger automatically switches voltages while the battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge, but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. This charger is compatible with flooded lead acid, AGM, and gel batteries.

Charging Modes

  1. Boost: This mode charges at the full rated load for a quicker recharge time. This is where most of the charging happens. It charges the battery up to 90% of the full capacity.
  2. Normal: This mode provides controlled voltage to ensure a full charge. Once the battery begins to reach capacity, the normal state will kick in and reduce the voltage to safely complete the charge.
  3. Storage: Once the battery reaches full charge and remains unused for 30 hours, this mode maintains a lower voltage to compensate for self-discharge. This reduces battery stress and minimizes gassing and water loss.
  4. Equalization: This mode activates to prevent stratification and sulfate buildup during extended storage cycles. These two issues can damage a battery by causing the accumulation of acid at the bottom of the battery and hardened sulfate crystals on the battery plates. This mode is especially helpful when your battery is going unused during storage.

Safety Features

cooling fan

The system includes a number of safety features. It has a reverse polarity protection that will protect the converter if the battery is hooked up incorrectly. Additionally, the unit includes protection for overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent, which can damage your equipment, as well as the converter. It also has GFCI protection that shuts off power when there is a current imbalance. The built-in cooling fan also removes excess heat from the unit. The fan speed is proportional to the internal temperature on the converter, so when the power demand is low, the fan will operate quietly.

Available Converter Status Remote Pendant for Easy Monitoring and Control

converter status remote pendant

The Converter Status Remote Pendant (sold separately) monitors the converter's charging status. It also allows you to manually override the charge process to verify the unit is operating properly. The pendant uses a flashing green LED to indicate what charging mode is active. It easily connects to the converter's accessory port with the attached cable.

How It Installs

The converter mounts horizontally inside your RV in a dry location with ventilation. However, as long as the unit has sufficient ventilation, it can also be mounted vertically. The mounting hardware is not included.

terminals and plug

The DC output terminals wire to the battery bank. The AC in cord plugs into a 120V 3-wire grounded source.

Review from a similar Inteli-Power in RV Converters

Works as advertised. I can charge two 100 AH LiFePo-4 batteries with no trouble at all. Just make sure you use decent gauge wire because this charger is a beast! Smaller gauged wire will heat up due to the amount of current this thing delivers. It does constant current charging and then switches to constant voltage to top off the battery. Well worth the money!

Worked perfect with my four 100 AH Lithium batteries.... Stock Winnebago charger was a weak 30 amps @ 13.2 V.....this baby delivers 80 amps @ 14.4 V. which reduces generator runtime on cloudy days when the roof solar is not producing. Had to change the 15 amp RV panel breaker to 20 amps...no big deal...I'm happy with this purchase.

Install instructions were easy to follow. Worked perfectly for my airstream renovation. Small size and ability to mount sideways allowed me to put under my front bench seat and not take up valuable closet space.

Review from a similar Inteli-Power in RV Converters

This power center was easy to install and seems to be working well. However, the wiring diagram on the back of it is small and difficult to read. Maybe I am missing it, but there does not seem to be a buss to connect negative 12v wires to. I think I will have to purchase one separately and install it behind the cabinet the power center is attached to.

Review from a similar Inteli-Power in RV Converters

Cooked my OEM converter on my new 5er due to home electrical install polarity error. Fixed the pedestal but converter is done. Researched replacement models and chose the PD9260C due to good reviews, the 3 prong corded plug (I'm not ready for direct panel wiring yet) and the ability to upgrade to AGM batteries. Received in 3 days. Pros: Very easy to install - basically a drop in replacement. No issues, only extras needed was an 8 ga copper ground jumper wire and oversized wire nut. Started up immediately, battery showing 13.49VDC consistently. Cons: 1) Not packed very well, minimal amount of crumpled paper as padding, no internal packaging box. Shipped by USPS. I have chronic issues with USPS and packages as they refuse to leave at door and (literally) drop them on the ground in front of my mailbox. I was waiting for a quick delivery and got to it right away but a bottom attachment flange was dented - fixed with my Leatherman. I hate USPS. 2) Unit shipped bare - no internal box, no papers included with unit. Is it truly new? Returned and refurbished? Who knows. 3) The link to the installation manual on the product page (not that you need one) has consistently returned a 404 error - you'd think they'd monitor broken links better.

Thank you for your review and I apologize about the annoying details in your order. Customer Service will be reaching out about the dented flange. As for the instruction link, sometimes the manufacturer changes something on their website without letting us know and the link becomes broken. It is showing up now: https:www.progressivedyn.comwp-contentuploads201705109821F-english.pdf

Review from a similar Inteli-Power in RV Converters

So far so good! I build my own power center modeled after the ones in RV for our enclosed trailer. Its been working great. I bought fuses at the auto parts store, and bought circuit breakers at home depot no problem. I did contact progressive dynamics because it seems that there are places you can buy these cheap but the serial number is not recognized by progressive dynamics meaning you have no warranty and probably cant return it to those places. But since etrailer was not listed on progressive dynamics website as a retailer, I contacted them, gave them my serial number, and they confirmed that etrialer is a preferred dealer, and my serial number is legit.... I contacted progressive dynamics also during installation, and they were very helpful. I was concerned the the wire coming out of the unit that hooks up to your 12 v batteries was 12AWG. I though that seemed too light a gauge, and should be at least 10AWG maybe 8AWG. Progressive dynamics, technical guy said that they have a special high temp insulation on those wires and they can indeed handle 40 AMPS. He recommended (which looks odd installed) but I ran 8AWG from my battery, and spliced it to the 12AWG wire on progressive dynamics unit. No Complaints so far, its been running great and charging the batteries. No regrets.

Review from a similar Inteli-Power in RV Converters

I had my son-in-law who is an electrician install the converter. The converter is working good and the battery charge was really good. I believe that the water pump pressure was the best I had in a long time which indicates how well the battery is charged. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I think that a better manual could of come with the converter. When I connected the battery there was a green flashing light that I didn't know what it meant but after an internet search I found out what it meant. E-trailer was great to deal with, fast service and answered my questions quickly,

Review from a similar Inteli-Power in RV Converters

The service from eTrailer was excellent as always and customer support was very good. I was replacing my brand new WFCO WF-8735 unit because it was not a smart charger - I could not get it to charge my batteries at full speed. The PD4135 is a direct replacement for it and provides better options for charging manually and also has a switch that converts charging for a Li battery. Although the product installed easily, there were a few glitches. One, etrailer did not send a manual with the product, so I had to get it online. Even then, the manual left a lot to be desired. It didn't describe the installation well nor the operation. The PD unit is a bit smaller than the WFCO and therefore the PD cover just barely covered the old screw holes. Also, the WFCO has 7 fuses but are not identical to PD's 7. The PD has 5 branch circuits like the WFCO except it has one extra circuit that can handle up to 30A - that's the second red wire (labeled 002) and the 6th fuse. The 7th fuse is red on both units and is for reverse protection. The 6th fuse on the WFCO is to doubly protect all of the branch circuits and has a metal 30A fuse - that's not in the design of the PD. Operationally, the PD works fine. The switch to convert to Li batteries is TINY and prone to breaking off (my first unit had the the switch in the bottom of the box!) You'll have to scour the PD website to find a picture of the switch since it is not included in the manual. Also, not included anywhere is the need to remove a 4 wire harness when using Li batteries. Also hard to find but on the website is the operation of the push button for manually exiting the Wizard mode and the meaning of the flashing light. Other than those minor issues, the unit is great.

Working my way to more battery capability. To that end, purchasing this lithium converter enhanced my total recovery time when recharging my battleborn batteries. Etrailer is awesome with all the details and support! Importantly, this converter was the newest version… no offloading old equipment with etrailer… just the best and most up-to-date from this company!

Review from a similar Inteli-Power in RV Converters

Installed this to replace the POS converter that came with the camper. The original converter killed two batteries before I figure out it was the problem. This one seems to be much better - no issues with the battery. The old one the voltage/amps varied as the battery was depleted, then it would kick in, supercharge the battery and kill it. The voltage is very stable with this one - lights don't dim then brighten suddenly.

This product was recommended by the lifepo4 battery manufacturer to fully charge the 3 batteries I purchased. Installation was pretty simple. Did not have to run larger wiring which was thankful. Simply swap out old converter charger with new one and ready to use. I would highly recommend this product.

I have had no problems whatsoever. Boondocked for 9 days in Grand Teton National Park last September. Used my generator to freshen up Battle Born lithium batteries and converter charger worked perfectly.

Review from a similar Inteli-Power in RV Converters

The Progressive Dynamic 80 amp lithium charger is a great product. Charges the lithium batteries very fast. Its a simple well built charger converter. I've used it for about 8 months now. I used to own a 40 amp Progressive Dynamic regular battery charger converter on my previous rv. It worked great for the 12 or so years I owned it.

  • Which Progressive Dynamics Converter for RV with 3 AGM Batteries?
The fan on your Progressive Dynamics # PD9260C running more often than usual could mean a couple of things are going on here; and you're correct in thinking that most of them aren't a good sign. It sounds like you've cleaned out the vents on the converter as well as changed the fuses, but one of the telltale signs that your converter is going out is that it's overcharging your battery. I recommend checking the voltage on your batteries; they should be around 13.5v if the converter is still...

  • When is Desulfation Mode Active With PD9280A Converter
The Converter Status Remote Pendant # PD92201 that works with the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter # PD9280A does indeed only allow you to cycle through three modes, however, one of those is the Storage Mode, and the desulfation is only active when the Charge Wizard from the converter is in Storage Mode. The desulfation mode is an automatic occurrence so you can't toggle it on and off with the pendant; it will automatically increase the voltage for 15 minutes every 21 hours,...

So you don't have to do anything at all, because it will eventually do go to the correct mode after a period of time and reading the RV battery voltage.
