CU856333 Come Up DV Series

The DV-9 is great for heavy-duty recoveries with your work truck, Jeep, or other off-road vehicle. This durable winch has a sealed contactor, a clutch that shifts easily from free-spool to engaged, and a load-holding brake that prevents unintentional rope payout. The power unit can be remotely mounted and the clutch handle can be rotated so the winch fits easily into tight spaces. It includes a waterproof, hand-held remote with 17' lead so you can operate it at a safe distance. It also has a built-in overheat sensor that triggers an audible alarm in the power unit if the motor exceeds 212 degrees.

Heavy-Duty, 4.6-Horsepower Motor

DV Series Motor

The DV-9 features a 4.6-horsepower, 12-volt DC motor with 9,000 lbs of line pull. This heavy-duty, series-wound motor is more powerful and more dependable than a permanent magnet motor, and it generates more torque and dispenses heat more efficiently when operating at high speeds. It's constructed of durable, corrosion-resistant materials including the die-cast aluminum housing, steel drum, carbon steel motor tube, copper battery terminals, and carbon- and stainless steel hardware.

Built-In Overheat Sensor

There is a built-in sensor located inside the motor housing that monitors the motor temperature. If the motor exceeds 212 degrees, an audible alarm in the power unit sounds and an LED on the remote glows red. The alarm will turn off when power to the winch has been shut down, and the LED will turn green when the motor has cooled and can be used again.

Power Unit with Sealed Contactor

DV Series Power Unit

The contactor - or solenoid - transmits power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor. The 400-amp contactor - located inside the power unit - is sealed for submersion in water or mud. The copper terminals and stainless steel and carbon steel hardware are corrosion resistant, and the motor leads have rubber boots for water resistance. The cables are color coded and printed with the AWG for easy installation. For convenience - or to better fit in a tight space - the power unit can be removed and mounted remotely with an extended wiring kit (sold separately).

Free-Spooling Clutch with Rotating Handle

DV Series Free-Spooling Clutch with rotating ring gear

The DV-9 has a free-spool clutch with a rotating ring gear that enables you to pull out the rope by hand. This saves battery power, prevents the brake from wearing down prematurely, reduces wear on the motor, and is much faster than waiting for the drum to unroll the rope. To release the clutch for free-spooling simply pull and turn the spring-loaded handle. To reengage the clutch, lift and rotate the handle back to the position indicated by the icon on the label.

The clutch is driven by a hardened-steel, 3-stage planetary gear train. This provides more speed than traditional worm gear drives or 1- or 2-stage planetary gear trains.

The gearbox can be rotated in 36-degree increments so you can reposition the clutch handle to an easy-to-reach location. This is great when mounting foot-forward on custom and in-bumper applications or on a vehicle with a small engine where space is extremely limited.

The rustproof, die-cast aluminum gearbox is sealed to keep out moisture, and it has a gray powder coat finish for corrosion resistance.

Automatic, Load-Holding Cone Brake Structure

DV Series Cone Brake

The automatic CBS (Cone Brake Structure) holds 100 percent of the load without unintentional rope payout (or creep). It has a cone-shaped wheel that presses against the brake clamp when there is a load on the rope. The greater the load on the rope the harder the cone-shaped wheel presses against the clamp. This pressure creates enough friction to slow and ultimately stop the drum's rotation.

The cone brake is located on the outside of the drum so the heat created from friction is kept away from the motor and the rope. This prevents potentially damaging heat buildup near the motor.

Hand-Held Remote with LED

DV Series Hand-Held Remote

A hand-held remote with a 17' lead and In/Out rocker switch lets you control the winch from a safe distance. The remote is constructed of durable plastic, and it's sealed and waterproof so it won't get damaged in wet conditions. It has a built-in LED that turns green when you are powering the rope in or out, turns red to indicate an overheated motor, and turns off when the winch is inactive.

Remote plugged into power unit

There is a rubber-sealed plug on top of the power unit that houses the attachment port for the remote control. Simply plug the durable plastic remote into the power unit when you need to use it, and disconnect it to store it away when you aren't using it. The plug prevents water from getting into the unit when you are not using the wired remote.

There is also a wireless hand-held remote (sold separately) available that lets you operate the winch from up to 90' away.

Wire Rope

Come Up Wire Rope

The wire rope is made of high-strength, aircraft-grade galvanized steel that resists abrasions and is able to withstand harsh UV rays, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.

The rope winds around a solid steel drum. The mounting flanges are strong enough to resist bending or breaking if the rope wrap becomes uneven and excess stress is put on the drum.

A hand-saver strap is included to use in conjunction with work gloves (sold separately) so that you can safely handle the rope and hook. A rock bag (BD500549 - sold separately) is also recommended. The rock bag helps prevent a broken rope from snapping back by forcing it to the ground.

Clevis Hook

The removable clevis hook is made of high-strength forged steel that is heavy duty and rust resistant. It has a spring-loaded safety latch for quick fastening and removal. The hook attaches to the steel thimble on the end of the synthetic rope.

Roller Fairlead

Come Up Roller Fairlead

The roller fairlead has a thick steel frame with 4 steel rollers. The rollers reduce friction when you're pulling the rope in or paying it out, and they prevent the rope from becoming pinched when pulling at extreme angles. It has a black powder coat finish and zinc-plated rollers that are tough and corrosion resistant. The fairlead installs with the included steel hardware.

Note: The roller fairlead does not mount directly to the winch - it typically attaches to tabs on the winch mounting plate that bolts to your bumper (sold separately) or grille guard (sold separately). ComeUp mounting channels and most aftermarket mounts include these tabs.

Rugged Construction

DV Series Winch Body

The DV-9 winch is constructed of strong, durable materials that perform no matter the weather conditions or terrain. The motor and gearbox housing are constructed of heavy-duty yet lightweight die-cast aluminum. The contactor is sealed to keep water out, and the lightweight, plastic power unit is ideal for mounting in remote locations. The steel tie-bars and side frame drum supports help to create a strong and rigid winch body.

You will need a suitable mounting location to install the winch on the front of your vehicle. Winch mounts are built into many aftermarket bumpers and grille guards. Alternatively, you can install a universal front-mount plate (sold separately) to create a mounting point for both your winch and fairlead.

Seal Gen2 Winch Body

Use the included wiring to connect the winch to your vehicle's battery. Quick connects (CU881076 - sold separately) are available to make removing and re-installing the winch easy.

Winch Line Pull Capacity

Layers of RopeCapacity (lbs)Total Rope on Drum (ft)
1st Layer9,00020
2nd Layer7,31044.7
3rd Layer6,15474
4th Layer5,314100

The line pull capacity of your winch is determined by the maximum load your winch can pull with a single layer of rope on the drum. As more layers of rope are wound onto the drum, pulling the same load requires more force, leading to a loss in winching power. With a 2nd layer of rope around the drum, your line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 14 percent. With 3 layers on the drum, the line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 23 percent, and with 4 layers on the drum it is reduced by approximately 35 percent.

Note: It is recommended that you begin any line pull with a minimum of 5 wraps and a maximum of 2 layers of rope on the drum.

Vehicle Recovery and Winch Capacity

To select the appropriate off-road/recovery winch for your application, determine your gross vehicle weight. The GVW is the stand-alone weight of your vehicle plus the weight of any items in and on the vehicle. Once you have determined the GVW of your vehicle, choose a winch with a capacity that is 1-1/2 times your GVW. Using that formula, this winch - with a 9,000-pound capacity - will work for vehicles with an approximate GVW of 6,000 pounds.

Rolling Load Winch Capacity

50 (26°)16,740
70 (35°)13,770
100 (45°)11,610
rolling load

To calculate your winch's rolling load capacity - the amount of weight it can pull up an incline - you must multiply the line pull capacity by a factor determined by the degree of the incline.

The multiplication factors shown in the chart, right, include a 10-percent rolling friction factor.

Note: A 5-percent - or 3-degree - incline is a 1/2' rise over a 10' distance. Follow the chart to determine your winch's rolling load capacity.

Double-Line Pulling

Double-Line Pulling

Increase the pulling capacity of your winch by doubling up the rope with a pulley block (CU881079 - sold separately). Secure the pulley block to a tree saver strap (CU881662 - sold separately) with a bow shackle (CU881092 - sold separately) to provide a strong anchor for your double-line pull. Or use the 8-piece rigging kit (CU882068- sold separately) that includes everything you need for heavy duty recovery. Using double-line operation will approximately double your winch's pulling capacity.

Video Transcript for ComeUp Electric Winch - Truck Winch - CU856333 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Part Number: CU56333. This is the ComeUp DV-9 winch. It's going to have the wire rope. It's going to feature a single line pull of 9,000 pounds. It's also going to have the heavy duty sealed contactor. That's going to contain silver alloy contact pads, thick copper bus bars in a submersible construction to insure whether resistance. The heavy duty series wound motor is going to deliver superior torque output as well as a faster line speed.

Then the braking system on the unit is an automatic full load CBS. CBS stands for Cone Brake Structure. The braking mechanism is mounted outside the drum rather than inside the drum. That's going to help disperse heat quicker. We're also going to have tough aluminum alloy housings. We're going to have an aluminum die cast housing with a steel drum.

The winch is very strong, very durable. It's going to come with the industrial grade waterproof remote. It's going to feature a thermoplastic LED indicator on the switch so that way it'll automatically alert you when the motor is overheating. It's going to have the wrist tether right there and you're going to have about 17' of cord. That way you can operate the in and out functions of the winch from a safe distance. Got the easy to use toggle switch right there and the plug is going to plug directly here on top of the box.

That connection point is going to have a weather resistant dust cap on it so when it's not being used it's going to protect that connection point. Now again this does have the 9,000 pound rated single line pull. At max load, the winch is going to have a line speed of 6.4' per minute with a power draw of 350 amps at 12 volts. With no load it's going to have a line speed of 44' per minute with the power draw of 55 amps at 12 volts. The motor is a 4.6 horsepower 12 volt series wound motor. On this side we're going to have our clutch mechanism.

We're going to have the ergonomic T-handle. This is going to engage the free spool clutch through multiple evenly spaced locking holes. Now one of the neat things about this unit is that the entire mechanism over here, the clutch mechanism, this can be rotated to reposition the T-handle in multiple locations. That way it could work best for your particular setup and application. Right now it's in the engaged position. That means that we're ready to winch using our remote. We can lift this up and rotate it. That's going to move it to a disengaged position which is going to allow our wire rope to go into a free spool mode so we can grab the rope, extend it quickly to connect to our load or to or anchor point. It's going to come with the heavy duty forged steel construction hook with the pin and clip. That's going to attach to the end of the wire rope and it's going to have the hand saver strap on there. All the necessary wiring and hardware is included. Now keep in mind when mounting our winch, you want to do so on a flat, solid surface or use a mounting channel that's not included. The roller fairlead is designed to be mounted to a separate mounting surface. It does not get mounted directly to the winch. The instructions will walk you though the entire installation process as well as the wiring. You can see all the wiring is included that you need, all the hardware is included that you need, and the instructions are pretty detailed. They're going to walk you though that process. It's also going to feature a rugged and quiet 3 stage planetary gear system for maximum mechanical advantage. It's going to feature a gear ratio of 156:1. It does come with your roller fairlead. This is going to get mounted directly in front of the winch and then your wire up is going to run through the fairlead and then you're going to connect your hook and everything to it. What that does is as you extend the wire rope out or as you bring it back into the winch, anytime it makes contact with one of these rollers, that's going to roll which is going to reduce the friction applied to the wire rope which is going to help extend the life of the rope itself. The drum size on this winch is going to be 2-1/2". When it comes to the diameter it's going to give us an overall length of 9". It's going to feature the A7 x 19 aircraft grade galvanized wire rope. That's going to measure 21/64" in diameter. It's going to give you an overall length of 100' to work with. Now on the bottom of the winch we're going to notice that it has 4 mounting holes. Separation inaudible 04:42 between between this one and this one is going to measure 10". Then from front to back inaudible 04:46 it's going to be 4-1/2". The winch itself is going to weigh about 72 to 73 pounds with the wire rope installed. It's going to measure about 23.7" long, front to back it's going to measure about 6.3" wide, and the overall height from bottom to the top of the handle is going to be about 7.1" tall. I don't include the measurement with the box on here. I don't include the box in that measurement because the box has a couple different ways it can attach. You can use the provided clamps to attach it to the motor like I have here today. I have a separate contactor that way you can easily what I'm talking about here. You're also going to have these mounting channels here on the back. That's going to allow these bolts to slide in there which is going to provide another mounting option for you. The hardware for that other option is included. I just wanted to show that to you, but the overall height without that box is going to be about 17.1" tall. That's going to do it for today's look at Part Number: CU856333.

Has worked perfectly. No issues after pulling my track cars onto my trailer around 75 times. I do notice fraying of the rope... Will probably need replacement pretty soon. Without the rope fray I would give it 5 stars.

Install is fairly easy, small area to work with when bolting in. I decided to use 4 bolts vs. 2. If you do the 2 bolt it is quick and easy. Wiring it up, piece of cake. Works well, love the clutch to unwind. Worth it!

It came on time and was packaged great. I am using the winch to load my race cars into my enclosed trailer. It is working very well. It is slow enough to make loading safe but fast enough to not take all day. I am very pleased.

It is a little over a year now of using my winch to load my cars. It is still working great. I have had only one issue that I think I caused, since it has never happened again.

This has been a great winch. We use it hard almost every day loading portable buildings. My only issues 1) I was led to believe it came with a remote control, it didn't 2) the hard wired control is giving us problems starting and stopping the winch.

  • Does ComeUp DV-9 Off-Road Winch Work with 24V Power
To operate one of the ComeUp DV-9 Off-Road Winches, like the part # CU856333 that you asked about, you'll need a 12V power supply. It doesn't look like there are any 24V winch options even from other manufacturers. Once you have a 12V power supply you can use the Go Power Eco Solar Charging System # 34273836 to keep the battery topped off for when you need to use the winch.
