Features to know about

Get More Out of Your Hauling Setup: Class II 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver

This Curt trailer hitch receiver is built for light-duty towing and everyday versatility. With a Class II rating, it’s capable of 3,500 lbs gross trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight, making it ideal for small trailers, lightweight campers, or a couple of bikes on a rack. The 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver gives you compatibility with popular accessories like cargo carriers and Class II ball mounts, so you can set up your vehicle the way you want for hauling gear or extra storage.

Simplify Home Installation: Custom Fit and Bolt-On Design

No welding or fabrication is needed to get this hitch mounted. The custom-fit design aligns precisely with existing factory holes for a straight bolt-on install using the included hardware kit. Because it’s built specifically for the vehicle’s frame points, you get a solid connection and consistent alignment without trimming or modification. That means it’s practical to tackle in a driveway with basic tools and a good step-by-step guide.

Count on Strength and Longevity: Fully Welded Steel with Dual-Layer Finish

The hitch uses precision robotic welding throughout its square-tube frame for consistent strength and durability. A gloss black powder coat is applied over a protective base coat to shield against rust and corrosion from road spray or winter salt. This double finish keeps the steel construction looking sharp while holding up under years of towing, bike hauling, or cargo carrying.

Built for Everyday Use: Ready for Towing or Accessory Loads

Whether it’s pulling a small utility trailer or adding a rear cargo tray for extra space, this receiver handles those daily tasks with confidence. The sturdy design keeps loads stable, and the Class II rating gives you plenty of capability for light to moderate duty use without overbuilding what you don’t need. It’s a straightforward way to turn your vehicle into a more capable hauler without sacrificing clean lines or practicality.

Delivered on time. Easy to install using instructions. Great look, low profile. Overall great product! Thanks etrailer.

Fit like a glove

by:

Easy install, fast shipping and solid experience with this hitch!

by:

Great hitch. Still solid and looks like new. Thanks for the installation advice you provided during the install… you know your stuff!

by:

The product itself is well made, however I ran into several obstacles when installing on my 16 RDX. Be prepared to clean up bolt threads in the body of the vehicle. In my case a 12x1.25 tap. Also the rear plastic bumper had to be cut for proper installation. It could be mounted without cutting but puts a bad bulge in the bumper because it hits. The bumper modification made the install longer than expected.

by:

Product and instructions were great. For me, cleaning using a wire brush wasn’t enough so I had to use a M12x1.25 tap to get the hole cleared out.

by:

Installation instructions were well explained for my RDX. I did installation myself in remarkably short time. Hitch is well built with apparent eye to quality.

by:

Product fit perfect. Video is very helpful and needs to be followed. Suggestion is to try the bolts that fit in the frame before trying to attach the hitch. Took me only 1hour to install.

by:

just received my order, Everything looks very good quality. I also purchased the wiring connector. It took about 60 seconds to locate the connection on the car, plugged in, attached with some wire ties that were included, routed the trailer end into the spare tire area, and DONE! so easy. Even the fuses were included, I did not have to go out and buy anything else. I am very impressed with E-trailer.

by:

They helped me find the right hitch for my Acura. I am using it with a bike rack, works great. Installed in about 30 minutes.

by:

The hitch came on the day as planned. Mounting the hitch was easy, and looks great, my wife is very happy the way it looks on her car. Now she's ready to hook up the bike rack, and head for the park.

by:

Hitch was received in several days. Instructions for installation were easy to follow. Online installation video was also helpful. Product quality was excellent. I would purchase from etrailer again.

by:

Easy to install. I glanced at the instructions. Maybe I should have looked closer. There are four bolts , two metric and two standard threads. They looked the same and I got them mixed up for a minute. I use this hitch for a bike rack, fastest , best way to carry bikes.

by:

We got the hitch for our new car to carry our bike rack. Delivery was quick and installation was simple.

by:

I’m a single mother so I was looking for something cheap but good quality and here I found it! I do not like to order anything off line, but I was very pleased with the fast delivery and the product. It was exactly what I was looking for and needed. I needed a tow hitch for my bicycle rack. It only took 45 minutes to put on and off we went. Now we can start every morning off with a hitch! ;) Thanks Etrailers

by:

Hitch arrived in great condition, very fast shipping, install was very easy, simply bolt on with 2 existing threaded holes and 2 handle nuts, no messing with exhaust, heat shields or trimming body panels.

This will used for a bike rack only, no actual towing. My only issue is due to the bike rack I use, a 1UP USA 2 bike tray rack. Because the receiver part is recessed under the bumper a bit you have to be careful to not slide the rack in too far into the receiver otherwise the bike closest to the car will touch the car body. I need to come up with a solution so this does not happen.

Thumbs up, thank you.

Love etrailer.com and the Curt hitches. This is my second installation of a Curt hitch, first on a VW Golf, and now this one on a Acura RDX. Their instructions are always clear and concise. This install was was just as straightforward as the first. I really appreciate other customers comments about hitch installations; particularly the one about supporting the hitch on a jack to position it during a one person installation. As a 76 year old I knew it was going to be an issue to try to hold it in position and get that first bolt in. With the help of the jack, my biggest issues were squirming around underneath the auto and trying to get the torque settings high enough.

by:

I was looking for a hitch for my Wife's RDX and saw one on another RDX with a Curt hitch on it. Only needed an 1 1/4" but wanted it as invisible as possible. This hitch tucks up as close to the bottom as possible. With the lower black trim on the vehicle, it's barely seen. Installation was very easy and fit perfectly. Dealer OEM hitch was ridiculously overpriced ($300+) and stuck out more. This was a fraction and shipped free. Also ordered a Curt bike rack from etrailer. Both are wonderful products.

by:

What a nice hitch...just as advertised. I installed this by myself in 30 minutes. The instructions were CLEAR, UNDERSTANDABLE, AND EASY TO FOLLOW and most importantly THE HITCH FIT THE VEHICLE! My skill level and tool availability is a 4-5 on a 0-5 scale. A 3 could do this easily, maybe even a 2. This would have been a 12 minute job if my neighbor had been available. I used a floor jack to hold the hitch in place while bolting on.The installed hitch looks great. I'll use it mostly to tow my 8x4 yard trailer around. I also purchased the RDX wiring harness. Nice product with EASY TO FOLLOW instructions. That Was Easy! Any questions? Thanks. PS: This was on my RDX 9 days after ordering..

by:

The hitch fit like a glove. Maybe took me 20minutes to install. I did put it on a new RDX so there was no clean up involved.
I'm 68 with shoulder problems even with that the installation was remarkably easy.

...still doing a great job of carring my bike rack...

by:

Your video explains the install perfectly.
Did have a problem with the install.
The suv mounting holes was not taped
Had to run out and buy the tap
Everything worked out great
Thank you etrailer

by:

Awesome product and service! Your informative website allowed me to order the correct hitch for my Acura. The installation was easy and took less than 15 minutes. I will definitely order my next hitch from etrailer!

by:

Went on easy enough. Seems solid.

  • Difference Between Class II and Class III Hitches for 2013 Acura RDX
Hey Jim, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense that the Class III 2 inch hitch part # C13130 that you referenced costs less than the Class II part # C12083 but to me that makes going with the Class III hitch that much more of a no-brainer as it has better towing capacities, is the more popular hitch size for accessories like bike racks, and it costs less. Are you planning on doing some towing? If so, you'll also need trailer wiring like the part # 56008 which is custom fit for your...

  • Installation Hardware for Curt Trailer Hitch C12083
Yes, you can absolutely get the installation hardware for the Curt trailer hitch # C12083. What you need is the Replacement Hardware Kit for Trailer Hitches # RHK. All you need to do is click # RHK, enter "C12083" in the "Hitch Item Number" box, select "Curt" from the drop-down menu, and hit “Add to Cart” to place your order. I have added a link to a video install of this hitch on a 2013 Acura RDX for you as well to take a look at.

  • Recommended 2" Hitch for a 2015 Acura RDX and Installation Process
Yes, the etrailer Hitch item # e24AR has an similar if not the same installation method as the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C12083. This hitch is confirmed to fit your 2015 Acura RDX. I have linked an installation video below for the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C13130 which will have an identical installation process as the etrailer item # e24AR. I have also linked the instructions. If you are planning on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # 118569 and a ball mount kit item # C45534.

  • Do You Recommend a Class II or a Class III Hitch for a Bike Rack on My 2018 Acura RDX?
As far as installing the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75784 on your 2018 Acura RDX, it is not overkill for the purposes of of transporting a 2-bike platform rack. Also, since the # 75784 involves a concealed crosstube design exactly like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12083, you won't have any bulky eyesores associated with an exposed crosstube. Also, the 2-inch receiver opening has the benefit of being compatible...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2016 Acura RDX
We do have trailer hitches and wiring that will fit your 2016 Acura RDX. For a trailer hitch I recommend a Class III hitch because they are more robust and have a 2 inch receiver that is compatible with more accessories. Curt Class III hitch # C13130 is a popular option for the RDX. I included a link to a video showing an example installation for you. For trailer wiring you can use wiring harness # 118569 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the back of the vehicle. If you plan on doing...

  • Trailer Hitch And Bike Carrier Recommendation For 2015 Acura RDX Rated For Class ll Hitch
I did some research and found that the maximum towing weight capacity for the 2015 Acura RDX is 1500 lbs when it is adequately equipped with either engine or drivetrain upgrades. The trailer hitches that are listed for your vehicle are Class ll hitches with a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening, like the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C12083. Although the 2014 and 2015 vehicles may be very similar, changes to the body or frame could be the reason a Class ll hitch is all the vehicle is rated for. Using...

  • Is Cutting the Bumper Required When Installing the Curt 12083 on a 2016 Acura RDX
No! When installing the Curt # C12083 on your 2016 Acura RDX there is not any cutting or alteration of the bumper required. This is actually rated as one of the easier hitches to install and it will give you a 1-1/4" receiver for the back of your RDX. I've linked an installation video of this hitch for you to check out, as well.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2016 Acura RDX
The trailer hitch # C12083 is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. But your 2016 Acura RDX could be rated differently. In this case you always go by the lower rating. I checked the owner's manual for the 2016 RDX and it is rated for 1,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 150 pounds tongue weight so you would be limited to that. Acura has determined that the vehicle design makes the vehicle capable of no more than 1,500 pounds. If you go with Curt trailer...

  • Recommended 2-Inch Trailer Hitch for Transporting Bikes on 2013 Acura RDX
Your 2013 Acura RDX can be fitted with two sizes/classes of trailer hitch, either a lighter-duty 1-1/4-inch Class II type like # C12083 or a higher-capacity 2-inch Class III type like # 75784. Some Curt brand hitches do have a warranty requirement of using their support strap # 18050 with loads like bike racks, but since the Draw-Tite # 75784 has no such requirement I recommend this 2-inch hitch. The written instructions and a video are linked to illustrate the installation process. Many...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Acura RDX and Thule T2 Pro Bike Rack
If you have the 2 inch version of the Thule T2 Pro # TH83JV then I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75784 for your 2017 Acura RDX. The Curt option would require the use of stabilization strap # 18050 when using it with a bike rack per the Curt warranty requirements. Draw-Tite does not have that requirement. If you have the 1-1/4 inch version of the T2 Pro, # TH23JV, then the only option is Curt hitch # C12083 and you would have to use the stabilization strap # 18050.

  • The Best Trailer Hitch Recommendations for a 2015 Acura RDX
Amazon would be incorrect. When a company sells everything, they rarely know much about the products. Curt trailer hitch # C12083 does indeed fit your 2015 Acura RDX. I even verified this with Curt, the manufacturer. I have also linked all of the trailer hitches that fit your RDX to the right. If you go with the Curt Class II trailer hitch, # C12083, then the correct ball mount to use is # C45521. On a Class II hitch you have to use the ball mount indicated by the hitch manufacturer...
