Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 platform-style rack lets you transport 2 bikes of almost any size, shape, or frame style on the back of your vehicle. Ratcheting wheel hooks and pivoting wheel cradles hold your bikes with no frame contact. The aluminum rack tilts with bikes loaded for cargo area access and folds up for storage. It installs without tools using the hand-tightening cam system, and it includes locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

Adjustable Arms with Ratcheting Wheel Hooks

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

The rack has ratcheting hooks that grab your bikes firmly by the front wheels - not the frames. These hooks allow you to rapidly load and unload your bikes. Each hook adjusts in 2-mm increments to ensure a snug fit over your wheel, and it releases with the push of a button.

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

The wheel hooks are mounted on arms that pivot nearly 180 degrees from left to right. This makes it easier to load when compared with a rack that has the hooks mounted on a central post. To load simply set your bike in the wheel cradles, rotate the arms up over the wheels, and press the hooks down over the wheels until snug.

Folding Front-Wheel Cradles

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

The large, folding front-wheel cradles accommodate most bike wheels. The hinged cradles flip up to hold your wheels in place and fold down so they're out of the way when the rack is folded up against your vehicle. There is a hook-and-loop strap on each cradle that wraps around the tray and through the spokes of your wheel to hold the wheel in place. You can also use the straps to secure the cradles flat so they don't flop around when the rack is in the stored position.

Pivoting Rear-Wheel Cradles with Ratcheting Straps

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

The pivoting rear-wheel cradles self-adjust to accommodate your bike's wheelbase. Set your bike's rear wheel into the cradle and it will automatically adjust to grip your wheel at the optimal angle. Use the ratcheting strap to secure your wheel to the cradle.

Folding and Tilting Design

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

There is a front-mounted foot lever in the base of the rack that lets a single person easily tilt and fold the rack.

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

The rack tilts down - with or without bikes loaded - so you can access your vehicle's rear cargo area.

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

You can also fold the rack up when you're not transporting bikes. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.

Tool-Free Installation With Anti-Rattle Device

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

The knob at the front of the shank lets you quickly and easily install the rack. Just slide the shank into your hitch and turn the knob until snug. The knob deploys an anti-rattle wedge inside the shank to help take play out of the hitch connection. The locking hitch pin has an Allen tool on the end that further tightens the hand knob if you are still experiencing rattle after hand-tightening.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

The Sherpa 2.0 includes locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle. The 1/4" thick cable threads around your bike frames, passes through the cable's looped latch tip, and inserts into the lock on the outside bike tray. Coil up the cable and store it in your vehicle or bike bag when it's not in use.

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 front wheel cradles

To lock the rack to your hitch, simply insert the hitch pin and connect the lock to the end of the pin. The locks are keyed alike so you can use the same keys for both locks.

I love this bike rack. It is very attractive and functional. I get complements all the time with it being white and how easy it is to use. Thank you etrailer! I highly recommend this bicycle rack for 2 bikes. It’s with the extra $! 808319

I love my bike rack. I have been pleased with the way it functions. The only complaint I have is that it sits loosely in the hitch and rocks a lot when I'm driving. I wouldn't really give a 5, but a 4 is unfair. I would say a 4.5 805199

It came dissembled and I’m not great with instructions manuals... when I got stuck I [watched] a video on installation of the rack and this made it much better. I love the rack and it was delivered next day! The company is close to home, which I did not even realize, and it felt good to support a local business in the middle of pandemic (and always). 775618

Best bike rack ever! I hesitated making this purchase because of the cost, but after having and using a Kuat rack, I will never go back. It is the highest quality and a pleasure to use. Also, Kuat customer service is great! etrailer.com had the best price and super fast shipping. I ordered it on a Sunday and received it two days later. Very impressed! 496293

Comments
Still love this bike rack after one year however, a note of caution is warranted. Kuat advises to place the front tire holder as close to the fork as possible. I placed a very expensive bike with fenders on the rack and put the front tire holder just in front of fender because I didn’t want to bend the fender against the tire. As I was going down the road the bike rocked and the front of bike fell off. The bike was damaged as it was dragged along the pavement for several feet. Just remember to put the front holder as close to the fork as possible and you will love this rack.

A bike rack such as the Kuat Sherpa isn't really intended for bikes with fenders, as the rack really cannot hold the bike tightly enough unless the ratchet hook is attached directly to the tire right in front of the hook.

Very nice rack. I looked far and wide and finally settled on this one. I wanted a light weight rack that I could easily remove when not in use. I also wanted something that had a lock and a professional paint job and could handle two bikes and would not block my rear window view. I had to loosen two of the large factory tightened bolts to get everything to line up during assembly but no big deal in the end. Mounted on a Mazda CX-5. Seems to hold bikes securely. It works great. 438566

Your website was so helpful I knew exactly what I was getting. No surprises. The Kuat product is definitely very high quality so I look for many years of use. My favorite features are the light weigh (32#), anti wobble adjustment, and the striking finish. I may leave it on my SUV just for looks! 723338

Review from a similar Sherpa 2.0 in Hitch Bike Racks

Light weight, very easy to use and very stable. It's my first tray type carrier and will get rid of my old hanging carrier now. Easier to assemble than some say. (insert the 4" bolt BEFORE torqueing the two long bolts) Now for the bad. On second use, the tumbler pulled out of the cable lock. Will call them today. Overall, though, a very good rack. 634080

Kuat offered to send a complete tray due to the lock problem. I just had them send a lock and the special tool to replace it. It came within a week. Still love this rack. It is very rigid and very quick to load.

Review from a similar Sherpa 2.0 in Hitch Bike Racks

I had been interested in a Kuat rack for some time based on reputation, light weight, ease of use and that it just looks good. It realized it would not work on my JK wrangler with an over sized spare tire so I needed to also use the Kuat Hi Lo extension. First off when this rack was place in my etrailer.com cart the price dropped to an amount I had not seen anywhere!!! More than offset the extension and the sales tax - Sweet! The rack came quickly on the day it was stated and with free shipping, Usually large items get beat up in transit but this was packaged very well. TIP!!! Don't pull everything out of the box like I did. The way it is packaged is designed to make assembly easy - very cool! I had to put things back into to do what they recommended and it worked great. (Needed a torque wrench for the installation) For my application using the Kuat Hi Lo I needed 2 locking pins other wise the rack and bikes were not a secure as I would like them to be. Since the Kuat Hi Lo extension did not come with a lock I used the rack pin lock on the Hi Lo and bought another after market lock to use on the rack itself. It is incredible easy to use and even looks good on the Jeep. 664164

Review from a similar Sherpa 2.0 in Hitch Bike Racks

Car: 2017 Honda CR-V This is a great rack! There's not a lot to the assembly, other than getting the first two long bolts in, those were tricky. Once those were in there, aligned properly, the rest of the assembly was pretty easy. Attaching the rack to the hitch receiver was the easiest part of the whole thing! The rack is really nicely portable, and will easily store in our apartment during the off season. It takes less than a minute to get it loaded into the hitch receiver. The cable lock is a little bit flimsy, but should hopefully deter casual thievery. What I would have loved to have seen were locks in the retaining arms as well, so those couldn't be messed with by strangers. Otherwise, this rack is really great, and I would highly recommend it. 433069

The rack is still working great! We had a Saris bones previously, and this rack is so much easier to load the bikes on, and weve never had any issues, even whenb weve hauled our bikes up to Canada. Thanks for checking in, you guys are great, Ive recommended you to anyone looking to buy any kind of bike rack.

Installed this on my 2018 Nissan Leaf. Excellent product and extremely light weight. Makes loading and loading the bikes super easy, I can even get into the hatch with both bike loaded by tilting the rack down. Wish I would have had this years ago! 544742

Review from a similar Sherpa 2.0 in Hitch Bike Racks

I have been in search of a really good hitch mounted bike rack for some time. I did a lot of research and settled on the Kuat Sherpa 2.0. But before I ordered it, I called etrailer.com. I spoke with Lori B. who answered all my questions about this rack and made my shopping experience quick and informative. This rack is so well constructed and beautifully finished, rugged and very easy to use. On our first trip out, my 12 year old son was able to quickly and easily remove his bike with no help. The rack tilts down with little effort making access to the back of our station wagon a breeze. I would recommend this rack to anyone looking for a well built easy to use 2 bike rack. My neighbor told me about etrailer.com and it was great advice. I will be ordering from etrailer.com again. Their service and selection are amazing and they actually have people answering the phone who know their products. 726336

Review from a similar Sherpa 2.0 in Hitch Bike Racks

I feel I did my homework looking at all platform style towing hitch bike racks. I need one for two bikes and wanted something lighter in weight than the ones my friends use. The Thule and Yakima are rated well though weigh 50 pounds or more. Etrailer's site provided the best collection of racks and the ability to compare. The were also very receptive to questions and were honest when they were not sure if a rack would fit a specific vehicle. Their prices are competitive and likely the lowest. We have a 2015 X5. I have an Invisa-Hitch on the back. The new Sherpa 2 was exactly what I was looking for, though wanted to be sure it would work for this style hitch and on my vehicle. The rack arrived a few days after it was ordered. The assembly was a piece of cake and all parts and tools were provided. The hitch fit perfectly on the back of the X5. We have only transported road bikes to date, though will have haul hybrids and mountains in a week or two. The 30 pound weight makes it easy to install and easy to store on the wall in our garage. I'd recommend the Sherpa 2 to anyone who wants a lighter weight, though very sturdy bike rack that looks good on the back of your SUV. Etrailer has provided me great service. 277843

Review from a similar Sherpa 2.0 in Hitch Bike Racks

I'm very pleased with the Kuat Sherpa 2.0. Fast delivery, and straightforward assembly. Some reviews noted having trouble inserting the bolt in step 5, but the assembly video from Kuat shows that pivoting the rack a bit makes it trivial (Search for "Sherpa 2.0 - Assembly" on YouTube). It is very well constructed and solid on the hitch. The back up camera on my 2017 VW Tiguan SEL is obscured a bit, but still usable. Even with the wide bars on my mountain bike there is plenty of clearance between the bikes, and to the back of the car, including tilting it down to open the hatch. It fits the 3" tires on my 6Fattie perfectly. The cable lock is long enough to secure both front wheels and frames of my bikes. I also use the cable to secure the rack in my garage to deter casual thieves. Highly recommended. 499477

Review from a similar Sherpa 2.0 in Hitch Bike Racks

Took my time to pick out just the right platform rack. Absolutely hate to have to buy things twice. etrailer was just the place to do the research and eventually place the order. Can't find a better website with more objective information. That said, we are loving this choice. The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 is exactly the right fit for the truck (F150 4X4) and how we plan to use this unit to camp and bike. One of the critical features for us was that the platform rack, minus bikes, had to fit under the tailgate when gate was dropped fully down. Many, many of the otherwise very nice platform racks will not meet this requirement. Many of these will scrape your paint and dent your tailgate. With respect to the Kuat Sherpa, there is a full 2" clearance with the gate fully dropped, so no sweat there. Next, the unit had to be lightweight and with an easy on and off system. Heavy racks that require a ratchet to complete the install simply were not going to work for us. The Kuat is made out of tough tube aluminum, with a nice powder coat finish and weighs just over 30lbs, plus there are no tools required to install and secure it to the hitch. The rack locks in place with a simple hand-tightening cam system using a single, easy to get to, well-designed knob. Finally, carbon frame maybe in your future? Okay, again the Kuat fits the bill. This is a "no frame" contact, extremely easy bike load design. No exaggeration, the rack goes from garage to truck hitch, bikes loaded/secured, and then we're backing out of the drive in under 15 minutes. Did I mention how lightweight it is? Love the fact that I am thinking about the bike ride and not worrying about how I am getting the bikes there. 423863

Absolutely love the Kuat bike rack. My wife uses it easily by herself whenever she wants, which happens to be almost daily, and we use it all the time to take the dog and bikes to the park. Cant imagine not having it and if that were the case, wed have to buy it all over again. In sum, my guess is that the preceding dialog subtly reveals how much I think of the product.

Review from a similar Sherpa 2.0 in Hitch Bike Racks

Comments here are about the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 (2 inch hitch) mounted on a 2019 VW Tiguan SE fitted with a Drawtite 76192 trailer hitch (also purchased from etrailer). Positives: This is a great bike rack! It's super light, easy to use, very well built, and it works just as it should. Negatives: Security is weak, just as with most other racks. (But security is easily improved.) Details: etrailer delivered the rack with lightning speed, of course. (Thanks!) Assembly was a breeze, and learning to mount and secure bikes was equally simple. The hitch cam works much better than I had expected --- no need for a wrench to get a steady-riding rack. And with two bikes mounted, there's no sway, no wobble, no noise, no worries. A great rack, really. One concern (pre-purchase) was about ground clearance. Photo #1 shows 2 bikes mounted. The vertical distance from the ground to the bottom of the rack is exactly 12 inches. That's more than adequate for negotiating my driveway, as well as all for the roads I've travelled so far. Another concern (pre-purchase) was about interference with the backup camera, mainly when the rack is folded up. Photo #2 shows the hitch in that position. The camera is located near the center of that yellow rectangle, so there's some clearance both above and below the outer (upper) tray. Photo #3 shows the Tiguan's camera display as I back into a parking space. So, yes, there is some interference but it's really not bad at all. If you're adept at using your backup camera, the folded up Sherpa 2.0 won't cause major difficulties. Negatives about the Sherpa 2.0 have to do with security. I've got little confidence in the Kuat hitch pin lock, and the cable for locking bikes to the rack is, per the cliche, best at keeping honest people honest. But, a lot of shopping around uncovered few (if any) competing racks that are much better about security. Therefore: Choose your rack based on other criteria, and plan to spend extra money to deal with security. Given that view, the Sherpa 2.0 is an easy winner. 5 stars! On security: I leave a bike rack on my car for 9 months of the year; hence my concern about the backup camera. Photo #4 shows a closeup of the Sherpa 2.0 on my Tiguan. That's a Big Brand high security chain looped around the inner (lower) tray. The padlock passes over the Kuat hitch pin lock (protecting it a little) and then passes through the chain ring of the Drawtite hitch. It will take some effort to steal my Sherpa 2.0. The chain is 100 cm long --- just enough that the rack can fold down to carry bikes. But it's too short to allow the rack to tilt downward fully, so tailgate access is impacted. Photo #5 shows the situation with two trail bikes mounted. That's actually more than enough room to get at the cargo area, and with road bikes mounted the tailgate opens fully. So it's a very minor problem; a slightly longer chain would avoid it but look sloppy most of the time. Typically, I don't need to lock the bikes to the rack, but for those times when I do, I've got two more Big Brand chains each 160 cm long. Each chain can lock one bike's frame and the other bike's front wheel to the chain that protects the rack. This is not ideal, I know. But it's a big improvement over the security of any well-known rack. And the cost of those three chains is tiny compared to replacing a Sherpa 2.0 plus two bikes. 778374

Review from a similar Sherpa 2.0 in Hitch Bike Racks

I have been using the SH22G for 3 months and have made 4 trips at over 2 hours each way to try it out. I made a very good decision in purchasing this rack. I timed my bike loading with 2 road bikes ready to be loaded. Total time to load and secure 1 min 11 seconds. My 2 other racks take me 10 minutes to secure the bikes. This is the best looking bike carrying rack I have seen. The design is sleek, with no hanging pieces of metal. If you are into design you will love this beauty. It solved the problem with my spouse being able to easily lifting her bike on the rack and securing it when I am not available. It is so simple, sit it in the tire slots lower the hook over the front tires. The straps engage through the tires quickly. My bicycles are no longer hanging by their frames, they rest secure on their tires, The wheels don't swing or spin and the bike frames don't bang against each other. I can lower the bikes on the rack to load my vehicle. The rack comes with a built in cable lock. This rack is quiet and does not rattle or sway when driving. It rides so easy I can forget it is back there. 562344

  • Which Sherpa Bike Rack Solution Has Better Ground Clearance the 2 inch or 1-1/4 inch Version
The 1-1/4 inch version of the Kuat Sherpa part # SH12P does have more rise built into the shank of the rack than the 2 inch version part # SH22P. If you used a sleeve style hitch adapter you would have some noticeable movement between the rack and the hitch. It wouldn't be crazy but it depends on how stable you want the rack and the hitch. For an adapter then you'd want the part # HT02 if that is the route you want to go with the EcoHitch # 306-X7322. We really can't endorse or give...

The Sherpa 2.0 is a great for bikes with carbon frames because it secures the bikes by the wheels and the platform style makes it easy to get the bikes on and off. I've also linked a brief review video of the Sherpa that you may want to check out, if you haven't already.

  • Platform Bike Rack for Carbon Frame Bikes to Prevent Frame Damage
The Kuat Sherpa part # SH12P that you referenced would be a perfect bike rack for your application. It only touches the bikes at the tires so your carbon bike frames will not get damaged and also since it's platform bike rack it will allow for easy bike loading/unloading. This rack is also very lightweight too at 32 lbs. This rack is also rock solid on the highway. You can see that in the test course video I attached below.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack for 2018 Ford Fusion
The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Platform Rack # SH12P that you referenced is an excellent choice. This is an extremely well made rack that features larger front-wheel cradles to allow for easier loading, pivoting rear cradles that let you load different size bikes, a convenient foot pedal that lets you tilt the rack back for rear cargo access, and integrated locks to help protect your investment. In addition to the these premium functions I also just think this rack has a really sleek appearance that...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for Bikes that Have Fenders with a 2014 Honda Accord
It's not a great idea to use a wheel mount style bike rack with bikes that have fenders since the rack is going to be grabbing onto and putting pressure on the fenders. A better solution would be a frame mount bike rack that would not touch the fenders. A very popular platform bike rack that only touches the frame is the Thule DoubleTrack part # TH9054. This would work well for you. I attached a help article on this bike rack for you to check out as well. If you need a hitch for your...

If you have a hitch installed on your 2011 Ford Fusion like the Draw Tite part # 24865 the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 part # SH12P would fit easily and work well. It would have more than enough clearance to fit past the bumper folded up and down. I attached a review video for the rack for you to check out as well.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2019 Lexus IS 350
I recommend using the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11389 over the Draw-Tite # 24923 for your 2019 Lexus IS 350 because Curt hitches tend to have better welding and a thicker powder coat which contributes to a longer lasting trailer hitch. Attached are the written instructions as well as a sample photo of what this trailer hitch looks like installed for you to check out. Most people who get a trailer installed on an IS 350 plan on using it for a bike rack. If this is you then I recommend using...

The only difference between this part and the one you referenced is that H101-004 has a specific code, 004. The reason for this is simply a change in part numbers, and a specific code will not be able to be ordered.

  • Can Trailer Hitch be Installed on 2019 Volkswagen Golf TSI
What you are referring to is actually pretty common when it comes to smaller vehicles. It isn't surprising to see that UK versions are given the thumbs up to tow while US versions are discouraged from towing and I'm not sure what the reason is. I will say that quite a few people do still get trailer hitches installed on their Volkswagen Golf and are just fine. I can't really go against what your owner's manual says but if you do decide to install a trailer hitch the Curt Class I part #...

  • Comparing Draw-Tite and Curt Trailer Hitches for a 2019 Audi A3
Both the Draw-Tite # 24930 and Curt # C11399 trailer hitches are similar for your 2019 Audi A3 (non e-tron) as far as weight capacities and designs go. The real differences lie in the restrictions attached to either trailer hitch for accessories. The Draw-Tite has a tab welded into the receiver tube which can be a fit issue for some 1-1/4" accessories while the Curt requires the use of a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 for all non-trailer accessories. I highly recommend the Curt...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2019 Chevy Sonic Hatchback
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2019 Chevy Sonic is the Draw-Tite # 24878 because it is an easy bolt-on installation that will not require drilling into your Sonic's frame to install. Like you said, the available hitches for your Sonic have a 1-1/4 inch receiver, and they are Class I rated. This means that the bike rack you get would also have to be rated for a Class I hitch. The one I recommend checking out the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 because it offers a superb combination of function...

When folded, the T2 Pro measures 55" wide x 34" tall and the Sherpa 2.0 measures 42-1/4" wide x 27-3/4" tall (see photo). Kuat is a premium brand that competes with Thule when it comes...

To answer your first question, yes, the tongue weight capacity of a trailer hitch is what you would need to go by to determine how heavy the combined weight of your bike rack and bikes can be. The reason is not testing, it is simply precautionary and not a statement about the quality of the Curt hitches such as the # C12100 that fits your 2018 Subaru Forester.
