converter charger

This converter charger converts AC shore power into DC power and charges your battery bank. The converter uses a high voltage output to provide the proper charging profile for lithium batteries. If your RV already has a stock converter charger, it will need to be removed to ensure this unit operates properly.

Designed for Lithium Batteries

Built for lithium batteries, this unit uses a higher output voltage than a typical converter charger, which provides a fast, complete charge. The charger also extends battery life since it utilizes the appropriate charging profile. Additionally, it's compatible with your battery's internal Battery Management System (BMS), which helps manage charging by monitoring the battery state and balancing cell voltage.

Parallel and Series Capability

If your battery bank requires a higher amperage or voltage to charge properly, you can connect identical converter chargers together to accommodate your setup. With parallel wiring, you can increase the charging current which is useful for high-capacity battery banks. Conversely, you can wire them in series, which increases the voltage so you can charge 24V, 36V, or 48V systems.

Safety Features

cooling fan

The system includes a number of safety features. It has a reverse polarity protection that will protect the converter if the battery is hooked up incorrectly. It has short circuit protection as well, which limits the current and reduces the output until the short has been fixed. Additionally, the converter will shut down if there is excessive voltage. The built-in cooling fan also removes excess heat from the unit and only operates during high loads.

How It Installs

The converter mounts horizontally inside your RV in a dry location with ventilation. However, as long as the unit has sufficient ventilation, it can also be mounted vertically. The mounting hardware is not included.

terminals and plug

The DC output terminals wire to the battery bank. The AC in cord plugs into a 120V 3-wire grounded outlet.

Installed! It works as stated. It seems quiet which is good. So far so good. I have seen this recommended and believe it is a good product. Nothing fancy, just a metal box and heatsink. No reason it should be anything but good. 644896

I'm a full timer and I live in my Arctic Fox fifth wheel off grid pretty much all of the time. Nearly all of my power is provided by my solar, but I purchased this converter to quickly charge my 300ah lithium battery when there's not enough sun. However, this has probably not happened 6 times in the last year. I kept my original converter and installed this converter within 3 feet of the battery. I ran overly large gauge welding cable from the converter to the battery. When needed I plug it into my generator, thus I only use this to charge my battery on cloudy days. I don't use it on shore power. Per battery monitor, the current to the battery is always very close to the 60amp rating (55-59 amps). It charges the lithium to a perfect 14.6 volts very quickly. I've no complaints about this device, though I've used it very little (~10 hours). I would buy this again in a heartbeat. The only improvement I can think of is... I would like to be able to configure it to stop charging a little earlier, because I think it would be a little less stress on the battery if it stopped at 14.4 volts verses 14.6. Everything I've read suggests that the lithium batteries last longer if treated gently (low and high ends). I have ample capacity and can afford to be gentle with it. A Lifeblue battery tech support guy agreed with me on this. But this is really nit picking! 729036

This product was recommended by the lifepo4 battery manufacturer to fully charge the 3 batteries I purchased. Installation was pretty simple. Did not have to run larger wiring which was thankful. Simply swap out old converter charger with new one and ready to use. I would highly recommend this product. 769525

Ask the Experts about this Progressive Dynamics RV Converters

  • Is a New Converter Needed When Switching To Lithium Ion Batteries
In order to effectively charge lithium ion batteries you will need a converter designed specially for this purpose as the standard lead acid converter you have now will not work well. For this, we have a few options which will be roughly based on the amp hour capacity of the battery bank. The Lion Energy Safari 1300 Battery is 12 volt with a 105 amp hour capacity. If you were only using only one then you would go with a 60 amp converter part # PD9160ALV but if you were using two (wired...

  • What Does Smart System Not Included With Progressive Dynamics Lithium Converter and Battery Charger
The smart system not included basically means the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Battery Charger part # PD9180ALV does not include the charging wizard for the Lithium batteries. The charging wizard was a charger that monitors the RV battery voltage and then selects one of three charging voltages and one of four operating modes to properly re-charge and maintain the RV battery. The lithium battery chargers PD9180ALV just give out a constant 14V charge according to Progessive....

The Progressive Dynamics PD9100 Series Inteli-Power Converter - Lithium - 12 Volts - 60 Amps # PD9160ALV will allow up to 60 amps power draw. It sounds like you are able to pull more, so I recommend upgrading to the 80 amp # PD9180ALV. This will charge your batteries in about 2 hours give or take. If you want to charge your battery while driving, I recommend the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger - Dual Input - DC to DC - 12V/24V - 40 Amp # 331-BCDC1240D along with the 60-Amp...

  • Recommended Converter and Charger for Single Lithium Battery on 5th Wheel Trailer
Yes. Because lithium batteries have a full charge voltage of 14.4 to 14.6 volts, your standard battery charger/converter system will not be able to fully charge a lithium battery so you will need to upgrade your system. The Progressive Dynamics # PD9160ALV is compatible with lithium batteries and will work well for your single 100ah lithium battery. The # PD9160ALV is a 60amp converter and since it turns off automatically to avoid over-charging, it will help prolong the life of your new...

  • Which Progressive Dynamics Converter to Replace 60 Amp Charger for Lithium Batteries
For charging a lithium battery like what you have a 60 amp charge is quite a bit of amperage. While a higher amp charge might charge the battery faster a slower charge at 60 amps will still be very fast and honestly a better amperage to put a healthier charge that will last longer. Quick charges don't tend to stick with the battery as long as slower ones. Since we don't know what gauge wire you have as well the 60 amp setup # PD9160ALV would be a much better option.

  • Why Does Progressive Dynamics Converter for Lithium Batteries Not Come With Smart System
The Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Battery Charger part # PD9160ALV as you mentioned does not come with the smart system aka Charge Wizard. The smart system is for non-lithium batteries and is essentially a system that adjusts voltage based on an input obtained from the battery bank. Therefore, the voltage varies based on parameters which is why it cannot be used on lithium batteries as these require a constant a constant 14 volts. In summary, the smart system is...

  • RV Power Converter and Battery Charger for 10 Lithium 105A Batteries on 2019 Forest River Riverstone
Since your combined battery bank comes out to 1,050 amp hours, it requires a higher amperage to properly charge your ten Lion Energy 1300 lithium batteries. Therefore, your best bet is to connect two of the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Battery Chargers # PD9160ALV together to accommodate your setup. The Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Battery Charger - Lithium - 12V - 60 Amps # PD9160ALV will run off your Dodge Ram based on the information you provided. This is an interesting combination because you are using a power inverter in the Ram and then a power converter for the trailer to return to DC power. If this is your only connection, you may instead want to use a DC to DC charger instead like # 331-BCDC1240D.
