Some trailers still use older incandescent lights that draw more power than modern vehicle wiring can handle. This harness solves that by using a powered converter that draws power directly from the battery through an inline 10-amp fuse. It keeps the trailer lights from overloading or shorting out your vehicle’s tail light circuits, protecting your wiring and electronics no matter what kind of trailer lighting you use.
Wiring a trailer doesn’t have to mean cutting or splicing factory wires. The Curt T-Connector plugs in behind the tail lights using OEM-style connectors, making installation clean and direct. The harness gives you a 4-flat connector ready for running lights, turn signals, and brake lights, all while keeping the vehicle’s wiring intact.
By running a single power wire to the positive battery post through the included fuse holder, the harness provides a dedicated, stable power source just for the trailer lights. That steady feed helps prevent flickering or weak signals and protects the system from voltage drop that can happen when pulling power through the tail light circuits.
The converter box is designed to handle the current draw from both LED and incandescent trailer lights and isolate the vehicle’s wiring from potential shorts on the trailer. Even if the trailer wiring has corrosion or a bad ground, the harness’s own fuse will blow first, saving the vehicle’s fuses and electronics from damage.
Once installed, the 4-flat connector covers all the basic trailer lighting functions—running lights, left and right turn signals, and brake lights. Just installed the Curt hitch on my wifes 2001 PT Cruiser. Started that job on Saturday, then took a break, intending to finish it after watching the Jacksonville Jaguars-SF 49ers game from London. After watching the early part and realizing the Jags were going to get badly waxed AGAIN, I was feeling depressed, so I DVRd the rest and headed for the garage to work on the hitch. Completed the installation, having never installed a hitch before. It worked like a champ, I was satisfied, and my depression left me. Unfortunately, it appears Ill need an every weekend project to complete as long as the Jags are playing this season.Im now rehearsing what needs to be done in the wiring harness arena. Sounds like I can handle that also. Thanks for the encouraging comments.
