CU857328 Come Up DV Series

The DV-15 is great for heavy-duty recoveries with your fire truck, ambulance, tow truck, or other work truck or commercial vehicle. This durable winch has a sealed contactor, a clutch that shifts easily from free-spool to engaged, and a load-holding brake that prevents unintentional rope payout. The power unit can be remotely mounted, and the clutch handle can be rotated so the winch fits easily into tight spaces. It includes a waterproof, hand-held remote with 17' lead so you can operate it at a safe distance. It also has a built-in overheat sensor that triggers an audible alarm in the power unit if the motor exceeds 212 degrees.

Heavy-Duty, 5.6-Horsepower Motor

DV Series Motor

The DV-15 features a 5.6-horsepower, 12-volt DC motor with 15,000 lbs of line pull. This heavy-duty, series-wound motor is more powerful and more dependable than a permanent magnet motor, and it generates more torque and dispenses heat more efficiently when operating at high speeds. It's constructed of durable, corrosion-resistant materials including the die-cast aluminum housing, steel drum, carbon steel motor tube, copper battery terminals, and carbon- and stainless steel hardware.

Built-In Overheat Sensor

There is a built-in sensor located inside the motor housing that monitors the motor temperature. If the motor exceeds 212 degrees, an audible alarm in the power unit sounds and an LED on the remote glows red. The alarm will turn off when power to the winch has been shut down, and the LED will turn green when the motor has cooled and can be used again.

Power Unit with Sealed Contactor

DV Series Power Unit

The contactor - or solenoid - transmits power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor. The 400-amp contactor - located inside the power unit - is sealed for submersion in water or mud. The copper terminals and stainless steel and carbon steel hardware are corrosion resistant, and the motor leads have rubber boots for water resistance. The cables are color coded and printed with the AWG for easy installation. For convenience - or to better fit in a tight space - the power unit can be removed and mounted remotely with an extended wiring kit (sold separately).

Free-Spooling Clutch with Rotating Handle

DV Series Free-Spooling Clutch with rotating ring gear

The DV-15 has a free-spool clutch with a rotating ring gear that enables you to pull out the rope by hand. This saves battery power, prevents the brake from wearing down prematurely, reduces wear on the motor, and is much faster than waiting for the drum to unroll the rope. To release the clutch for free-spooling simply pull and turn the spring-loaded handle. To reengage the clutch, lift and rotate the handle back to the position indicated by the icon on the label.

The clutch is driven by a hardened-steel, 3-stage planetary gear train. This provides more speed than traditional worm gear drives or 1- or 2-stage planetary gear trains.

The gearbox can be rotated in 36-degree increments so you can reposition the clutch handle to an easy-to-reach location. This is great when mounting foot-forward on custom and in-bumper applications or on a vehicle with a small engine where space is extremely limited.

The rustproof, die-cast aluminum gearbox is sealed to keep out moisture, and it has a gray powder coat finish for corrosion resistance.

Automatic, Load-Holding Cone Brake Structure

DV Series Cone Brake

The automatic CBS (Cone Brake Structure) holds 100 percent of the load without unintentional rope payout (or creep). It has a cone-shaped wheel that presses against the brake clamp when there is a load on the rope. The greater the load on the rope the harder the cone-shaped wheel presses against the clamp. This pressure creates enough friction to slow and ultimately stop the drum's rotation.

The cone brake is located on the outside of the drum so the heat created from friction is kept away from the motor and the rope. This prevents potentially damaging heat buildup near the motor.

Hand-Held Remote with LED

DV Series Hand-Held Remote

A hand-held remote with a 17' lead and In/Out rocker switch lets you control the winch from a safe distance. The remote is constructed of durable plastic, and it's sealed and waterproof so it won't get damaged in wet conditions. It has a built-in LED that turns green when you are powering the rope in or out, turns red to indicate an overheated motor, and turns off when the winch is inactive.

Remote plugged into power unit

There is a rubber-sealed plug on top of the power unit that houses the attachment port for the remote control. Simply plug the durable plastic remote into the power unit when you need to use it, and disconnect it to store it away when you aren't using it. The plug prevents water from getting into the unit when you are not using the wired remote.

There is also a wireless hand-held remote (sold separately) available that lets you operate the winch from up to 90' away.

Wire Rope

Come Up Wire Rope

The wire rope is made of high-strength, aircraft-grade galvanized steel that resists abrasions and is able to withstand harsh UV rays, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.

The rope winds around a solid steel drum. The mounting flanges are strong enough to resist bending or breaking if the rope wrap becomes uneven and excess stress is put on the drum.

A hand-saver strap is included to use in conjunction with work gloves (sold separately) so that you can safely handle the rope and hook. A rock bag (BD500549 - sold separately) is also recommended. The rock bag helps prevent a broken rope from snapping back by forcing it to the ground.

Clevis Hook

The removable clevis hook is made of high-strength forged steel that is heavy duty and rust resistant. It has a spring-loaded safety latch for quick fastening and removal. The hook attaches to the steel thimble on the end of the wire rope.

Roller Fairlead

Come Up Roller Fairlead

The roller fairlead has a thick steel frame with 4 steel rollers. The rollers reduce friction when you're pulling the rope in or paying it out, and they prevent the rope from becoming pinched when pulling at extreme angles. The rollers have a silver-zinc-plated finish that is tough and corrosion resistant. The fairlead installs with zinc-plated hardware.

Note: The roller fairlead does not mount directly to the winch - it typically attaches to tabs on the winch mounting plate (sold separately). ComeUp mounting channels and most aftermarket mounts include these tabs.

Rugged Construction

DV Series Winch Body

The DV-15 winch is constructed of strong, durable materials that perform no matter the weather conditions or terrain. The motor and gearbox housing are constructed of heavy-duty yet lightweight die-cast aluminum. The contactor is sealed to keep water out, and the lightweight, plastic power unit is ideal for mounting in remote locations. The steel tie-bars and side frame drum supports help to create a strong and rigid winch body.

Installation

You will need a suitable mounting location to install the winch on the front of your vehicle. Winch mounts are built into many aftermarket bumpers and grille guards. Alternatively, you can install a universal front-mount plate (sold separately) to create a mounting point for both your winch and fairlead.

Seal Gen2 Winch Body

Note: This winch can only be installed foot-forward.

Use the included wiring to connect the winch to your vehicle's battery. Quick connects (CU881076 - sold separately) are available to make removing and re-installing the winch easy.

Winch Line Pull Capacity

Layers of RopeCapacity (lbs)Total Rope on Drum (ft)
1st Layer15,00018.6
2nd Layer12,27741.4
3rd Layer10,39168.3
4th Layer9,00789

The line pull capacity of your winch is determined by the maximum load your winch can pull with a single layer of rope on the drum. As more layers of rope are wound onto the drum, pulling the same load requires more force, leading to a loss in winching power. With a 2nd layer of rope around the drum, your line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 14 percent. With 3 layers on the drum, the line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 23 percent, and with 4 layers on the drum it is reduced by approximately 35 percent.

Note: It is recommended that you begin any line pull with a minimum of 5 wraps and a maximum of 2 layers of rope on the drum.

Vehicle Recovery and Winch Capacity

To select the appropriate off-road/recovery winch for your application, determine your gross vehicle weight. The GVW is the stand-alone weight of your vehicle plus the weight of any items in and on the vehicle. Once you have determined the GVW of your vehicle, choose a winch with a capacity that is 1-1/2 times your GVW. Using that formula, this winch - with a 15,000-pound capacity - will work for vehicles with an approximate GVW of 10,000 pounds.

Rolling Load Winch Capacity

Percent InclineRolling Load Capacity (lbs)
Level Surface150,000
5 (3°)100,050
10 (6°)75,300
20 (11°)51,000
30 (17°)39,150
50 (26°)27,900
70 (35°)22,950
100 (45°)19,350
rolling load

To calculate your winch's rolling load capacity - the amount of weight it can pull up an incline - you must multiply the line pull capacity by a factor determined by the degree of the incline.

The multiplication factors shown in the chart, right, include a 10-percent rolling friction factor.

Note: A 5-percent - or 3-degree - incline is a 1/2' rise over a 10' distance. Follow the chart to determine your winch's rolling load capacity.

Double-Line Pulling

Double-Line Pulling

Increase the pulling capacity of your winch by doubling up the rope with a pulley block (CU881082 - sold separately). Secure the pulley block to a tree saver strap (CU881091 - sold separately) with a bow shackle (CU881092 - sold separately) to provide a strong anchor for your double-line pull. Or use the 8-piece rigging kit (CU882068- sold separately) that includes everything you need for heavy duty recovery. Using double-line operation will approximately double your winch's pulling capacity.

Video Transcript for ComeUp Electric Winch - Truck Winch - CU857328 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number CU857328. This is the ComeUp DV15 Winch with the wire up design. It's going to offer fast, powerful and high efficiency performance. It's going to have a single line pull rating of 15,000 pounds. It's also going to have the heavy duty seal contacter. It's going to contain silver alloy contact pads, thick copper bust bars and a submersible construction to ensure weather resistance.

We're also going to have the heavy duty series wound motor that's going to deliver superior torque output as well as a faster line speed. Now the braking mechanism on the unit's going to be an automatic full-load CBS system. CBS stands for Cone Brake Structure. The braking mechanism is mounted outside the drum rather than inside the drum and that's going to help disperse heat quicker. The winch is going to feature tough aluminum die-cast housings. It's also going to contain a steel drum.

It's going to come with your industrial grade waterproof remote control. It's going to feature a thermo-metric LED indicator on the switch. It's going to automatically alert when the motor is on the verge of overheating. You're going to have about 17 feet of cord, nice handheld design with finger indentions. You're going to have the wrist strap, as well as the side walls to help protect the toggle switch right there. Now again, it's going to have the 15,000 pound rated single line pull.

At max load it's going to have a line speed of 2.5 feet per minute with a power draw of 460 amps at 12 volts. With no load it has a line speed of 22 feet per minute with a power draw of 60 amps at 12 volts. The motor's going to be a 5.6 horsepower 12 volt series inaudible 00:01:35 motor. On this side we're going to have the clutch. We're going to have the ergonomic T-handle.

This is going to engage the free spool clutch through multiple, evenly spaced locking holes for rapid rote payout. Right now it's engaged. All you have to do is lift it up, give it a twist. That's going to move it to a disengaged position. It's going to allow you to grab the end of the rope and pull it out to quickly hook up to your load or anchor point. It allows a free spool option. Now, another neat feature about the clutch is that the clutch can be rotated to reposition the T-handle in multiple locations that would work best for the application. The process on how to do that is located in the included instructions. All the necessary wiring and hardware's going to be included. All the wiring's going to be color coded as well as . You can see it has the white, blue and yellow bands, black wire and red wire's going to be your battery leads, but it's going to be color coded as well as letter and number coded. Those wires are going to connect different posts here on the motor housing and those are all going to be labeled, so you simply just match them up, which makes the installation and getting everything connected a little bit easier, but all your wiring and hardware's included. Now when mounting it's important to mount the winch on a flat and hard surface or mounting bracket. The winch is going to contain a rugged, 3-stage planetary gear system for maximum mechanical advantage. It's going to feature a gear ratio of 315 to 1. You're going to get your roller fair lead. Your wire roof's going to come out in between here once it's fully installed and then as you extend the rope out or bring it back in, it's going to make contact with these areas right here and when it does, those are going to roll, which is going to reduce the amount of friction applied to the wire rope, which overall is going to extend the life of the rope. The drum size on the winch is going to be 3 1/2 inches in diameter by 8.1 inches long. It's going to use a 6 by 29 IWRC. That's Independent Wire Rope Center. When it comes to that wire rope, very strong and durable. It's going to measure 7/16 of an inch in diameter by 89 feet long. It's going to come with the forged steel hook. That's going to connect to the end of the wire rope. It's got the spring loaded safety latch mechanism on there to prevent accidental disconnecting. It's going to connect to the end of the wire rope with the included pen and clip, and it's going to come with your hand saver strap. Now on the bottom of the winch, going to be the mounting bolt pattern. You can see that there. We're going to have 2 holes here, 2 holes here and it's going to be mirrored on the other side. Center on center going this direction those holes are going to be separated by 10 inches and then front to back to the 2 closest holes that's going to be centered apart from one another or separated apart from one another on center by 4 1/2 inches and then those outermost holes are going to be separated apart from one another by 6 1/2 inches. The winch itself is going to weigh around 125 pounds. We're looking at about 26 inches long by 8 1/2 inches wide. That's front to back and then from bottom to top of the T-handle, looking at about 9 inches. Then from bottom to top of the box, that's going to measure about 12 inches tall. That's going to do it for today's look at part number CU857328.

It came on time and was packaged great. I am using the winch to load my race cars into my enclosed trailer. It is working very well. It is slow enough to make loading safe but fast enough to not take all day. I am very pleased.

Comments
It is a little over a year now of using my winch to load my cars. It is still working great. I have had only one issue that I think I caused, since it has never happened again.

This has been a great winch. We use it hard almost every day loading portable buildings. My only issues 1) I was led to believe it came with a remote control, it didn't 2) the hard wired control is giving us problems starting and stopping the winch.

Package arrived in a box which was certainly not designed to protect the product; it arrived in tatters. I have yet to put the product together but it looks good. Price was fair and delivery time was very good. Pat and Molly were very helpful!
