Video Transcript for Pro Series Fifth Wheel - Fixed Fifth Wheel - PS30128 Review

Today we're going to review part number PS30128. This is the Pro Series fifth wheel trailer hitch with the rails and the installation kit all included. Has a 15,000 pound weigh capacity. Now this is a sturdy and reliable fifth wheel hitch at a very affordable cost. Has the rounded slide bar single jaw system which will automatically latch around your trailer king pin. This will offer improved load management of ride when compared to similar models. The head, you can see, is a 4 way pivoting head, helps with trailer hookup, moves front to back and the the skid plate goes side to side to ensure easy trailer hookup even on uneven ground.

When you go to mount the cross member to the legs, there's 4 rows of holes on each side, so you want to make sure you position it correctly to match your specific trailer's height. The hitch height will be measured from the top of your truck bed to the top of the skid plate so you want it to be exactly for your application. Now the legs you can see are a 1 piece formed leg which will create a wide footprint for superior stability. Now the other nice thing, the design of this hitch makes the fifth wheel hitch very easy to install and remove for one person. Basically you can lift off this head unit just by removing the 2 pins and clips right here. Take down the side of the side and then the cross-members attach to the legs, if you remove the pins where the legs are, you can actually lift the legs and the cross-member out.

It's pretty light so you can actually, one person could lift this all out of the truck bed and have it out of there, makes it very easy. Now on the handle itself, you can see, has a nice cushion grip on the handle. Provides comfortable jaw operation. There's a tab right here on the handle which is lockable. They do include a padlock and 2 keys so once your kingpin is in your hitch, and this slides and locks into place, you can put the padlock in. I'm going to show you how to do that in a minute.

This will lock your fifth wheel trailer to the hitch. Now again, I mention it does come with the 10 bolt rails. Come with the universal installation kit, you can see right up here in front. Now what we do like to recommend is, we would recommend go to our fit guide . go to our website and use our fit guide. Put in your year and model vehicle and if they do offer a custom fit fifth wheel brackets or vehicle specific fifth wheel brackets, we sell those separately.

We do recommend to use those because it'll make installation if the rails a lot easier than using the universal kit. The universal takes a little bit longer. A custom fit kit would probably cut the time in half to install it because it uses existing holes on your frame rails. Now the specs on this, the gross towing weight capacity, again is 15,000 pounds. Vertical load limit or pin-weight capacity is 3,750 pounds. The hitch height, when you talk about you have 4 different rows of holes that you can set it at will range anywhere from, if you put it on the top holes it be 13 inches from the truck bed to the skid plate. If you put it on the bottom holes, it'll be 17 inches. The skid plate thickness itself is a half an inch. Just to show you how this would operate, what you would do is first, when you're preparing to hook up to your fifth wheel, just first open up your jaw, this single jaw here. Pull it all the way out and pull it back towards the tow vehicle and there's a little notch there that will hold it open. Then what will happen, as you're backing up to your fifth wheel, this is your king pin, this is what would be on your pin box on your fifth wheel. As your sliding into that to hook up, you can see as it slides into the head, it will automatically release that single slide bar there and that'll lock it into place. Then to finally secure it, those holes on the tabs line up. Just take your padlock, open it up, slide it through the hole, lock it. Then you're all ready to go. Nobody will be able to take your fifth wheel away from the hitch. That should do it for the review on part number PS30128. This is the Pro Series fifth wheel trailer hitch with the rails and the installation kit and a 15,000 pound weight capacity.

Pro Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Rails and Installation Kit - Slide Bar Jaw - 15,000 lbs - PS30128

Average Customer Rating:  4.9 out of 5 stars   (18 Customer Reviews)

This fifth-wheel trailer hitch hauls trailers up to 15,000 lbs and features a rounded slide bar on a 4-way-pivoting head for secure hookup. Hitch height adjusts from 13" to 17". Rails and universal 10-bolt installation kit included.

I thought this included everything since I had to put in my make and model. But they didn't include brackets that if I would have installed as is I would have voided my warranty. Paid the extra for the brackets elsewhere. 668553

The hitch includes the universal install kit which allows the hitch to be installed on most full-sized trucks. Vehicle-specific bracket kits are available but are sold separately.

I received the 5th wheel kit and since I'm an experienced mechanic, it took me and a friend about 4 hours to install. We took our time, and I used grade 8 bolts and lock nuts. That's just my OCD. It helps to have someone in the p/u bed while I worked under the truck. I used a cordless impact wrench, and then a torque wrench to tighten all fittings. The 5th wheel arch and plate are removable, but they're a bit heavy. Two people can put the hitch on the rails in about ten minutes. If you follow the instructions, you shouldn't have any trouble. I have a 30 ft. trailer and the hitch is easy to use. 706136

I dont like bashing another company but after contacting the other major RV dealer and parts supplier who happened to have 2 stores within a driving distance I was told if I was to pick up the hitch it would be not on sale and some $200 more. They didn't have it in stock at either store anyhow. I was then told if I ordered on line it would be about $100 for delivery, wow, no thanks. Over to etrailer's website, same hitch, in stock, and my order was placed. The hitch was delivered the day they said it would be with FREE shipping. Free, all 160 lbs of it. I am thrilled with the 5th wheel hitch, shipping and service. You just cant beat etrailer. 566934

  • Base Rails and Installation Kit Recommendation for 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty
You can easily mount a fifth wheel hitch in your 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty and to do that I strongly recommend the Curt Custom 5th Wheel Installation Kit for Ford # C16428-204 because they do not require any drilling into your truck's frame to install and include galvanic isolators that are going to prevent corrosion in your Ford's aluminum bed. Not having to drill into your truck's frame is not only good for your truck but also reduces the amount of time it takes to install the rails....

I recommend using the Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50087 with these base rails to give you the installation without drilling into the trailer frame. The B&W Companion OEM Base # BWRVB3600 for the Head Assembly # BWRVC3006 does offer horizontal adjustments with the pivot arms to help with cab clearance if needed. With any hitch it is best for the hitch to be centered directly over the rear axle. Since you have a long bed truck you shouldn't need to worry about cab clearance so I recommend having the hitch in this position. As you mentioned, the pivot arms on the base also allow for vertical adjustments to change the hitch height....

First of all, thanks for the kind words, they are certainly appreciated. To the matter at hand, the correct fit for a B&W Turnoverball gooseneck hitch on a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 with an 8' bed is part # BWGNRK1313-5W. This is significant because it will determine where the socket post goes when you are installing the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W. The rails in this kit will accept your Reese 15K hitch. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation. • Placement of Fifth Wheel Hitch In Truck Bed Relative to Rear Truck Axle
The correct placement of the fifth wheel hitch will vary from vehicle to vehicle. It can also vary according to the type of install kit being used. Typically, the hitch will be installed so that the trailer king pin will be directly over or slightly forward of the center line of the rear truck axle. You never want the king pin rearward of the truck axle, because the pin weight of the trailer can actually make the front end of the truck too light. This can negatively affect braking and steering...
