Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System for Pioneer Platform

Hello neighbors, welcome back. I'm Steven with etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System for your Pioneer Platform. Now this will fit a lot of GMC Sierra, Chevy Silverado crew cabs, but make sure you go to our website, check our fit guide at the top center of the page, enter the year, make and model, and we'll make sure you get the right parts the first time. Now, because of the limited space, I wanna throw up a graphic of pretty much what these would look like at a different angle. So that image above my left shoulder there, that's a little variation, if you will, of what these would look like up on the vehicle.

That being said, these are 56 and a half inches long. They're rated at 220 pounds. Always make sure you're observing your vehicle's maximum roof load capacity. You should be able to find that information in your owner's manual. Now these are a nice steel powder-coated finish.

Very nice finish. You don't have to worry about rust, corrosion, that kind of stuff. I've got this guy kind of mocked up. They do basically sit pretty much up and flat. I'm gonna try to show you maybe a closer angle if possible.

Very nice, heavy duty. All the holes and everything in here, just actually make it more rigid and it's a very nice product. It gives you a nice sleek look, I think. Kind of gives it that industrial look if you will, but very rugged. And again, you can mount this to your Rhino-Rack Pioneer system.

That platform system is sold separately. Now the rails simply connect to the ditches on your vehicle's roof. So the ditches are running or rain gutter guards, whatever you wanna call 'em on the roof of the vehicle. You simply remove the ditch molding, create a permanent fixed mounting point to then install this backbone system. So yes, there is some drilling required per the instructions that come with it. Just follow the instructions and you'll be okay. Now I wanna zoom in here with the hardware. All the mounting hardware is included. You are gonna get six external platforms that provide stable mounting surfaces for the Pioneer Platform itself. That's these guys here. Now they also have their locking blocks, (metal clatters) all the hardware, all these little nuts, the rubber washers, some of the lock washers. That stuff was super small, so I left it in those bags. But you get the drill bit, you get the Allen key and you get these little, I guess I would call 'em like a tar, Butyl tape, sealant kind of thing. They're just like a sealant to make sure no water and stuff gets in the vehicle after you've drilled holes and that kind of thing. So again, pretty simple install. Just follow the instructions. Like I said, they're included. And you shouldn't have any problem. And then you're gonna have a nice sleek looking top for your truck, and again, you'll be able to mount this to the Pioneer Platform. Again, that platform is sold separately. Well folks, that's gonna do it for our look today at this Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System. I am Steven. Thank you so much for your time. I hope this information's been helpful to you. Have fun out there. Stay safe.

  • How to Install Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform on 2004 Mercedes ML 500
We have a way to install a Rhino Rack Pioneer Plaform on the roof of your 2004 Mercedes Benz ML 500 that has raised rails on it's roof but not with the Backbone mounts. You'd instead need to install a set of crossbars like the Malone rack part # MPG216 so that you could install a universal mount Pioneer Platform like the # RR42115BF which measures 58 inch by 47 inch.

  • What Replacement Hardware do You Have for the Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System?
It is possible to get replacement mounting hardware for a Backbone Mounting System like the # RR38QJ. However, it depends on what replacement hardware you are looking for. For example, if you need replacement washers for the system, that is the Replacement M6 Spring Washer for Rhino-Rack Accessories # RR73TB. If you happen to need a replacement M6 x 20mm screw, that is the # RR89UB. These components are sold individually depending on what model of Rhino-Rack Backbone you have. If you...

  • Recommended Rhino Rack Backbone System for a 2022 Ford F-150
The Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System for Pioneer Platform # RR38QJ is actually specifically meant to work with GMC Sierra and Silverado trucks so it's not going to work with your F-150. Instead, I recommend checking out the Rhino-Rack Universal Modular Backbone Mounting System for Camper Shells # RR24AT for a long (68") set or # RR57AT for a short (56") set. These backbones are universal so they are going to work with your 2022 Ford F-150 and has a dynamic weight capacity of 265-lbs.

  • Can The Rhino-Rack BackBone Mounting System Be Used To Mount A Rooftop Tent
The Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System for Pioneer Platform # RR38QJ would be able to be attached to your 2007 FJ Cruiser, but it only has a 220lb capacity so it wouldn't be able to handle the weight of a rooftop tent. If your FJ Cruiser has a naked roof then the only option for a rooftop tent would be to tow a small trailer with crossbars like the Yakima EasyRider Double Decker Trailer # Y08129.
