Complete Setup For Flat Towing A 1978 Toyota LandCruiser FJ40
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
You provided an article on this topic, but Id like to use the Invisibrake 8700 rather than the proposed system. Any issue with this? Also, I need the appropriate recommended wiring to connect the two vehicles. My tow vehicle is a 2017 Minnie Winnie 5000 lb tow capacity. The FJ is 3500 lbs, no steering lock, vacuum boost brakes. I want to prioritize a clean install and very easy connect/disconnect. Only towing the FJ and only towing with the RV. The BlueOx system looks like it would be clean with the universal baseplate and would not need a cross bar. Can you confirm no cross bar is needed? Thanks!

I can definitely help you out with finding the necessary parts to flat tow your 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser! The Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System # RM-8700 that you were looking at would work well for your application. This is a permanent solution which allows you to flat tow on the fly without needing to setup a brake system every time.
I think the best and easiest way to provide lighting on your towed vehicle is with Roadmaster Standard Magnetic Tow Lights # RM-2120. This simply plugs into your RV's 4 way flat trailer connector and provides the necessary lights without needing to splice into your Jeep's factory wiring.
Then for the baseplates, you can certainly use Blue Ox Bolt-On Base Plate Bracket Kit - 5,000 lbs # BX88230 without a crossbar. This is an affordable universal option that you can then pair with a tow bar like Blue Ox Alpha 2 Non-Binding Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,500 lbs # BX7380. I attached several demonstration videos for you to check out regarding these flat tow parts and systems.
