Recommended Extension For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver To Clear Long Kayak On Trailer
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I am looking for a 2 hitch extension for my 2013 Tovota Rav4. About 2 feet in length should work. The receiver is already on the car and I have the hitch with a ball. The hitch extenders I see on the etrailer website do not have pin holes on both ends. I cannot fabricate or weld. I just need a 2 foot extension so my kayak trailer with a long kayak is clear of the rear of the car.

I have another option for you, but currently there is not a 2' extension for a 2" trailer hitch receiver.
Instead I recommend using the Curt Extender for 2" Receivers # C45796 which is an 18" extension that will allow you to insert you ball mount into and has hitch pin holes on each end. One thing to keep in mind is that any time you use a hitch extender the tongue weight and trailer weight ratings of your hitch will be reduced by 50%, so you will need to make sure you are not overloading the hitch.
To get the extra 6" of length you are looking for I recommend replacing your current ball mount with a longer version like the Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitch # BH20 which measures 13-1/4" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball mount hole. If your current hitch ball has a 1-1/4" shank you will be able to reuse it. If it has a different shank diameter you will need 2" Hitch Ball # A-90, or 2-5/16" hitch ball # 19286.
Lastly I recommend using the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2" Trailer Hitches # RM-061 on the extension and ball mount to get rid of any rattling.
I included videos for the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
