The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # SH22G has a 40lb per bike capacity so unless removing the batteries drops the weight of the bike back down below 40lbs this would not be a compatible option. Technically you should never be hauling your e-bikes with the batteries installed on them. There should've been a note in your e-bike's manual that states to store it inside the vehicle while hauling. Most likely you will need to use a different rack with a higher capacity otherwise you risk damaging the rack and the bikes.

The Kuat NV 2.0 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # NV22G has a 60lb per bike capacity and would be the better choice for hauling your e-bikes. If you want to explore some other bike racks that are capable of handling the load then let me know what features you'd prefer, if your e-bikes require a frame or wheel mount, and what price range you're wanting to stick to.

I have a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack and it's been great. I still use it for my regular mountain bike - regular tires. Can the bike rack I have be converted somehow to carry an e-bike - step through fat tire 4.25 inch tire - I would only be carrying 1 bike but the weight without battery is 78 pounds. I'm not sure I'm strong enough to lift the bike but wondering if I have to make my own. Pete

@PeteC The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack # SH22G only has a 40lb per bike capacity so there simply is no way to convert the rack to accommodate and safely haul your e-bike. Instead you'll want to go with a rack like the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack # HLY64FR. This rack has an 80lb per bike capacity, comes with wheel hoops that can handle up to 5" wide tires, and is rated for use on pretty much everything but a travel trailer.

@KevinC -- thanks for your reply Kevin. I didn't know if there was some reinforcement I could make to the Kuat Sherpa to carry the weight of one bike in the closest position to the trunk. The 2" tubular construction is plenty strong enough. The hitches are expensive and I expect I'll still be using the one I have for my Specialized 29r. The Kuat hitch is a very good hitch.

@PeteC Yeah, unfortunately the manufacturers don't really offer any kind of adapters. Even though the shank is strong the actual bike rack trays and other components aren't designed for the weight and when rattling on the back of the vehicle will take too much abuse and breakdown. It's not worth the risk to destroy both the bike rack and bike using one that it's not rated for the weight. We typically shoot videos showing how the racks hold up to bumps but it's just in the parking lot and isn't the same as if you were out on a bumpy road doing highway speeds. The safest option in your scenario is going to be using a different rack.
