Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2025 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss

Updated 07/07/2025 | Published 01/04/2025

Question:

Hello, I just purchased a 2025 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss. My intent is to be able to tow it behind our RV. If is makes a difference, my RV is a 2021 Coachman Freelander by Forest River. The specs indicate the towing capacity is 5000 lbs. I am looking for recommendation for a service shop to install the tow bar and whatever else is required. Can you recommend a shop near the Miami Lakes, FL area? zip: 33014. What parts and brand of towing equipment would you think is best for my specific vehicle? Thanks

Hi Tom; to flat tow your 2025 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, wiring, and a supplemental brake system. For a complete setup I recommend the following:

-Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM28GR

-Roadmaster Falcon All-Terrain Tow Bar # RM-522

-Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables # RM-645

-Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-15267

-Roadmaster Battery Disconnect for Towed Vehicle w/ Flat Tow Brake System # RM-766

-Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes # SM99251

More than likely you will also need a high-low adapter to keep your setup level. I went ahead and attached an article below which explains how to measure and choose the correct adapter.

For installers near 33014 we have Dalto Shop at 7541 Nw 54th St Miami, FL 33166 and RS Auto Specialties at 10772 SW 190 St Miami, FL 33157. Both have successfully installed flat tow setups so they have experience with it. I also attached a link to our local installers tool below for your reference.

I have a 2025 Colorado Z71 set up for flat towing with an AF1 brake system, Roadmaster battery disconnect, Roadmaster quick connect/disconnect baseplate, and the RM-15267 4 Diode wiring kit. When hooked up to the RV, the right and left turn signals work on the Colorado, the brake lights activate (with the AF1 pulling the pedal down), but I cannot get the tail lights functioning on the Colorado. The tail lights on the Colorado are the not either of the brake or turn signal bulbs, but rather the ā€œCā€ shaped perimeter portion of the tail lights assembly. I wired the 4 diode kit per the schematic included in the instructions as a combined MH (2022 Renegade Valencia with a 7 pin with stop/turn lamps combined), and separate towed vehicle. Did I wire it incorrectly? Do I need another/different diode kit? Thanks in advance, Steve

@SteveP I would double check all of the wiring again just to be sure it is correct. That is the right kit so the kit isn't the issue. You can use the Roadmaster wiring diagram and we also have one on the # RM-15267 product page for combined to separate you can look at. If everything checks out I would give Roadmaster a call so you can troubleshoot while you're standing out at your vehicle.

@RobinH, thanks for the quick reply, I will double check everything, and follow up with RM, if needed.
