Kwik-Slide Square-Tube Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel - Sliding Fifth Wheel - RP30084 Review

Today were going to review part number RP30084. This is the Reese Fifth Wheel Singe-Jaw Trailer Hitch with the round-tube slider and it has a 20,000-pound weight capacity. This fifth wheel hitch has the forged, single-piece, self-latching jaw, which will provide absolute security with the wrap-around design and the increased jaw-to-king-pin contact will result not only in a stronger connection, but less rattle and movement as well. Let me show you the actual jaw operating. Were just going to pull the pin and clip and the handle, that will release the locking mechanism. Basically as you can see, as I pull that out and then latch it into place, that single jaw right here.

This is the forged single-piece jaw. So if you just pull that open, lock it into place, that will be open for the king pin to slide into the funnel and attach your fifth wheel to the hitch head. Once the king pin gets in there, actually at the very bottom, theres a little indicator, which when that king pin pushes in on that it will move this latch out of the way and allow you the lock the handle down. So meaning that once the king pin is securely in there and it pushes that indicator, youll be able to lock the handle to keep it from opening up. So basically once the king pin is in there, the single jaw would wrap around it and it will push on there, and that indicator will move out of the way.

So basically what Im going to do is rotate this so you can see what Im talking about on the indicator. Right here, where the hole is on the handle, that indicator, once the king pin is installed, it would push up against this indicator and youll see this lever right here, it will move out of the way. Then with it out of the way, meaning the king pin is installed correctly, you could put the pin and clip down through there. Ill do it that way. Drop that pin and clip down through there and hook it and that will keep the handle from unlocking and opening up the jaw to allow the king pin to come out.

Now this hole is large enough, you can use a padlock in there for additional security. The padlock would be sold separately. Now this hitch does use the newer, elite series style hitch head that is used on the more expensive fifth wheels. This is a tough, heavy-duty stamped head. It has the nine-inch wide funnel you can see right here, rather than traditional six-inch wide funnel.

The nine-inch wide funnel will provide a larger area for the guiding king pin into the hitch. Has a four-way pivot design. If you can see it will go front to back and it will go side to side. It has a six degrees side-to-side pivot. This will make it fast and easy for hookup even on unlevel ground. Has a nice extended-length lockable handle, which will let you easily secure the trailer to the hitch, and then you can use a padlock like I had mentioned. It has the king pin indicator which keeps the hitch from locking until the connection is secure. Another feature on this hitch is the hitch height adjustment. Just going to rotate it this way. Youll be able to see there are four sets of holes on this crossmember that you can install the bolts into. So you can make this hitch head at whatever hitch height you need it above your truck bed. Basically if you put these bolts in the very top holes, that would be the lowest position, which would be 14 inches above your truck bed. If you put them down at the very bottom holes, that would raise it to the highest, which is 18 inches above the truck bed. So you have a range of four inches on the hitch height. Now for this video, I am actually showing you the hitch installed in the base rails and it has the mounting brackets installed on the side. Those are sold separately. They do not come with this part number. You would have to get the correct rails and mounting brackets for your vehicle. Now on the mounting brackets, we do recommend to get the custom install brackets because they are designed to use holes already in your truck bed frame, so it minimizes the amount of drilling, and it does cut the installation time in half when compared to the universal installation brackets. This hitch will fit in the Curt, the Valley, Draw-Tite, Hidden-Hitch, and Reese base rails. The steel has a black powder coat finish and it does resist corrosion. This part is made in the USA. A few specs on this: It has a gross towing weight capacity of 20,000 pounds, has a vertical load limit of 5,000 pounds. Again, I mentioned the hitch height adjustment of 14-to-18 inches. Now on the square-tube sliders, it does have a travel of 10 inches front-to-back. It does come with a five-year limited warrantee. I just want to rotate this to show you how the slider is operated. Basically the square-tube slider will provide clearance for your short-bed pickup to turn safely at slow speeds. Itll prevent your trailer from hitting the cab of your pickup during the sharp, slow-speed turns. So basically what you want to do is if you move this handle into the very upright position where the red is indicated here. That is the unlocked position, and what that will allow is these legs to slide on the square-tube slider back and forth, maximum of 10 inches. Now if you come to a camping spot and youre wanting maneuver your trailer into a position and you need to do sharp turns to maneuver it around, what you want to do is pull this all the way this way and it will say locked maneuvering position. What that does is it allows these legs to lock into position. So what will happen is theyll move as far as they can towards the rear or the tailgate of your truck and towards the trailer, and then theyll stop and lock into position. What that does is it gives you a lot of clearance between your truck cab and your trailer. So when youre maneuvering and making sharp turns, you wont have any interference of the trailer and the truck cab. Then once youve done camping and youre ready to get back on the highway for some towing, what you would want to do is just push this handle all the way to the lock towing position. What that will do is it will allow these legs to slide all the way towards your truck cab and then stop and lock into position that way. That way it will move your trailer closer to your truck cab, and for towing that is what youd want because youre not going to be making any sharp 90-degree or tight turns like you are when youre maneuvering. So thats how you would operate the slider legs on this. I just want to rotate around. One last feature I forgot to mention on the head is right here theres a nice Zerk grease Zerk fitting in this head. So you can actually put a grease gun into there, squirt grease into there, and it would come out underneath and help lubricate all the moving products on this hitch head. The hitch is over built and will outlast the truck. After pulling a 38’ camper with it I would like to switch my flatbed to us the 5th wheel. The only small issue is the slider. Hard to lock it in the back position. May need adjustment. Etrailer’s service was grate. The product was as described. All parts came with the order. Videos on the website were helpful planning the installation. No unexpected issues. New buyers fill out the survey when they send it. Also, hitch shipped to me with to main pieces that were not drilled properly for alignment . Once I figured out what was wrong etrailer quickly shipped out new pieces. 240549
