The aluminum construction keeps things lightweight yet sturdy for all kinds of cargo. Each bar measures 44-1/2" long x 3-1/8" wide x 1" tall and supports up to 165 lbs when used within your vehicle’s roof load limits. It’s built for heavy-duty hauling without flexing or wobbling under pressure.
You can add Thule One-Key System locks (sold separately) to deter theft of the rack and any channel-mount accessories. It’s an easy upgrade that keeps your gear secure when parked overnight or away from sight.

I agree with you that the rack should include the keys however Thule only offers the one lock system separately as part # TH450400 for a 4 pack. They do it this way so that if you have other Thule accessories like a Thule kayak or bike carrier then you can have the option of ordering enough keys to swap them all out to key them the same. For example you can also buy a six part part # TH450600 or an eight pack like part # TH450800.
