Comparing Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver C13394 and C13200 For 2019 Toyota Highlander
Question:
Good Day! I am a novice when it comes to trailering and the needed equipment. Following the suggestions of several friends, I have looked over etrailers.com and I am about to make a purchase. However, I would like to know the answer to the following before I pull the trigger. I am torn between the CURT C13200 round tube and the CURT 13394 Square tube. I will be towing a utility trailer DK2 model MMT5X7 5 in 1, or similar, ~1600lb payload. The difference in tongue weights 500lbs vs. 900lbs?. Is it something to do with the weldment area and locations on the two types of tube? I cannot foresee myself ever needing/using anything heavier, but I would rather have the capacity and never need it than need it, etc. Thank you in advance for your reply.

The differences between the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13394 and # C13200 for your 2019 Toyota Highlander are that the # C13394 has a hidden cross tube meaning once installed the only visible section of the hitch will be the receiver it self, where the # C13200 has the entire cross tube visible.
The visible cross tube design is a bit stronger of a design as shown by its higher 900lb tongue weight rating and 6000lb trailer weight rating.
Now I looked up the owner's manual for your Highlander and its max trailer weight rating is a max of 5000lbs depending on the specific options and given that the trailer has trailer brakes.
Since you would never get to use the increased capacity of the # C13200, I recommend going with the # C13394 instead as it will be less visible while still being more than enough to tow your 5' x 7' utility trailer.
To complete your towing setup you will also need a vehicle wiring harness # 118449, and a ball mount, hitch ball, and hitch pin and clip which can all be found in the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900.
I included pictures of both hitches installed on a 2019 Toyota Highlander, and videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
