Information About Double/Triple Towing and Hitch for a Travel Trailer
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I have a 2021 Forest River Ozark Ascent travel trailer thats about 22 long and weighs around 3500-3600lbs. I have a 2020 CFMoto UForce 500 UTV that I am wanting to try to haul behind the camper. Ive been told by many folks that towing a bumper pull with a bumper pull is not advised and that the campers, especially the small, light campers, are not strong enough to tow a utility trailer behind them. Can you guys give any advice or guidance on this? Id love to be able to pull everything to the deer lease in one trip. Tow vehicle is a 2022 F150 4x4 with the tow package.

We do not recommend that you double/triple tow (tow one trailer behind another trailer). Many states either don't allow double/triple towing or have numerous restrictions. Some states limit the total length of all 3 units (truck/trailer/trailer), some only allow certain types of trailers behind the first trailer and some require a special endorsement on your license to be allowed to double/triple tow. You will need to check the laws for any state you plan on double/triple towing in to ensure that it is legal and under what circumstances it is legal.
To double/triple tow you would need to ensure that your truck can tow the weight of both trailers. The safe maximum weight to tow is really 80-85% of your listed max towing weight. You would also want to contact the manufacturer of your travel trailer and ensure that your trailer is capable of towing another trailer and if so, how much weight it can tow.
If everything checks out legally and acceptable to the manufacturers then you can use the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 18" to 51" Wide Item # C13702 if the distance between your frame is 18" to 51". Or the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22" to 72" Wide # 13703 if your trailer's frame is 22" to 72" wide if you need a hitch to tow your UTV trailer. You would also need 4-way wiring like the Curt Vehicle Wiring Harness # C58044.
