Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area. You will have to remove the trunk floor coverings, rear scuff panel, and felt liner to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - C56339 Review

Today, we're going to take a look at the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector. This is a custom-fit part. It is designed to fit the 201m6 and newer Nissan Altima sedans. On a custom-fit part, I always like to recommend to go to our website, use our fit guide. Put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if these will work for your application. This part will provide this 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights.

It's compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters that we do sell separately. All this does connect very quickly and easily. Basically, you just locate your connection points, which are in the rear cargo area behind the tail lights. Plug in these T-connectors, one on the driver's side and one on the passenger side. Ground your white wire here. Then you'll have this separate power wire that you'll run to your vehicle's battery.

This does include the tail light converter. This is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. It is a powered module. That's why you'll connect this power wire to your vehicle's battery. The reason they do that is to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. This converter is constructed using SMT or Surface Mount Technology.

It gives you a nice, consistent, reliable performance. It helps maximize your trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat, and it ensures superior operation in rough road conditions. Also comes with this nice rubber dust cap for your 4-way. What's nice about that is you can just attach it to the 4-way plug. Then, when you're not plugged into your trailer, you just put your 4-way dust cap over the terminals, and that will protect them from any damage or from the elements.

These parts are made in the USA. A few specs on this, on maximum amperage for the stop and turn light circuits is 3 amps per circuit. For the tail light circuit, it's 6 amps. Just to go over how this installs briefly, just to give you an idea of where all these parts go, what you'll want to do is, again, it gives you a nice set of detailed instructions that will describe how to install everything and even give you pictures of where your connections are. Basically, what you'll do is start at the rear again. Access your rear cargo area. You'll want to start probably on the driver's side. You'll take this T-connector that has the yellow wire in it. That's the driver's side. You'll find your connectors behind the tail light. Unplug the harness, and then these will T into that. You'll have this white wire with the eyelet on it. That, you want to connect to a good, clean ground, if there's one nearby. If not, they give you a grounding screw that you can make your own ground. Then you'll take the other T-connector with the green wire. That's for the passenger side, and you'll run this length of wire over to the passenger side. Do the same behind the tail light. Plug this in. Once those are all plugged in, what you want to do is, your converter here, you do want to attach this to a surface so it doesn't bounce around. They do give you a piece of double-face tape that you can attach it down with. Then you have your last black wire, which is your power wire. This is what needs to run up to the front of the vehicle, to your vehicle's battery. They give you this extra length of wire to do that. Then you'll take one of your butt connectors, put it on that power wire coming out of the converter, put it on this length of wire and then run it all the way up to the front. Once you get to the front, you'll take your other end. You don't want to connect it directly to the battery. You want to run it to the inline fuse holder. You take your other butt connector, put it on this end, attach it to one side of your fuse connector just like that. Then your other side of your fuse connector, you have this eyelet they include. You put that on there, and this will connect to your vehicle's battery. Once that's all connected, pop open your fuse holder. They include your 10-amp fuse. Push it into place. Put your cap back on there, and you'll be all ready to go. Now, they do include some cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring. That should do it for the review of the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector.

Looks like a good quick way to wire the trailer plug to our car.only one I could find to fit our new car a 2023 Altima the rest only went to the 2022 model. It was a quick and easy way to order

the hitch itself was easy to install. the wiring not so much. needed a better video on how to install the wiring. also it wasn't long enough and we had to purchase more from a local auto parts store.

however, all in all i would definitely recommend the hitch!

I bought a 2017 Altima and wanted to be able to tow a small trailer. Reading a bit about new cars and the low power needed for the LED lights used on the vehicle, I chose not to tap into the wiring harness as the only means of supplying power to the trailer. The C56339 Curt wiring harness has the same style molex connectors as the vehicle and made the splice as simple as unplug-plug-n-play. There was ample wire supplied to make the connection at the battery. The plastic rocker panels on my vehicle were used to route the wire from rear to front. Weatherproof fuse holder gave another level of comfort with this product. The instructions provided a clear means of avoiding any confusion about the wiring and were vehicle specific about how to locate the connectors. Not a hiccup in the year that this has been on my vehicle.

A good product! This is the second hitch I have installed using etrailer and it went as well as the first. Not being a super skilled Tech it took longer than expected, but for me it was a project that needed to be done, and I enjoy a good project when it comes together, no matter if it took a little longer due to an average person's tool inventory and simple jack stands and floor jacks. The instruction videos are the best I have seen as of yet. If you enjoy working with your hands, I recommend etrailer products!

  • Does Power Wire of Curt T-Connector Need to Connect to Battery if Trailer Uses LED Lights
Yes, you would indeed. The Curt # C56339 wiring harness won't function unless that power wire is installed to the positive battery terminal. Obtaining the power directly from the battery makes for a more reliable connection. It also serves to help isolate the vehicle's sophisticated and expensive to repair wiring from any short circuits that could occur in the trailer wiring.
