Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the etrailer Easy Carry Trailer Ramps

Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at these aluminum car hauler ramps. These are gonna be really nice ramps that come in pairs to load up your equipment on your trailer, whether it be something smaller like an ATV or something bigger like a car if you need to. Now with us, you'll notice there's three different lengths, and that's because you've got different options for the sizes. There's a six foot, five foot and four foot.

Like I mentioned, they come in pairs and the only way they're gonna differ is that length. So we wanna show you what all three of those different lengths look like today so you can make the right decision for you and your trailer. Let's check 'em out. Now, why would you go with a longer ramp Well, hopefully this angle is going to show you why. The four foot one, closest to you, and the six foot long, closest to me, have much different angles in it.

That's what it comes down to is that angle of approach. With your trailer sitting high off the ground, the shorter ramp's gonna just make for a steeper angle. And for vehicles with lower clearance, that's an issue because you might find that you scrape or just don't work at all. On our ATV, we're gonna be fine because we've got good ground clearance and pretty good tread. So a steeper angle, although it might feel a little uncomfortable, it'll probably be fine.

But for a trailer that sits taller, I would definitely opt for one of the longer ramps, especially for a car that maybe doesn't have as good of ground clearance. On the flip side of that, if you've got a low to the ground trailer or a ground clearance isn't a concern, then yeah, go with the shorter set because it's gonna be easier to store and less to carry around with you. So it really just comes down to you and your needs. Finding the right length will make life easier for you or make it harder if you do choose a set of ramps that's a little too short. Now before we start using these ramps and showing you what that looks like, let's talk about a few specs.

Now, the ramp's going to have this hooked end that will hook into a lip on your trailer, help lock it in, and it does come with a pair of straps to secure them to the trailer, pulling them down and in. We'll set those up in just a second. As far as the size and weight capacity goes, we already mentioned the length four, five and six feet, but the width will remain the same for all of them, 14 and a half inches, so pretty wide. And there's a good side rail on the other side, so as you're loading up, if you do happen to drift to the side a little bit, it'll hit that sidewall and you shouldn't have to worry about just going off the ramp entirely. And then the weight capacity, they can handle 3000 pounds each. That's gonna be 6,000 pounds when paired together. So keep that in mind if you are using this to load up some cars, that you don't load up too heavy of a car. Here's what those loading straps I mentioned look like. You get a pair of them and there's gonna be a soft loop on either end of the strap that'll feed through itself and wrap around one of those bars. And then, on the cam buckle strap, there's gonna be a fixed hook. I'm gonna just anchor that to some point on the trailer that's secure, and then I can tighten up the strap underneath to basically anchor the ramp. So the first pair of ramps we wanted to test were the four foot ramps, because they're the shortest, they're gonna be the steepest, and I wanted to see how it felt with the trailer of this height. (engine rumbling) It definitely feels steep. On the ATV, you feel like you're going up a really steep ramp, and I would definitely want something longer for this. As far as clearance went, we we inchesre fine. We weren't scraping on anything. But from a comfort standpoint and just feeling safe on the ramp standpoint, I would want something longer just because it's gonna make the experience a little bit better overall and it's gonna make it easier to get grip going up. I will say though, that the tread and the lips that are built into here on the tracks did perform really well. We didn't experience any slipping over here. So if these ramps can perform in these harsher conditions, expect that the longer ones with a more shallow angle of approach should be just as fine, if not better. To move to set up the next set of ramps, I do actually wanna talk about one of the unique features these have, and that's gonna be the storage latches. There's two on each side. You can set these ramps up next to one another, throw that latch. If you need to, you can twist it to tighten it up a little bit, and that'll allow you to pick this up and carry it around. And the built-in carrying handles on the side make it that much easier to carry around because it moves as one unit and the fact that it's aluminum makes it pretty lightweight. Now, this is the smallest set, so it's gonna have the least amount of material there, but even the six foot ones, I didn't have any problem moving earlier. And again, the handles make it so much easier and the fact that I can move them together makes the process of setting these up a lot quicker and easier. Now moving on to testing the five foot ramps. (engine rumbling) In our case today, it felt a lot better and I did notice a big difference, and it really was just down to the feeling, especially on the descent with the ATV. Things felt a lot less steep, and in turn, I felt a lot more safe just because that angle of approach was a lot more shallow and not as aggressive. As far as getting on and off the ramps goes, I'd say the ATV handled it equally well. It was really just down to the feeling and comfort level that I had with this particular vehicle on the ramps. We saved the six foot ramps for testing last. (engine rumbling) It just felt really great, especially when compared to the other options. Now, that's not to say they're bad, they all performed really well as far as grip and smoothness went. But for this particular trailer, I could just tell these are the right sized ramps for the trailer because that ascent up felt incredibly smooth. It really didn't feel like I was going up that much of an incline at all. And then again, with the descent, I just felt a lot safer and less off balance, and I could just tell that the weight of the ATV was where it should have been. So for me, after testing all three, I would definitely go with the longer ones. And I'd say just in general, that's not a bad idea. You just have to find the space for 'em. But if you had the need for it, then don't be shy, definitely get the ones that are a bit longer because they are gonna make the job easier. Overall, I think these are a really solid option. Some of the things I like about 'em, they're heavy duty. They've got a great weight capacity. The tread on here worked really well. I like how wide they are. I'd say any narrower and I wouldn't like it as much. But I think most of all, I really enjoy the fact that they latch together and have a carrying handle. I can't tell you enough how much easier transporting it is because of the handle and the fact that they're one solid unit. Now, even though the bigger ones are heavier, I still find it very manageable. If anything, more manageable than a lighter ramp would be if it didn't have that latching mechanism or a handle. Just the fact that it has the handle makes it easier to manage. But like I said before, if you're considering these, it comes down to you and your needs. If you have the need for a longer ramp, then the option is there. If you have a lower to the ground trailer and can get away with the shorter ramps, then that's good too. But also know that there's other options out there. These are intended for cars, heavier vehicles, that's why they have the heavy weight capacity.
