Add Utility Without Losing Style: 1-1/4" Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver

This Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver gives your vehicle the flexibility to tow light trailers or carry a bike rack and cargo carrier without taking over the look of your rear end. The square-tube, visible cross-tube design sits neatly under the bumper so all you see is the receiver opening. With a 2,000 lbs maximum gross trailer weight rating and a 200 lbs maximum tongue weight, it’s built for smaller loads like utility trailers, lightweight campers, or a pair of bikes.

Simple DIY Install: Bolt-On Design with No Welding Required

This hitch is made for at-home installation. It bolts directly on using a complete hardware kit and doesn’t need any welding. The precision, robotic welding and custom fit mean holes line up cleanly for an easy install with basic tools. If you’re handy around the garage or driveway, this setup keeps things straightforward and frustration-free.

Built to Last: Welded Steel with Rust-Resistant Finish

Durability is key when you’re towing or hauling gear. The fully welded, powder-coated steel construction gives this hitch solid strength for consistent use. A gloss black powder coat finish over a protective base coat resists rust and keeps it looking sharp over time. It’s rated Class I for dependable light-duty performance whenever you need it.

This hitch was pretty simple to install but it took me around 3 hours total to do. Half this time was spent trimming the heat shield because I wanted to take off as little as possible and then trying to get the exhaust clips off the exhaust bracket (not mentioned in the instructions) using a couple flathead screwdrivers. Otherwise, I used a box to prop up one side while I installed the hitch. Note: Once you unscrew the two bolts from the exhaust, it will not drop down because of those two plastic clips you have to push back on the exhaust bracket. Aviation sheers and a good socket set are needed.

This is awesome, thanks for taking the time to share all that. That’s the kind of real world detail that really helps the next person out. Sounds like you took the patient route with the heat shield, which is honestly the right call even if it adds a little time. And those exhaust clips can definitely be sneaky, I’ve seen those trip people up more than once, so that’s a great tip to call out for other customers. How is the hitch treating you so far? What are you towing?

Fit perfectly, Harness and hitch. YouTube [video] was a great help.

Well, after I learned from video I was using wrong holes. Less than a half hour install. Perfect alignment. The installation was so easy and quick, I chose not to cut heat shield and plastic cover. I saved the fish wire since I will not keep the hitch on all the time. A Lamborghini has better ground clearance than this car. I used wheel ramps, since I was too lazy to drive to my shop. Worked great. If you are going to remove the hitch, the fish wire they include, just put some side tension with your finger after bolts are in the hole and unscrew the fish wire and save it. I used my knees lifting hitch into place. It worked great. Having a lift, I recommend not using. Using wheel ramps and my knees, I was able to install by myself. I would definitely recommend this hitch.

Great, its not really affecting the ground clearance. Very happy with it. I used quite a few time since review. Its still on Found a junked vehicle and bought the parts you recommended to modify and installed them. Its still installed. Very happy with product.

This is the second trailer hitch that I have purchased from etrailer.com. Not only was this install pretty easy, the customer service and the quality of the products that etrailer.com sells are both outstanding! I am not a mechanic but I do have tools and I installed this trailer hitch for my Chevy Cruze by myself. I purchased this hitch for the use of a bike rack and a cargo carrier for camping. I am very happy with the results and I can't wait to take my bike to the beach with some friends.
Thank you very much for your great customer service and excellent products!

Always deliver the right order fast!
by:
Hitch is built very well. Only one issue with 2017. One of the heat shield studs above muffler must be removed as there is no hole in hitch for it to come through. Could use better directions for heat shield trimming. 2017 does not have under body pannal to remove. Took under 30 minutes to install. Added hitch carrier basket. It is only 9 inches off ground. Think that will need 4 inch riser to keep it from dragging at gas station driveway.

The shipping was free and very fast and the tracking page that shows your order all the way through to delivery is cool. This is a great company to order from. My Cruze is now ready to carry my bikes anywhere.

Missing 1 square washer that fits up into the frame.

They sent me the wrong hitch and won’t send me the right one correct their mistake. It was their mistake and I’m paying for it. Don’t buy from them, I sure won’t again

Put this on my Chevy Cruze for a Bike rack.

Simple to install.(Relatively) It is a mechanical install requiring a basic skill set. But was hassle free and straight forward. The coil wire guides for the bolts saved a lot of headaches.

2017 Chevrolet Cruze
The trailer hitch is good and well built for the size of it. It was a little more work to mount it in the Chevy Cruise than I thought it would be. I had to remove some items and put them back on but there was no holes that had to be drilled. Now if the person that stole my bike rack that I got the hitch for would return it, that would help.
by:
Great hitch, easy installation, box arrived with considerable damage but luckily the hitch was undamaged.

Delivery was fast. I will finish reviewing product when I install the hitch. Jane and Howard are always satisfied with items we get from etrailer and the expert help we receive by Vedio or phone help!
I took the Chevy Cruze to Chevy dealer. They removed the heat shield off and installed the hitch. They said the heat shield are so thin it would be hard to cut it because it would rattle. I live in Vermont so in the spring I will put a thermometer in the trunk to over where the muffler is to see if it creates a high temperature in that area of the trunk. The hitch installed easily works great. I and Jane Johns have bought other items from etrailer starting with roof rack, other trailer hitches for Hyundia car Chevy impala hitch’s, bike racks, wiring package, everything has worked great. My thinking on the heat shield on the Chevy Cruze is to make it stiffer if it needs to be reinstalled that the reason I took the Cruze to Chevy dealership.

2018 Chevrolet Cruze
Well made product. I had watched a couple of videos on installation on my car. It took me about 1 1/2 hours. I had decided I wasn't going to cut my heat shield down as much as the videos showed. The directions for cutting down the heat shield aren't very good. Deciding exactly where to cut was a big part of my 1 1/2 hours. You know the old measure twice and cut once. What I ended up with is probably more likely to rattle but also much more like Chevrolet intended. I jacked the driver side up to where the rear wheel almost came off the ground and installed it by myself using a small jack to lift it. I believe the car couldn't have been any lower and got the shield out. I am only intending to use it to haul a bicycle because the Cruze is not intended for pulling a trailer.

Watched your Video on installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver.
Simple, concise instructions made the job very easy to complete. Much better than the written instructions. Right at two hours to install Hitch Receiver and wiring.

The trailer hitch is an excellent product. I found the instructions a little unclear. I called for technical help which proved to be helpful. However the muffler hanger proved to be quite a problem. There were two plastic clips behind the hanger that prevented the hanger from dropping down. Eventually I was able to locate the clips and release them and the hanger came free.

Product has held up great and I appreciated how quickly it arrived when I placed the order. All around pleasant shopping experience.

The installation has taken place and we’ve used the hitch a few times.

Excellent product. Easy to install. I wish there would have been a video on installing on a 2017 Cruze. It is different from earlier years. Did manage with the paper instructions.

Fit Perfect! Took a little longer to install then expected, about 1.5 hours start to finish. 2018 Cruze LT. the bolt for the heat sheild above the muffler just fit into the slot and didn't need cut off.

  • What Type of Hitch Can Fit 2016 Chevy Cruze
For your 2016 Chevy Cruze you can put on a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4 inch hitch opening like the part # C11439 for if you prefer an easier install or the part # 24943 which would be more hidden once installed. I attached install videos for both hitches for you to check out as well.

  • Trailer Hitch And Wiring For A 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Sedan
The easiest trailer hitch to install for your 2017 Chevrolet Cruze, according to our install professionals, is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11439. This is very much going to be your best bet because there is no trimming to the fascia required, which can be difficult. For wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118696. This harness is even easier to install than the hitch, it will simply plug into your vehicle's factory wiring harness...

  • Does Heat Shield of 2018 Chevy Cruze Have to be Modified Like Curt Recommends
Often times there are different ways to modify the heat shield of a vehicle when installing a hitch like the Curt # C11439 on your 2018. Typically our manufacturers recommend the simplest way to modify it but going a different route can work well. We can't guarantee that what you wanted to do would work but worse case scenario you could try it and then go the way Curt recommends and for sure that would work.

We have the 2016 Chevy Cruze Limited listed separate fit guide listing, as if it is a different vehicle all together, not just a different trim model. • How to Carry 4 Bikes With a 2016 Chevy Cruze
I do have a solution for you to carry 4 bikes, but since the trailer hitch receivers that are available for your 2016 Chevrolet Cruz are 1-1/4 inch Class I receivers you will be limited to a 2 bike carrier for the hitch. To carry 4 bikes you will need to install a roof rack and carry 2 bikes on your roof. For your 2016 Chevy Cruze, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class I hitch, part # C11439. The # 24943 you'd looked at would be a great hitch, but it's much more difficult and time consuming to install. If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll need a trailer wiring harness like # 118696. For a ball mount, use # C45521 and a # PC2 hitch pin. For a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball, use # A-80 or # A-82 for a 2 inch ball. There are two Class I trailer hitch receivers with a 2,000 pound towing capacity available for your 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. The Draw-Tite Sport Frame # 24943 and the Curt # C11439. If you're looking for a hitch I suggest the Draw-Tite because it does not require the use of a stabilization strap, # 18050, for non-trailer loads like the Curt does. If you only need the hardware to install either hitch the part is # RHK. You will need to put in the part number and manufacturer of the hitch...
