Best Way to Initially Set Up Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes

Question:

What is the proper way to get these brakes seated on a new install? Have checked everything on the trailer and everything is working. When hooked to the truck the camper is pushing the truck and appears to not be working. Have check voltage all is good. Does it take a certain amount of time to seat them? And what is the recommended process to do so. The customer is not comfortable going over 40 mph?

Thanks for reaching out about this!

The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # K23-478-479 might need an initial adjustment when they are first installed. What you're looking for is a slight drag from the brake pads when you spin the hub.

Once the brake assemblies are properly adjusted, then it's time to break them in on the towing side of things. You'll want to take the towing setup to an empty parking lot and practice braking from about 15-20 mph. Usually, I recommend setting the brake controller to about mid-range settings and then make additional adjustments from there until the driver is comfortable with the trailer braking performance.

Hopefully this helps you out some. Let me know if you have any other questions about this!
