does the bumper need to be altered in order to install the Curt 1-1/4 trailer hitch for a 2016 RDX?

No! When installing the Curt # C12083 on your 2016 Acura RDX there is not any cutting or alteration of the bumper required. This is actually rated as one of the easier hitches to install and it will give you a 1-1/4" receiver for the back of your RDX.
