  I checked with the manufacturer for you, and they say that the Solera Awnings are slower when they retract. If you are sure there are 12 volts by testing with a multimeter the next thing to do is ensure the pitch arms aren't bent at all, which can cause issues. After that, they said to take a look at the ground wire before the switch, and make sure that has a good connection.   There should be no issue wiring a separate switch on the outside of your trailer. However, there won't be a way to do this without hardwiring the # LC285500 into your current switch.   Everything I could find on the switch for a Dometic 9100 Power Awning is that the correct switch is the 3310455.062. While we do not carry that exact switch, it is a 4 wire design. This means you can use the Replacement Switch Kit # LC285500.   I spoke with Lippert, and they informed me that yes you can convert your 18V awning to 12V buy using a 2-way power feed wiring harness (found in # LCV000334969-362243) to go from the awning arm to your coach, and then from here you will need to hard wire to your power source. Also, since you mentioned that you wanted to use a switch, you can use either: -Solera Power Awning Switch Kit # LC285500 for black, Or, -Solera Power Awning Switch Kit # LC285499 for white.

You can easily test if it's the switch by unhooking it with the awning all the way closed and seeing if it still slowly opens.
