Jeff Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Taylor Made 23 inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches. Now this gas strut is designed to replace a worn out or damaged strut on your boat's hatch, or on your compartment door, and extends the ease lifting your hatch lid and it'll compress to gently close your hatch without slamming. It is a heat treated steel construction which is very durable, and they do use a corrosion resistant coating on it so it won't rust, even in salt water areas. It is a ball and socket installation, it attaches to ball studs on the inside of your boat's hatch, and the connection type is a 10mm size ball socket. It does easily install in minutes, there's no special tools required.

Basically, wanted to zoom in and just show you what the ends look like. But, basically, what you'll do is remove your old strut and then to install this one, there's a clip that they have on the end, here, you just get a small screwdriver, pry up that C-clip and you don't have to remove it, just pry it up enough to release the tension on the ball itself, and then insert the socket of the strut onto the ball stud. Once it's on the ball stud, just push that C-clip back down and it'll lock the strut to the ball, and you'll do the same on the other end, it's the same on both ends. Now when you do install this, you'll wanna make sure the inner rod portion is facing down, and it is recommended to replace these gas shocks in pairs. The length we mentioned on this is 23 inches, and that's measured from the center of this socket to the center of this one.

So if we put a tape measure on that, there's your 23 inch length. The compression force on this shock is 70 pounds and this is for a quantity of one strut. But that should do it for the review on the Taylor Made 23 inch long straight steel gas strut for boat hatches..

  • Recommended Replacement Gas Strut for a 2019 Aliner Classic Camper
Hey Robert, I wasn't able to find anything on that strut but does it loos like we carry a bunch of 23" long gas struts, like # 3691879-70 which you could potentially use. This particular gas strut is 23' long extended, has a 70 lb compression force, and uses a 10mm ball socket. If you have something different let me know, and we can find a better replacement.
