Troubleshooting S.H Message on Draw-Tite I-Stop IQ 20191 Brake Controller w Blue Wire Disconnected
Question:
I have an istop brake controller from drawtite that immediately goes into SH fault when powered even with both the red brake switch lead snd the blue electric brake lead completely disconnected. It appears to be defective I suppose but it never was actually even used. Any suggestions?

Your Draw-Tite I-Stop IQ 20191 will only display the SH fault when the brake output (blue) wire isn't properly sensing a ground connection. This means if you cut the wire about 6" from the controller and test it with a circuit tester the fault should go away as it should be reading the ground from your tester. If this isn't the case then that controller could definitely be defective and you'll want to get it replaced from wherever you bought it.
An alternative that I really like is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 which is arguably the most reliable controller on the market. Since this controller is backed by a limited lifetime warranty you can be confident in the product itself and that any factory issues will be covered.
