Today we're going to be taking a look at the Fastway universal coupler lock. The universal design is going to protect most trailers from being towed away so it's designed to provide maximum security for your unattended trainer. That's going to protect it from theft. It's going to use a multi-step uni-ball that fits into any size ball coupler. This piece is a solid construction, it's not hollow like similar designs and models and the shackle has a really nice unique bend. This is a reversible design that allows it to snug up tight to most type of couplers or coupler latches, including all the ones that you see here on the table, such as A-frame, straight channel, round tongue, flat plate, and serge-type couplers. It's also going to accommodate a variety of latching mechanisms such as trigger, pin, thumb and wrap-around yoke latches.
It works great on all the ones that you see here on the table. Really nice universal design that's going to provide maximum security to your unattended trailer. The unit features a tube key-lock cylinder that provides better security than standard key mechanisms. It's a lot harder to pick and it's more difficult to duplicate keys. It's also going to feature an anti-drill pin that discourages attempts to drill out the lock. The unit's also going to feature bolt-blocked locking system to prevent thieves from prying the lock open.
Inside this hole right there, there's going to be a small bolt that engages the shackle, so right now it would be in the unlocked position and you can see how that comes out just a little bit. It doesn't take much to secure the unit. That bolt that runs through there, engages the grooves on the shackle to keep it from being pried off of the trailer coupler. When it comes to the construction, we're looking at hardened steel construction when it comes to the shackle, it's going to provide maximum cut resistance. Chrome plated finish does a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. Then we're looking at a solid dye-cast corrosion resistant housing that's very strong and very durable. Two keys are included per lock.
They area numbered so the keys are going to be unique to the universal lock that you choose. This is going to fit 1-7/8", 2" and 2-5/16" ball couplers. You just need to make sure that the coupler width does not exceed 4-1/2". The shackle diameter is 5/8" and the unit's going to be covered with a limited lifetime warranty. I want to show you how it installs and how easy it is to use. What you'll need to do is separate the two components, so move it to the unlocked position.
It also has a nice dust cap that protects that lock opening. It's going to do a great job at keeping out dirt and moisture. When you're ready to use it, all you need to do is make sure that the coupler is in the open position. The ball portion goes in there, and then all you've got to do is secure it just as if you're hooking up to your hitch ball, then install the shackle. You need to determine which way's going to work best for your application. For this one, I want to make sure that the point is pointing back towards the trainer. It is a universal design, that way you can adjust it however you need to use the lock to fit your application the best. Then we just move it to an unlocked position, allow that shackle to go down as far as possible, move the key to the locked position and it removes from the core. Place on the dust cap and that's on there. It's not going to come off. The only what to get it off is to use one of the two keys to unlock the unit. That's going to do it for today's look at the Fastway universal couple lock.

I have other brands of coupler lock, and they have basically a hitch ball that fits into the coupler. This one has more of a post that fits into the coupler which is why it does not fit securely in the coupler.
I will be returning this lock.

We use these for our company trailers. As well as some personal stuff. And we have several. I like that fact that you can select your key number. It's nice for a business to have all locks keyed the same. Much less confusion with the guys in the field.
Just what I was looking for! Perfect fit on our 27 ft 2021 Jayco travel trailer with 4.5 inch wide coupler.
The lock seems extremely robustly made. My trailer has a wide flange around the coupler and the stepped design of the bail fits perfectly. The circular keyway is secure and the casting is smooth. The teeth on both sides of the bail provide more secure latching than my one-sided prior lock. The main lock piece is smooth on the bottom preventing someone from hooking under the lock and just towing the trailer away. My prior lock had a lip that allowed the trailer to be moved with a tow hook.
My only complaint is that it came with two very sharp, very pointy metal pins sticking out of the bail, maybe to secure it in the package. I had to get a pair of pliers to remove these before they ripped my hands up.
I really like this product, I do wish it would get a little bit tighter not allowing so much wiggle room at the top above the coupler level. But, it seems to be solid and serves the intended purpose.

Works great. This is my second one. Keyed alike for both of my trailers.
Fits my trailer and ordered one with same key as the one on my other trailer which is very handy. I suppose, with enough effort, this lock could be defeated but it presents a good reason to just move on to an unprotected trailer.
I bought several of these, keyed alike and have found them useful. The keyed alike feature is a winner. One key on every set of vehicle keys and I can access any of the rigs at will. The product itself can be a bit tricky to align, and on a steel hitch it will take some of the paint off eventually. Better than getting stolen I'd say. I've used it on 2 inch, 2&5/16 50mm and 1&7/8 couplers. The best fit is on the hitch I show a picture of, though in this case the lock is probably worth more than the trailer. . .

The ball lock I purchased from etrailer.com is the perfect tool for the job. It has several locking positions for different height tongue assemblies and one which was perfect for mine. The lock is smaller than the one I replaced, rendering it much less obtrusive. The chrome coloring also helps it blend better with the hitch, so if you use it while camping your trailer has a “friendlier” appearance to fellow campers. I really like the fact it came with 4 keys and case hardening makes it even safer and lighter than my old lock. Best of all, however, was the superb customer service I received from etrailer.com. Before, during, and yes, even after I received my lock they followed up to make sure I was happy. 5 star service. Would definitely recommend them to my trailering friends.
good product. Been using these for years. We have 12 bumper pull style trailers and use these tongue locks when they are on job sites. It's nice from e trailer because we can get the locks keyed the same. It was miserable having a bunch of different keys.
Our company has 6 trailers and we have this tongue lock on all of them. We did have an issue with one of them but Allison helped us through the issue. We have been using them for about 6 years, good secure product. We have all of our locks keyed alike so it's a perfect fit for our situation.
