The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 platform-style rack lets you transport 2 bikes of almost any size, shape, or frame style on the back of your vehicle. Ratcheting wheel hooks and pivoting wheel cradles hold your bikes with no frame contact. The aluminum rack tilts with bikes loaded for cargo area access and folds up for storage. It installs without tools using the hand-tightening cam system, and it includes locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.
The rack has ratcheting hooks that grab your bikes firmly by the front wheels - not the frames. These hooks allow you to rapidly load and unload your bikes. Each hook adjusts in 2-mm increments to ensure a snug fit over your wheel, and it releases with the push of a button.
The wheel hooks are mounted on arms that pivot nearly 180 degrees from left to right. This makes it easier to load when compared with a rack that has the hooks mounted on a central post. To load simply set your bike in the wheel cradles, rotate the arms up over the wheels, and press the hooks down over the wheels until snug.
The large, folding front-wheel cradles accommodate most bike wheels. The hinged cradles flip up to hold your wheels in place and fold down so they're out of the way when the rack is folded up against your vehicle. There is a hook-and-loop strap on each cradle that wraps around the tray and through the spokes of your wheel to hold the wheel in place. You can also use the straps to secure the cradles flat so they don't flop around when the rack is in the stored position.
The pivoting rear-wheel cradles self-adjust to accommodate your bike's wheelbase. Set your bike's rear wheel into the cradle and it will automatically adjust to grip your wheel at the optimal angle. Use the ratcheting strap to secure your wheel to the cradle.
There is a front-mounted foot lever in the base of the rack that lets a single person easily tilt and fold the rack.
The rack tilts down - with or without bikes loaded - so you can access your vehicle's rear cargo area.
You can also fold the rack up when you're not transporting bikes. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.
The knob at the front of the shank lets you quickly and easily install the rack. Just slide the shank into your hitch and turn the knob until snug. The knob deploys an anti-rattle wedge inside the shank to help take play out of the hitch connection. The locking hitch pin has an Allen tool on the end that further tightens the hand knob if you are still experiencing rattle after hand-tightening.
The Sherpa 2.0 includes locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle. The 1/4" thick cable threads around your bike frames, passes through the cable's looped latch tip, and inserts into the lock on the outside bike tray. Coil up the cable and store it in your vehicle or bike bag when it's not in use.
To lock the rack to your hitch, simply insert the hitch pin and connect the lock to the end of the pin. The locks are keyed alike so you can use the same keys for both locks.

It all began with a pleasant experience contacting Etrailer to confirm that the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 would work with my Class 1 1-1/4" hitch on my 2011 Honda CRV. Roger answered my questions and assisted me with placing my order. I ordered on a Monday and I received it on Thursday in California! It did take me about 2 hours to assemble because I initially tried to follow the written instructions that were in the box. I remembered that several reviewers said that they recommend that you follow the You Tube videos for the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 assembly instructions. Once I followed the videos the assembly was a snap! The bike rack is very sturdy despite weighing in at 35 lbs. I am a 60 year old relatively athletic female and have no problem attaching the bike rack to my hitch! Here's hoping the bike rack holds up for years to come! 909740
Fabulous bike rack, almost too pretty to use!!! The pearl white goes great with our new pearl white Crosstrek, very cool!!! Took me about 15 minutes to assemble and hook it up to the car. Very well engineered and extremely stable. As you can tell, I love this bike rack. Far superior to other racks on the market. 908051
I love this bike rack. It is very attractive and functional. I get complements all the time with it being white and how easy it is to use. Thank you etrailer! I highly recommend this bicycle rack for 2 bikes. It’s with the extra $! 808319
I love my bike rack. I have been pleased with the way it functions. The only complaint I have is that it sits loosely in the hitch and rocks a lot when I'm driving. I wouldn't really give a 5, but a 4 is unfair. I would say a 4.5 805199
It came dissembled and I’m not great with instructions manuals... when I got stuck I [watched] a video on installation of the rack and this made it much better. I love the rack and it was delivered next day! The company is close to home, which I did not even realize, and it felt good to support a local business in the middle of pandemic (and always). 775618
Easy to use. Holds bikes very securely. Works so good I bought another one. 609763
Best bike rack ever! I hesitated making this purchase because of the cost, but after having and using a Kuat rack, I will never go back. It is the highest quality and a pleasure to use. Also, Kuat customer service is great! etrailer.com had the best price and super fast shipping. I ordered it on a Sunday and received it two days later. Very impressed! 496293
A bike rack such as the Kuat Sherpa isn't really intended for bikes with fenders, as the rack really cannot hold the bike tightly enough unless the ratchet hook is attached directly to the tire right in front of the hook.
--Very nice rack. I looked far and wide and finally settled on this one. I wanted a light weight rack that I could easily remove when not in use. I also wanted something that had a lock and a professional paint job and could handle two bikes and would not block my rear window view. I had to loosen two of the large factory tightened bolts to get everything to line up during assembly but no big deal in the end. Mounted on a Mazda CX-5. Seems to hold bikes securely. It works great. 438566

Your website was so helpful I knew exactly what I was getting. No surprises. The Kuat product is definitely very high quality so I look for many years of use. My favorite features are the light weigh (32#), anti wobble adjustment, and the striking finish. I may leave it on my SUV just for looks! 723338

I feel I did my homework looking at all platform style towing hitch bike racks. I need one for two bikes and wanted something lighter in weight than the ones my friends use. The Thule and Yakima are rated well though weigh 50 pounds or more. Etrailer's site provided the best collection of racks and the ability to compare. The were also very receptive to questions and were honest when they were not sure if a rack would fit a specific vehicle. Their prices are competitive and likely the lowest. We have a 2015 X5. I have an Invisa-Hitch on the back. The new Sherpa 2 was exactly what I was looking for, though wanted to be sure it would work for this style hitch and on my vehicle. The rack arrived a few days after it was ordered. The assembly was a piece of cake and all parts and tools were provided. The hitch fit perfectly on the back of the X5. We have only transported road bikes to date, though will have haul hybrids and mountains in a week or two. The 30 pound weight makes it easy to install and easy to store on the wall in our garage. I'd recommend the Sherpa 2 to anyone who wants a lighter weight, though very sturdy bike rack that looks good on the back of your SUV. Etrailer has provided me great service. 277843

I had been interested in a Kuat rack for some time based on reputation, light weight, ease of use and that it just looks good. It realized it would not work on my JK wrangler with an over sized spare tire so I needed to also use the Kuat Hi Lo extension. First off when this rack was place in my etrailer.com cart the price dropped to an amount I had not seen anywhere!!! More than offset the extension and the sales tax - Sweet! The rack came quickly on the day it was stated and with free shipping, Usually large items get beat up in transit but this was packaged very well. TIP!!! Don't pull everything out of the box like I did. The way it is packaged is designed to make assembly easy - very cool! I had to put things back into to do what they recommended and it worked great. (Needed a torque wrench for the installation) For my application using the Kuat Hi Lo I needed 2 locking pins other wise the rack and bikes were not a secure as I would like them to be. Since the Kuat Hi Lo extension did not come with a lock I used the rack pin lock on the Hi Lo and bought another after market lock to use on the rack itself. It is incredible easy to use and even looks good on the Jeep. 664164

Took my time to pick out just the right platform rack. Absolutely hate to have to buy things twice. etrailer was just the place to do the research and eventually place the order. Can't find a better website with more objective information. That said, we are loving this choice. The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 is exactly the right fit for the truck (F150 4X4) and how we plan to use this unit to camp and bike. One of the critical features for us was that the platform rack, minus bikes, had to fit under the tailgate when gate was dropped fully down. Many, many of the otherwise very nice platform racks will not meet this requirement. Many of these will scrape your paint and dent your tailgate. With respect to the Kuat Sherpa, there is a full 2" clearance with the gate fully dropped, so no sweat there. Next, the unit had to be lightweight and with an easy on and off system. Heavy racks that require a ratchet to complete the install simply were not going to work for us. The Kuat is made out of tough tube aluminum, with a nice powder coat finish and weighs just over 30lbs, plus there are no tools required to install and secure it to the hitch. The rack locks in place with a simple hand-tightening cam system using a single, easy to get to, well-designed knob. Finally, carbon frame maybe in your future? Okay, again the Kuat fits the bill. This is a "no frame" contact, extremely easy bike load design. No exaggeration, the rack goes from garage to truck hitch, bikes loaded/secured, and then we're backing out of the drive in under 15 minutes. Did I mention how lightweight it is? Love the fact that I am thinking about the bike ride and not worrying about how I am getting the bikes there. 423863

Car: 2017 Honda CR-V This is a great rack! There's not a lot to the assembly, other than getting the first two long bolts in, those were tricky. Once those were in there, aligned properly, the rest of the assembly was pretty easy. Attaching the rack to the hitch receiver was the easiest part of the whole thing! The rack is really nicely portable, and will easily store in our apartment during the off season. It takes less than a minute to get it loaded into the hitch receiver. The cable lock is a little bit flimsy, but should hopefully deter casual thievery. What I would have loved to have seen were locks in the retaining arms as well, so those couldn't be messed with by strangers. Otherwise, this rack is really great, and I would highly recommend it. 433069

Installed this on my 2018 Nissan Leaf. Excellent product and extremely light weight. Makes loading and loading the bikes super easy, I can even get into the hatch with both bike loaded by tilting the rack down. Wish I would have had this years ago! 544742

Light weight, very easy to use and very stable. It's my first tray type carrier and will get rid of my old hanging carrier now. Easier to assemble than some say. (insert the 4" bolt BEFORE torqueing the two long bolts) Now for the bad. On second use, the tumbler pulled out of the cable lock. Will call them today. Overall, though, a very good rack. 634080

My Kuat Sherpa 2.0 arrived early and was exactly as expected. Very light and easy to install. This is a picture of it mounted on a Curt 11130 hitch on a 2009 Mini Cooper S convertible. Sits a little high, but functional and stable. 494978

I'm very pleased with the Kuat Sherpa 2.0. Fast delivery, and straightforward assembly. Some reviews noted having trouble inserting the bolt in step 5, but the assembly video from Kuat shows that pivoting the rack a bit makes it trivial (Search for "Sherpa 2.0 - Assembly" on YouTube). It is very well constructed and solid on the hitch. The back up camera on my 2017 VW Tiguan SEL is obscured a bit, but still usable. Even with the wide bars on my mountain bike there is plenty of clearance between the bikes, and to the back of the car, including tilting it down to open the hatch. It fits the 3" tires on my 6Fattie perfectly. The cable lock is long enough to secure both front wheels and frames of my bikes. I also use the cable to secure the rack in my garage to deter casual thieves. Highly recommended. 499477

I have been in search of a really good hitch mounted bike rack for some time. I did a lot of research and settled on the Kuat Sherpa 2.0. But before I ordered it, I called etrailer.com. I spoke with Lori B. who answered all my questions about this rack and made my shopping experience quick and informative. This rack is so well constructed and beautifully finished, rugged and very easy to use. On our first trip out, my 12 year old son was able to quickly and easily remove his bike with no help. The rack tilts down with little effort making access to the back of our station wagon a breeze. I would recommend this rack to anyone looking for a well built easy to use 2 bike rack. My neighbor told me about etrailer.com and it was great advice. I will be ordering from etrailer.com again. Their service and selection are amazing and they actually have people answering the phone who know their products. 726336

Comments here are about the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 (2 inch hitch) mounted on a 2019 VW Tiguan SE fitted with a Drawtite 76192 trailer hitch (also purchased from etrailer). Positives: This is a great bike rack! It's super light, easy to use, very well built, and it works just as it should. Negatives: Security is weak, just as with most other racks. (But security is easily improved.) Details: etrailer delivered the rack with lightning speed, of course. (Thanks!) Assembly was a breeze, and learning to mount and secure bikes was equally simple. The hitch cam works much better than I had expected --- no need for a wrench to get a steady-riding rack. And with two bikes mounted, there's no sway, no wobble, no noise, no worries. A great rack, really. One concern (pre-purchase) was about ground clearance. Photo #1 shows 2 bikes mounted. The vertical distance from the ground to the bottom of the rack is exactly 12 inches. That's more than adequate for negotiating my driveway, as well as all for the roads I've travelled so far. Another concern (pre-purchase) was about interference with the backup camera, mainly when the rack is folded up. Photo #2 shows the hitch in that position. The camera is located near the center of that yellow rectangle, so there's some clearance both above and below the outer (upper) tray. Photo #3 shows the Tiguan's camera display as I back into a parking space. So, yes, there is some interference but it's really not bad at all. If you're adept at using your backup camera, the folded up Sherpa 2.0 won't cause major difficulties. Negatives about the Sherpa 2.0 have to do with security. I've got little confidence in the Kuat hitch pin lock, and the cable for locking bikes to the rack is, per the cliche, best at keeping honest people honest. But, a lot of shopping around uncovered few (if any) competing racks that are much better about security. Therefore: Choose your rack based on other criteria, and plan to spend extra money to deal with security. Given that view, the Sherpa 2.0 is an easy winner. 5 stars! On security: I leave a bike rack on my car for 9 months of the year; hence my concern about the backup camera. Photo #4 shows a closeup of the Sherpa 2.0 on my Tiguan. That's a Big Brand high security chain looped around the inner (lower) tray. The padlock passes over the Kuat hitch pin lock (protecting it a little) and then passes through the chain ring of the Drawtite hitch. It will take some effort to steal my Sherpa 2.0. The chain is 100 cm long --- just enough that the rack can fold down to carry bikes. But it's too short to allow the rack to tilt downward fully, so tailgate access is impacted. Photo #5 shows the situation with two trail bikes mounted. That's actually more than enough room to get at the cargo area, and with road bikes mounted the tailgate opens fully. So it's a very minor problem; a slightly longer chain would avoid it but look sloppy most of the time. Typically, I don't need to lock the bikes to the rack, but for those times when I do, I've got two more Big Brand chains each 160 cm long. Each chain can lock one bike's frame and the other bike's front wheel to the chain that protects the rack. This is not ideal, I know. But it's a big improvement over the security of any well-known rack. And the cost of those three chains is tiny compared to replacing a Sherpa 2.0 plus two bikes. 778374
