rv power center

This RV power control center combines an AC/DC panel with a smart converter charger. Creating easy access to your electrical connections, this all-in-one breaker box distributes AC and DC loads to your RV and charges your batteries while connected to shore power. The integrated converter charger also uses the Charge Wizard to help extend battery life.

AC/DC Electrical Distribution

internal view

The panel supplies AC and DC distribution to your RV's electrical system. The AC section has space for 2 breakers rated for 120V at 30 amps. This lets you have up to 4 branch circuits when you use tandem breakers. The DC section has 6 branch fuse holders capable of using (1) 40 amp and (6) 30 amp fuses. However, you will need to purchase AC breakers and DC fuses separately to complete the installation.

inside cover

Once all of your connections are made, the breakers and fuses are easily accessible by opening the door on the front of the box. The door also includes a blank label to list all of the connections.

Multifunctional Converter Charger

The integrated converter charger changes AC shore power into DC power to charge your battery bank. It includes an output mode switch that lets you choose either lithium or lead acid batteries. No matter what type of battery is installed in your RV, you'll always have the most efficient charging profile. If your RV already has a stock converter charger, it will need to be removed to ensure this unit operates properly.

Charging Profile Designed for Lithium Batteries

In lithium mode, the unit uses a higher output voltage, which provides a fast, complete charge. It also extends battery life since it utilizes the appropriate charging profile. Additionally, this mode is compatible with your battery's internal Battery Management System (BMS), which helps manage the charge cycle by monitoring the battery state and balancing cell voltage.

Charge Wizard for Lead Acid Batteries

In lead acid mode, the Charge Wizard automatically switches voltages while your lead acid battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. This function is compatible with flooded lead acid, AGM, and gel batteries.

Charging Modes

  1. Boost: This mode charges at the full rated load for a quicker recharge time. This is where most of the charging happens. It charges the battery up to 90% of the full capacity.
  2. Normal: This mode provides controlled voltage to ensure a full charge. Once the battery begins to reach capacity, the normal state will kick in and reduce the voltage to safely complete the charge.
  3. Storage: Once the battery reaches full charge and remains unused for 30 hours, this mode maintains a lower voltage to compensate for self-discharge. This reduces battery stress and minimizes gassing and water loss.
  4. Equalization: This mode activates to prevent stratification and sulfate buildup during extended storage cycles. These two issues can damage a battery by causing the accumulation of acid at the bottom of the battery and hardened sulfate crystals on the battery plates. This mode is especially helpful when your battery is going unused during storage.

Safety Features

internal view

The system includes a number of safety features. It has a reverse polarity protection that will protect the converter if the battery is hooked up incorrectly. Additionally, the unit includes protection for overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent, which can damage your equipment, as well as the converter. The built-in cooling fan also removes excess heat from the unit. The fan speed is proportional to the internal temperature of the converter, so when the power demand is low, the fan will operate quietly.

I had my son-in-law who is an electrician install the converter. The converter is working good and the battery charge was really good. I believe that the water pump pressure was the best I had in a long time which indicates how well the battery is charged. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that I think that a better manual could of come with the converter. When I connected the battery there was a green flashing light that I didn't know what it meant but after an internet search I found out what it meant. E-trailer was great to deal with, fast service and answered my questions quickly,

The converter and charger is working very well and I like how I dont have to watch how well the battery is charged

There is obviously a manufacturing issue with the circuit board of the PD4135 converter charger. When I received the first one that I had ordered, I went to switch the converter to lithium battery operation, and noticed that the bottom pin of switch S1 was not soldered to the circuit board pad. E-trailer promptly sent me a replacement converter which I received today. The first thing I did was to check the solder on switch S1. The picture shows the switch in the condition received (exact same issue). I will be looking at a different solution for my converter/charger needs.

So far I think this unit is perfect for my cargo trailer conversion. It was simple to install and for the money you can hardly build something similar. I took off one star however since the S1 switch for Lithium battery charging was not properly soldered to the board (one leg had detached). I was able to fix it easily enough but not everyone is comfortable soldering surface mount components on a PCB.

All wired in and seems to be a great product. Installing was pretty simple if you have any clue about electrical. Make sure you look at the install directions on the product page. The ones with the unit aren’t real good. Would have given 5 stars, but this transaction with etrailer was the worst I’ve had. Typically receive orders in 2-3 days. It took 2 weeks to the day to get this one. It posted shipped the day I ordered. A week later 2 phone calls and an email it finally showed up in their local post office.

Since I just finished installing this converter late today, I don't have any operational history on which to rate it, thus the Average rating. I do have a couple comments about the product itself. 1.I believe the PD4135K would be ideal for a small travel trailer or a van conversion with few powered features. In my case I have a fully loaded 2002 Roadtrek 190. The OEM supplied documentation listed an Elixer 4500 Converter, however that was substituted or later replaced with a Centurion 3000 Converter which was no longer keeping the RV battery charged. The Centurion unit had 9 usable fused 12VDC circuits while the PD4135K has 7 total and 6 usable for distribution. Compounding this issue was the fact that the Centurion unit had three fused circuits with two separate and different loads connected - a definite No-No for safety's sake. The solution was to install an Auxiliary Fuse Block and feed it from F2 on the PD4135K. The pig tailed leads on the PD4135K were a definite asset in this type of installation. 2. My installation required the use of all three dual 120VAC Breakers (6 circuits) which leaves very little room for wiring within that small compartment. While difficult, it can be done, though I suspect doing so pushes the NEC to the limit. I'll make two suggestions for anyone contemplating such a project. First, consider carefully the number of circuits(both 120 VAC and 12VDC)you need to accommodate without doubling up. It may be worthwhile to purchase a higher amperage rated converter to get the needed circuits and additional room for wiring. Second, mark every wire with a unique number before disconnecting it and record that number along with the circuit's function and fuse rating. Wire markers are available at your local [online]. As well, white adhesive tape and a black marking pen works fine. Doing this may save you time and later frustration. THIS REVIEW AND PICTURES EMAILED!

Based on other reviews, I received this product about as expected. Shipping took a very long time, this took 9 days to arrive after notification of shipping. The product was not packed very well, it does not have any visible damage from shipping though, which was a concern considering how the box looked. There are no instructions with the product. As expected, the lithium/AGM switch has a damaged solder joint. Over-all if there was another similar product from any other vendor available, I would have bought something else. At this time I'm not aware of anything else in stock, so this will do and I will make the needed repairs to make it work. It will be replacing the current control panel in our camper so we are able to charge LiFePO batteries.

Because the World Friends converter in our little Guy Mini Max was beginning to fail, I ordered a PD 4135; Quinn very helpfully took my order. Unfortunately, the new converter had no 12VDC output. Kailey promptly made arrangements for a warranty replacement. When I had trouble downloading the UPS return shipping label, Jamie guided the necessary process. I know problems sometimes occur with anything that is purchased, but etrailer has met and overcome the challenges. The new PD 4135 is working very well. Thank you, etrailer.

I replaced the WFCO 8735 with this PD4135. I have very little electrical experience. I found the little S1 switch the moved it to the "on" position (for lithium). I studied, took photos and tagged every wire. It worked out great. I so happy. It makes my battery happy too.

I got the product in the mail and there was no manual with it. I emailed Etrailer and two people responded immediately and sent attached files for it. (Thanks to both Robert and Rachel). I installed the unit this morning. Very similar to the original one in the camper so it was easy to do the replacement. I did have to put in a 1/2” spacer of wood in the hole as sizes weren’t identical but once the cover was snapped in it dosen’t show. The only thing I was surprised by was the tiny toggle switch to set it to lithium charging was a lot harder to toggle than I expected, but it didn’t break off the circuit board when switching. Both the customer service and product were great, as they have been on every order I have placed with these guys. So now all I have left to do is take this thing camping and see if switching everything over to lithium batteries was as worthwhile as I have heard about!

So far so good! I build my own power center modeled after the ones in RV for our enclosed trailer. Its been working great. I bought fuses at the auto parts store, and bought circuit breakers at home depot no problem. I did contact progressive dynamics because it seems that there are places you can buy these cheap but the serial number is not recognized by progressive dynamics meaning you have no warranty and probably cant return it to those places. But since etrailer was not listed on progressive dynamics website as a retailer, I contacted them, gave them my serial number, and they confirmed that etrialer is a preferred dealer, and my serial number is legit.... I contacted progressive dynamics also during installation, and they were very helpful. I was concerned the the wire coming out of the unit that hooks up to your 12 v batteries was 12AWG. I though that seemed too light a gauge, and should be at least 10AWG maybe 8AWG. Progressive dynamics, technical guy said that they have a special high temp insulation on those wires and they can indeed handle 40 AMPS. He recommended (which looks odd installed) but I ran 8AWG from my battery, and spliced it to the 12AWG wire on progressive dynamics unit. No Complaints so far, its been running great and charging the batteries. No regrets.

We own a 2005 Chalet A-Frame type camper trailer. We have had excellent service out of it except for the power converters. It came with a Elixir Elx 12 converter. First, the AC part burned out (literally). A couple of years later the DC part stopped working and I replaced it with another (now discontinued) Elx 12 because it would fit the hole. Well, it recently started over charging the batteries so I sought another brand that would fit or nearly fit that same "hole". After reading lots of reviews I settled on Progressive Dynamics's PD4135K. Not a perfect fit but easily fixed by removing a little wood with a jig saw and wood rasp. Once I found installation instructions (none were supplied), installation was a breeze. After about 3 days of careful observation I can report that the voltage is exactly as it should be. The batteries charge at the variable rates exactly as expected and the cooling fan functions perfectly. This is why I purchased the highly recommended Progressive Dynamics product and just in case I had a problem, that is why I purchased it from etrailer. Their Customer Service cannot be beat, like having a friend in the business.

Works very well for use in my DIY fish house. I have three electric jacks that draw heavy amperage each. The previous converter I bought did not have any feedback rejection and would blow the main 30 amp fuse and eventually burned the mother board. The progressive Dynamics converter has the feedback rejection. The only upgrade I would suggest is LED indicators for a blown fuse or breaker.

- PD4135K
by:

Easy to use. Took a couple hours to install. But that was because of location. Seems to be working well. Recommend it to others.

- PD4135K
by:

A problem that was unseen was discovered during this installation. The breaker bus was previously subjected, by a previous owner, to some extreme current draw; the main breaker was crumbling apart and the rail itself was deformed from heat. This unit contains the both breaker bus and power supply, and this replacement project exposed the damage that was unseen--a potential catastrophic situation. A side note: Previous use of the old breaker bus hardware was the root cause of an odor that I had suspected was either holding tank/P-trap during storage or a rodent decaying in some unreachable area. Once the damaged power center was removed, the persistent odor disappeared.

- PD4135K
by:

Absolutely zero resistance to moisture. Trailer got humid, board fried.

Comments
I reached out to the manufacturer who have not heard of this happening due to only humidity in the trailer. Condensation from pipes or roof leaks can deposit water on a circuit board which will conduct electricity and cause problems. You will want to make sure that the unit is protected from condensation and install it in a place that would protected from leaks.

This thing works great! I like that it charges and maintains my battery. I installed it in my converted cargo trailer. works great and keeps up with all of my electrical loads without issues. This power center charges a 4D 200ah 1500cca CAT industrial battery. It will charge the battery from 10.5 to 13.5v in 4-5 hrs. I run this power center with my 1000w Honda generator with no issues.

Received and installed the control center. Smooth install and easy to figure out. Need to print manuals, buy breakers, fuses and cable clamp after purchase. It's great to know that my 40-year-old Boler has been upgraded to a more modern power center. Can't wait to upgrade to lithium batteries in the future.

I installed this control center in the trailer I was building out for emergency communication support. It really helped me organize all the circuits in the trailer, keeping loads separate and balanced while incorporating three power sources.

The service from eTrailer was excellent as always and customer support was very good. I was replacing my brand new WFCO WF-8735 unit because it was not a smart charger - I could not get it to charge my batteries at full speed. The PD4135 is a direct replacement for it and provides better options for charging manually and also has a switch that converts charging for a Li battery. Although the product installed easily, there were a few glitches. One, etrailer did not send a manual with the product, so I had to get it online. Even then, the manual left a lot to be desired. It didn't describe the installation well nor the operation. The PD unit is a bit smaller than the WFCO and therefore the PD cover just barely covered the old screw holes. Also, the WFCO has 7 fuses but are not identical to PD's 7. The PD has 5 branch circuits like the WFCO except it has one extra circuit that can handle up to 30A - that's the second red wire (labeled 002) and the 6th fuse. The 7th fuse is red on both units and is for reverse protection. The 6th fuse on the WFCO is to doubly protect all of the branch circuits and has a metal 30A fuse - that's not in the design of the PD. Operationally, the PD works fine. The switch to convert to Li batteries is TINY and prone to breaking off (my first unit had the the switch in the bottom of the box!) You'll have to scour the PD website to find a picture of the switch since it is not included in the manual. Also, not included anywhere is the need to remove a 4 wire harness when using Li batteries. Also hard to find but on the website is the operation of the push button for manually exiting the Wizard mode and the meaning of the flashing light. Other than those minor issues, the unit is great.

Doesn’t fit perfectly. It required some trimming of the panel to fit vs the OE unit. Otherwise, it works great. Keeps the LiFePo4 battery charged to ~90% which is fine, and runs pretty quiet. Resold the OE unit to save some money.

Installed this unit in a vintage travel trailer we are restoring. It’s compact size and multi function made it perfect for a retrofit. This converter is smaller than the 110v only panel it replaced.
