Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and today we're taking a look at the replacement safety cable for the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator. So this is going to be that cable that connects between the safety breakaway switch on your actuator. The other side is going to connect to your towing vehicle so that in the event of an accidental disconnect and as your towing vehicle pulls away, it's going to pull this cable, activating the brakes on your actuator and bring your trailer to an eventual stop. That's going to keep it from just careening off the highway and causing a lot of damage. Definitely an important component.
They've updated this a little bit, so now it has a coating going over that wire to prevent any rust or corrosion. It should last for a lot longer, has a little bit of protection there and it's also going to be abrasion resistant so you're not going to have this cutting into any other components on your towing setup. That has a little heat shrink connector there as well.It goes all the way up to the eye hook or the split loop on our S hook and all the way to the other side. Should be everything we need to replace that cable. Includes the bolt N lock nut to attach it to that switch on our actuator and also the spring safety hook on the other side.
This attaches to your towing vehicle. That attaches to your actuator. It does measure 28 inches long, overall. Put a measurement on that just to verify, 28 inches and that's going from the end of that cable to the end of the hook. Should be enough length to get in between the two.
That's pretty much going to do it for our look at the replacement safety cable for your Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator.
Exact replacement part for the safety cable on my brake system. My old one was getting rusty. Now I think I'll spray this one with WD40 when I spray the trailer jack after dipping it into salt water at low tide.
This was a direct replacement for the original part from my trailer which recently broke. It was simple to replace and should last for many years to come.
