I checked with my technical contact at Demco about compatibility of their Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit # DM8553003-12 with your 1990-era 17K-rated DSP brand 5th wheel hitch. My contact advised that no testing of this combination has ever been done and so they can not make you any absolute assurance that the two brands' parts will work together properly.

For your older Demco FWH-24P SL 21 Hijacker the correct base rails are the SL Series # DM6012. These base rails are unique to the SL Series hitches like what you have and they will run vertical along the truck bed (as opposed to horizontally across like most do).

The Demco SL rails are different from the RBW rails you mentioned so to use the # DM5992 on your 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 you'd need the SL rail kit that fits your truck part # DM8553003-12. There isn't a similar adapter available for your RBW setup.

The Demco fifth wheel hitch fwh 24p came in two different styles. If you see UL or Ultra on the hitch anywhere it was designed to fit standard fifth wheel rails but if instead you see SL the rails needed actually go the opposite direction and require a different style rail kit.
So if you have the UL you'd need the kit part # DM8552016-71 for a set of industry standard rails. If you see SL instead you'd need the # DM8553003-12. Both of these kits come with the rails and everything needed... view full answer...

The installation kit I recommend is part # DM8553003-12. This custom kit reduces the installation time when compared to a standard kit.
