Video Transcript for Complete Breakdown of the Primary Wire Heat Shrinkable Tubing

Today we're going to be taking a look at Deka's Shrinkable Tubing. These are available in either red or black and gauges between 2-8, 8-12, 10-14, or 14-18. You'll want to use heat shrink to cover up any exposed surfaces, especially on power circuits. We've got some here covering up the ends of our ring terminals where we've crimped it onto our battery wires. We also used it here where we connected two wires together using a non-insulated crimp. And you can see we've used it again here on a larger gauges.

You want to make sure that you use the appropriate size for the gauge wire you are working with. It's a shrinkable EDA tubing that is slightly larger than the gauge you're working with when you're using that appropriate size. You slide it over the wire before making your connection. Once you've made your connection you slide the shrink tubing back over the exposed wire and apply a heat source. I recommend using a heat gun. If you need a heat gun you can pick on up here at etrailer.com.

You can see here as the heat source is applied to it the tubing shrinks tightly over our exposed wiring keeping out any moisture and corrosion that may occur. And that completes our look at Deka's Shrinkable Tubing.

  • Replacing Damaged 7-Way Connector And I Don't Have All 7 Wires On My Trailer
The violet wire that you are referring to is most likely the reverse lamp wire. You will want to confirm this with a Circuit Tester # PTW2993 as not all manufacturers use the same color wires on the same terminals. If you do not have this on your trailer I recommend checking with local laws where you will be operating the trailer on their specific laws in regards to the reverse lights on a trailer. If the wire you are missing is to something besides the reverse lights let me know and I...

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for a Salt Water Boat Trailer
For a salt water boat trailer, I recommend using the 35 Ft 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness item # A35W42B. This 42' harness is trimmable and has two tail light wires that split at the harness. This is beneficial because the separate wires can run down each side of the trailer to tail lights without needing a jumper wire. You're also going to want to use the Primary Wire Heat-Shrinkable Tubing item # DW05452 to keep out the water when you're connecting to your lights.

  • 1992 Dodge Ram 250 Conversion Van Hitch Recommendation
The Zephyr conversion didn't do anything to change the rear bumper and frame area of your 1992 Ram 250 van, so a standard hitch would work great for you. I'd recommend the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch # C13041. The hitch has a 6000 lb towing/600 lb tongue weight capacity. If used with a weight distribution system, that would climb to 10,000/1000 lbs. In other words, the hitch will have more towing capacity than the van, although you'll be limited to the actual capacity of the van. The...

  • Heavy Gauge Wiring For Lighting Functions on Trailer
The 4 pole wiring harnesses we offer for trailers are pretty consistent when it comes to the wire gauge. The right turn/brake, left turn/brake and running lamp circuit wires are typically 18 gauge and the ground wire is typically 16 gauge. This is pretty much industry standard. However, the Hopkins Easy-Pull harness, part # HM38136 has a design that will eliminate the typical failure point of a 4 pole trailer harness, which is the point where the harness meets the plug. The plug features...

  • Is LED Marker/Clearance/ID Light # MCL19AB Submersible for Use on a Boat Trailer
Yes, you can submerge the LED Marker/Clearance/ID Light # MCL19AB. If you see that a light is sealed that means that water cannot get in. This is pretty much only on LED lights since they are much easier to seal up than incandescent systems. The wiring on the trailer would be the limiting factor. I recommend using heat shrink tubing # DW05452 to get a water-tight seal. And before using the heat shrink I would coat the wires splices in liquid electrical tape, # SWC50122.

  • Availability of 7-1/2 Inch Oval Trailer Taillights With Separate Brake Lamp and Turn Signal Circuits
We don't offer a 7-1/2 inch oval taillight that's compatible with a 'separate' taillight system. Everything we offer is designed for a typical combined system that carries the brake lamp and turn signal on the same circuit. It could be possible to wire the # STL211XRFHB as a separate system, but the turn signal indicator would be white light which would get you in trouble with the DOT or law enforcement, so I wouldn't recommend doing that. I wouldn't give up on the taillight converter....

  • Protecting Trailer Electrical Connections from Salt Water on a Boat Trailer
What I recommend doing is wrapping electrical connections using heat shrink tubing # DW05452. This will keep on the water and preserve the metal connectors from the light. I also recommend using dielectric grease # LT37534 between electrical connections to repel moisture. I also recommend running a jumper ground from the light ground location somewhere further up on the trailer (at a spot that won't be under water) so that the ground is not affected. If at all possible, rinse the trailer...

  • What Size Heat Shrink Tubing Should be Used with LED Trailer Tail Light STL37RB
You would need the heat shrink tubing for 18 to 14 gauge wire # DW05452 for trailer tail light # STL37RB. On a boat trailer I would not use crimp style connectors like butt connectors because the chance that a wire could pull out due to broken strands is enough of a deterrent for me personally. I would make the splices needed, then use some liquid electrical tape, # SWC50122, and follow that up with the heat shrink tubing. That would ensure a tight, waterproof connection.

  • Wire Gauge for Valterra EZ Valve Electric Waste Valve for RV Black Water Tank, # E40-8
The Valterra EZ Valve Electric Waste Valve for RV Black Water Tank, # E40-8 has an 18 gauge wire assembly. We sell wire by the foot if needed, Deka Bonded 3 Wire - 18 Gauge, # DW02923-1. And shrink tubing too, 18-14 Gauge - Black - 1/8" Shrink Diameter - 6" Long, # DW05451 and # DW05452 for red.

  • Length of Wire on Curt 4-Pole # C58345 Trailer Wiring Harness
The wiring harness you mentioned, part # C58345 is 60 inches or 5 feet long. Rather than using the quick connectors provided with the kit I'd recommend soldering the connections and sealing the connection with heat shrink tubing like # DW05452. If you don't solder, we carry heat shrink butt connectors that are almost as good, part # DW05744-5

  • Wiring Harness Diagram and Installation Instructions
Your wiring should be pretty straight forward. The provided video link will walk you right through the installation. One of your lights will have a clear plastic lens on the bottom which will be used with the license plate bracket on the left side (drivers side) of the trailer. This will be hooked up with the wiring, including the yellow and brown wire. On the right side, you will use the green and brown wires to install that light. Your side marker lights will be hooked up with the brown...

  • Is There a Primary Wire Heat-Shrinkable Tubing for Both 12 and 16 Gauge Wire
The heat shrink tubing for a 12 gauge wire is 1/4" diameter like the Primary Wire Heat-Shrinkable Tubing part # DW05448 and the heat shrink tubing for a 16 gauge wire is 1/8" diameter like the Primary Wire Heat-Shrinkable Tubing part # DW05452. There isn't one tubing that will cover both sizes well. I'm not really sure what you're doing but if you'll be attaching three wires together, I would just use 3-way crimp connector which can be obtained locally and heat shrink each of the wires...
