Features to know about

5 Years Without Adding or Changing Lubricant

Cross section of Vault installed

Once the Vault system is filled and installed, you can leave the lubricant alone. Adding or changing the lubricant is not necessary or recommended during the first five years of service. That means no routine topping off, and the system stays closed while it protects and lubricates your trailer bearings. It's also backed by Dexter's 5-year limited warranty.

Hybrid Lubrication That Changes with Heat

Vault uses a semi-solid lubricant that becomes more fluid as your bearings heat up on the road. As the temperature rises, the lubricant flows more freely around the bearings, giving you the lubrication benefits of an oil-bath while keeping everything contained inside a closed hub system.

See the System Respond as Pressure Builds

As operating temperature and pressure increase inside the hub, the attached plug at the end of the Vault cap extends outward. The closed, pressurized system helps keep water and contaminants away from your bearings, making it especially useful for trailers that see wet conditions or regular trips down the boat ramp.

Know What to Expect When Service Is Needed

Vault works differently from other grease caps with an external zerk fitting. You can't simply add lubricant through the installed cap. When lubricant service is eventually needed, the entire Vault cap must be removed to access and refill the hub. It's a messy process, but one you shouldn't need to tackle during the first five years of service.

Match the Kit to Your Axle and Hub

Vault compatibility is based on your trailer's axle weight rating and hub bore size. This kit is designed for 2,500-lb, 3,200-lb, and 3,500-lb axle applications with a 1.98" hub bore. You also get two Vault assemblies, O-rings, 1 tube of Vault hybrid lubricant, an installation tool, grease fitting, and Loctite for the installation.

  • Is there a Replacement O-Ring that Sits at the Back of the Spindle Before the Backing Plate?
Hello Jeff, Thank you for the picture, they are always most helpful. That is an interesting set-up. It looks like it might be an old o-ring from a Dexter Vault like the Dexter Vault Hybrid Lubrication System for 2,500-lb to 3,500-lb Trailer Buddy Axles # DX52UR, do you know if that was previously on there? What kind of trailer is this on? I cannot see the full Spindle in the picture you sent, is it a straight spindle with both L44649? If so you could order Complete Bearing Kit with L44649...

  • Troubleshooting a Dexter Vault Hub that Has Popped Out Slightly
Hey Steve, thanks for the pictures. That's normal. The Dexter vault hubs popping out slightly like that shows the system is pressurized. It'll pop out all the way if there's a leak or a problem. I would check the other one though. It looks like it's leaking at the pilot hole but I don't know how long that grease has been there. I recommend wiping off the grease and seeing if it leaks out again. If it does you'll most likely want to replace that axles vault kit. We have four options based...

  • Dexter Vault Hub Service Kit Replacement Kits
Hey Daniel, I'd be happy to help! We actually have replacement kits for the Vault style hubs, but it really depends on what you're needing to fix. Here are the kits listed out according to axle capacity: - 2.5K-3.5K # DX52UR - 4.2K-5.2K # DX23ER - 6K # DX83ER - 7K # DX73ER Do these kits seem to have what you're needing, or are you needing something else that's not included in the kits?

  • Recommended Vault Hub Kits and Replacement Options
Hey Tracy thanks for the information. I wasn't able to get anything off of that serial number you gave me though. If you could pull one of your hubs and send me the part numbers stamped on the sides of the bearings I'll be able to track down some replacement options for you. What are you trying to replace your vault hubs with and what lug nut pattern do your wheels have? Additionally, we have replacement kits for the Vault style hubs, but it really depends on what you're needing to...

  • Where Does O-Ring of Dexter Vault Kit # DX52UR Go
The O-rings of the # DX52UR goes between the covers and the hub and the zerk fitting is a replacement if needed. We don't have ability to make a video for this quite yet though.

  • Dexter Vault Hybrid Lubrication System for Boat Trailer Axle
Hey Chad, we do have Dexter Vault kits like it sounds like you are looking for but it comes down to what capacity axle you have to determine which kit you need. # DX52UR is for 2500 to 3500 lb axles # DX23ER is for 4200 to 5200 lb axles # DX83ER is for 6k axles # DX73ER is for 7k axles. Since you mentioned 1.98 inch diameter its very likely what you need is the part # DX52UR for 3,500 lb axles.

  • Will Vault Trailer Hub/Bearings Hold Up After 6 Years
Hey Kenny, most likely everything is totally fine. 2,400 miles shouldn't be much at all for the bearings in your Vaul hub. As long as you haven't seen any grease/oil leak out of the hub and they aren't getting overly hot I would say your just fine. Do you know what axle capacity you have? If you do I could let you know what the replacement parts would be so if you wanted to have them on hand just in case.

  • Recommended Vault Hybrid Lubrication System for a 3,500 lbs Idler Hub
No, they're different systems Brain. Any hub can be used for the Vault lubrication system so long as the hub bore matches the diameter of the cap. An Easy Grease Hub Assembly like item # AKIHUB-545-35-G-EZ-K has an open ended grease cap to access a grease zerk on an EZ lube axle. Then you put grease into the axle to lubricate it. The Dexter Vault Hybrid Lubrication System item # DX52UR would attach to the hub and you would fill it with a special hybrid oil that acts like grease. This...

  • What Bearing Kit and Replacement Parts for My Dexter Vault do I Need for 3,500 Axle Skeeter Boat?
Hello Keith, Congrats on the Skeeter! For your #84 spindle, you'll want the Hub Bearing Kit for Lippert, Dexter, and AL-KO Axles - 3,500 lb with #84 Spindle # BK2-100. If you don't mind spending a little more on higher-quality bearings, I'd go with the Timken Bearing Kit for Lippert, Dexter, and AL-KO Axles - 3,500 lb with # TMK52VR. Since you're already going to have everything apart, including the races, if you don't have a tool like the 7-Piece Installation Set for Bearings, Races,...

  • Which Dexter Vault Hybrid Lubrication Kit Do I Need For A Nitro Z7 Single Axle Trailer?
Hey Brian, thanks for reaching out. We should have a Dexter Vault kit for you, but not knowing the axle capacity makes it tricky since the caps that come with the kits are sized based on the axle capacity. If there is no axle tag, there are other ways we can narrow down what you need. For the vault kits, if you can remove a grease cap and measure the OD, that will tell us what kit you'll need. For example, the 3,500 lb kit part # DX52UR has caps with a 1.98" OD. Another way to narrow...
