Infrared Thermometer Has Easy Operation

TireMinder Infrared Thermometer

This thermometer is great for checking your tires, engine, ventilation system, or transmission cooler after a long drive in your RV or vehicle. It has an infrared laser that lets you accurately aim and measure the temperature of any surface. Simply pull the trigger button to turn it on, aim at a surface, hold the trigger down, and the temperature will display on the LCD screen. And if you want to measure other areas of the same surface, continue to hold the trigger down and slightly move the thermometer around. The temperature will fluctuate up and down, making it easy to find hot spots. Once you release the trigger, the screen remains on for 7 seconds before automatically shutting off which helps save the batteries.

Video Transcript for TireMinder Infrared Thermometer Review

Randy: Hey guys, Randy here at Today we're going to be taking a look and an infrared thermometer from TireMinder. Now basically this allows us to get surface temperatures on any object that we want without having to actually make contact with it. We we're measuring a couple of the really hot heaters that we have out here, it went right up to 1000 degrees, but I guess once you get over that 716 degree, it may lose some of its accuracy. Most oftentimes with RVs or campers like this, you're going to use this to check the temperatures of your hubs, so you stop to get gas you can pull this out. You can very quickly check all the temps of your hubs and if you've got one that's a little bit higher than the other ones, it probably needs to be serviced.

It probably needs grease on it.You can also check tire temperatures with these. If you have a tire that gets under inflated, it flexes more and it builds up more heat. So if you've gone 50, 60 miles, you stop to get gas or stop to hit the restroom, it's a great idea just to get out and check it very quickly. This is one of the most recommended products I see with full time RVers. They always like to have something like this to just give you a quick check.

We also use this a lot around our shop here. We'll use it when we install transmission coolers. We can measure the two different lines to find which side is the return line and which side is the sending line, so we can get the cooler put in the right place. You can use this to check heating and ventilation systems, so you can see what the temperature is coming out of that vent and then help to determine whether your system's working properly, that you need to change a filter maybe in a vehicle, your AC system needs to be recharged if it's not cooling the correct way. It's pretty easy to operate. To turn it on.

We simply use the trigger. Just point it at whatever we want to measure, pull the trigger, our screen's going to come on and then we can hold it to get that reading. You can see as we move it around to different areas, it will continuously kind of change that reading, so it helps us to find any hot spots that we might have. We have the option here of turning on the backlight. We can turn that on and off just at the press of a button and we can, if you're in an area where you don't want to use a laser, we can simply turn that off, you can see.

Hit the button, you got the triangle icon there that means the laser is going to come out that shows us our point in which we're measuring the temperature at.But if we hit that again, it'll turn it off. It's still going to measure that same point just without the lasers. Now there are sites on the top of it, just like a rifle would have or a pistol would have. You got two back here and one in the front. It's not exactly accurate though. I wouldn't use this to get an exact measure using the laser as a guide. On this particular one, it's about a quarter inch off to the right, so that wouldn't be my favorite thing. The thing I do like about it is its only going to stay on for about eight seconds. You can see that shuts off. It only stays on for about eight seconds, so you don't have to be worried about wearing down our batteries and when it's on we can switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit. You can see it holds the temperature for us until it shuts off.Very easy to switch back and forth. I also like how easy the batteries are to get too. See this little indent here Little indent on the other side, just going to pop it open. It takes a couple of double A's. Going to have good run time out of these, you're using it for very short intermittent spurts, so I can imagine 6 to 12 hours on a set of batteries you'll have no issues with at all. This little investment is worth a lot of headaches. If you can catch a hub that's getting hot, if you can catch a tire that's under inflated, you save hundreds of dollars in repair costs there and also are they're very, very popular amongst full time RVers, so definitely something handy to have. It's going to work just as effectively as any one out there on the market. Good weight, good feel. I think it's definitely something you'll want to keep in your truck, your camper or your RV.

  • How To Identify The Transmission Return Line on the 2005 Chrysler 300 2.7L For a Derale Cooler
I find the best way to verify what transmission cooler line is the return is by using a TireMinder Infrared Thermometer # TM48FR. This will ensure you find the correct line since both the inlet and outlet connections on your radiator are identical. You can use the thermometer to check the temperature of the lines after driving your 2005 Chrysler 300. The cooler temperature line will be your return line, which should be the bottom line. Then you will be able to install the Derale Series...

  • Damaged Caused to Travel Trailer Brake Drums and Bearings by High Temperatures
Normal operating temperatures for drum brakes range from 150-400 degrees F. During certain stopping conditions the brake heat can exceed 600 degrees. The effectiveness and stopping power of the brakes is significantly reduced at these higher temperatures and anything above 650 degrees may damage brake components if they stay that warm for an extended period of time. The bearings themselves can withstand considerable temperature without damage. However the bearing lubricant cannot. Temperatures...

  • Finding Transmission Return Line on 2001 Ford F250
This is pretty easy. The line to the cooler will be warmer than the return line. To determine which is which, start the engine when it's cold. Put your foot on the brake, and shift into D for about 10-15 seconds, keeping your foot on the brake. Put the transmission back in part and shut off the truck. Feel the transmission lines or use an IR thermometer like # TM48FR. The cooler of the two lines is the return line, which is the one you want to tap the cooler into. You'll also need the #...

  • Adjustment Procedure and Break In Operation When Changing Trailer Brake Pads Or Drums
Once you have your new Hayes/AL-KO Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 185100-150 installed you want to adjust the brakes. You can use a flat head screw driver but this is more easily done with a Brake Adjustment Spoon # W80630. I have linked our article on adjusting trailer drum brakes below as well a how to video for a visual reference. The process involves tightening the brakes until they become difficult to turn and then backing them off 10 clicks. As everyone will have a different definition...
