Video Transcript for Curt Ball Mounts - Adjustable Ball Mount - D900 Review

Today we're going to look at our Curt Multi Ball Adjustable Ball Mount for two-inch trailer hitches number D900. For your multiple towing needs this ball mount has an adjustable height, a 5 3/4 inch drop to a 5 3/4 inch rise, the adjustable height fits almost any application. The solid steel construction is very strong and durable. Folks, this is solid. It weighs in at about 44 pounds so it definitely has some heft to it. There are multiple balls to fit your various towing needs.

It has a welded steel construction with a chrome finish. It's really easy to change your ball here. It comes in three sizes, it comes in the 1 7/8, the 2 inch, and the 2 5/16 inches. Each ball has its own towing capacity and we'll get into that in just a second. It's really easy to lock that back into place; just match up your hole there, put the pin in, and lock that back up.

It can be used with a 5/8 diameter hitch lock, that is sold separately. It comes with a black gloss finish. Lets take a look at some of the specs, as I said earlier, it does fit a two-inch receiver, the maximum rise you would measure from the top of the bar that goes into the hitch receiver to the top of the hitch here. That is 5 3/4 inches. Flip this over to show the drop measure, again measure from the top of the receiver bar to the top of the ball mount.

That again is 5 3/4 inches. The length will be measured from the center of the ball to the center of the pinhole. That is 16 inches. Weight capacity for each of the balls, 1 7/8 inch has a capacity of 6,000 pounds, the two-inch ball has a weight capacity of 7,500 pounds, and the 2 5/16 inch ball has a weight capacity of 10,000 pounds. This product does come with a limited seven year warranty.

That's all we have today for our Curt Multi Ball Adjustable Ball Mount for two-inch trailer hitches number D900.

Quaility is top notch, price is great, can't beat it. It's perfect if you need a little more distance from your hitch and your bumper. I did not get a extended A frame on my trailer and with this hitch it works great. I'm pulling a 24ft cargo trailer 10k rating. I added 4 locking pins so I don't have to worry about anything missing. 445104

Got to tow a boat trailer that sits 6" below the hitch when level. Probably overkill to use a 45 lb hitch for primarily a 2k lb boat, but I'm sure it will outlast both the trailer and truck. As far as the 'protective coating' I don't care much if it's not pretty, and for a solid 2" piece if metal, a lil rust is the least of my concerns. 349811

by:

It is almost exactly what I wanted. A 5" drop or a 5" rise. With a few more inches of distance from the tow vehicle. The 2" and 2 5/16" balls are at 90 degrees of each other. I will be using a blade to cut off the 1 7/8"ball, not a torch. Because When when I am using the other balls, I do not want to lower my hitch ground clearance by having that small ball below the others. 459367

I've had this for one year now. I like the length of it because I can drop my tailgate open without hitting the tongue jack. It also aids in backing the trailer with a large turning radius truck. It does make some noise when starting and stopping due to multiple joints. But is not a problem. The adjustability can't be beat for height and both sides. The heaviest load I towed was a large skid steer on a flatbed trailer. No problem. 384252

Unit was very loose. I sold it to some other poor sole locally. It is a great idea but needs to tighten up the tolerances. There was about 2 inches of movement due to the multiple adjustment points. Also found this unit cheaper at elsewhere. 584339

Excellent product. While priced lower than other similar name brand name products (that I have owned) it is as good or better. The quality, finish and fit is superior. 355653

I pleased with my last order, but this order i was pleased with the Multi-Ball hitch. But the Replacement Rail Pins and Clips for Curt Fifth wheel Hitch I was NOT. The Pins and Clips were shown on the video and the pictures with "Gold Colored Zinc Coated Finish for better protection against rust and corrosion and should last for a long time" they just look like a standard silver colored steel pin and clip. I am hoping they are the same quality that I was expecting. 610281

The "durable powder coat" on this is a JOKE. This thing was chipped up just from shipping and will probably rust fast. Other than the obvious flaw in the coating, this item seems promising. It was pretty much what I was looking for. I haven't gotten to use it yet, I am sure it will function fine although rusty. 30344

Coming in at about 45 pounds, the D900 Curt Multi-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount is a BEAST! I purchased for use with my '08 Expedition towing either a small utility trailer w/ 1 7/8" ball or my DooLittle Bullitt cargo trailer w/ 2" ball. I needed 5 inches of drop (at least) for both. This is just about the only economical mount in which to accomplish this. Most if not all two ball mounts are 2" and 2 5/16" balls. Many reviews comment on the length that this mount sticks out and initially that was a concern of mine. Please see the Q&A of the D900 product page to address those issues. Short story: A hollow/tubular extension shank of (about or greater)15" reduces vehicle hitch capacity by 50%. The D900 shank and other components are SOLID steel. No reduced capacity. Specifically in my case; this extra length will allow me some personal maneuvering room when hooked up to the DooLittle and raising the lift gate of my Expedition. Clearance between raised lift gate and cargo trailer was about two inches using my old shank, and I should about double that. The anti-rattle tightening bolt is a nice touch. This is my first Etrailer purchase, but not my last. 606939

Fits our VW Touareg perfectly and allows us to tow a variety of things now. As can be seen in the pictures the hitch has a +5-inch gap between the bumper and the vertical adjustment pillar and the trailer itself is out further so there's enough room to get to the rear hatch and maneuver the vehicle/trailer. 127603

A year later and I love this setup! Pulls our flatbed cargo trailer 1-7/8 and our 1976 Apache pop-up trailer 2, each of which are at different heights, too.

Kenneth,Thank you for your review. This Curt adjustable ball mount measures 15-1/4 from the center of pin hole to center of ball. If you are looking for an adjustable ball mount that is lighter weight and has less length I would recommend part # DTSTBM6600-3S. This fast way aluminum adjustable ball mount weighs half of the weight of the curt ball mount and features three ball sizes 1-7/8, 2 and 2-5/16. It also measures 8 1/2 from center of hitch pin hole to center of ball so it will not stick as far out from your truck.

Received as advertised in a timely fashion. Only negative comment is that I had to take this ball mount to a welding shop and have the shank length cut back and pin position hole re-drilled. By the time you assemble this and mount to the coupler on the tow vehicle the ball location is way to far away from the vehicle and will cause an over amount of leverage. This could result in vehicle hitch failure. My suggestion is to have atleast two positioning holes in the shank so it can be adjusted to a desired length. Other than that this is a great alternative to caring around multiple size ball mounts. 24421

Perfect fit. If only the receptacle was installed correctly. No fault of etrailer, the idiot that installed the original hitch did not provide the correct clearance. Only 1/8" off. Ooops! 744644

I needed a hitch that I could haul my work trailer with and still drop the tailgate without dropping the trailer. I looked on etrailer and found one that would work barely but decided to call etrailer and see if anyone had any ideas. Steve answered and looked after I told him my requirements and came up with this. This has a longer distance from ball to pin by a few inches compared to the one I found so my tailgate will still drop even if I’m at an angle to my trailer or on a hill. Also with the adjustable height it’s great. Awesome hitch. Solid for a good price. ?? 739065

A fixed ball mount, like # 80232, is just a little longer at 16 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. • How to Gain Turning Clearance between a Truck and Bumper Pull Trailer
The problem that you will run into when using a hitch extender is the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch will be reduced by 50 percent.
