Diagnosing 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 7-Way not Functioning Trailer Lights
Question:
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500. I have power to the 7 way plug but when I plug my trailer in no lights on the trailer period. I know the trailer lights work because I hook my wifes suburban up to it.

Expert Reply:
Since you have tried the trailer on your wifes car and it works it is safe to assume that you have eliminated the trailer from the equation as being the problem.
The first thing I would do is test the 7-way at the rear of your 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 and make sure that there is voltage in all of the correct places. Check out the picture I attached that shows the standard way a 7-way is wired.
It is possible that a previous owner of your Ram wired up the 7-way incorrectly and that is why you are seeing power at your 7-way but it is not working with your trailer.
