Tekonsha Primus IQ vs. Prodigy P2 or P3 Brake Controller and Parts to Install on 2012 Honda Pilot
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
What is the difference between the Teknosha Primus IQ and Teknonsha Prodigy P2 controllers? Can I use/install either one on my pilot? Which is simpler to use? To do an install in my pilot, what parts/kit do I need - controller, harness, mounting braket, other?? Thanks.

Both brake controllers will work with your 2012 Honda Pilot, but let's start with what you need to install them, which is just a couple of components:
- 4-Way: T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118558
- Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7
These parts will give you the wiring needed to use the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160, Prodigy P2 # 90885, or its most recent iteration, the Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195.
The differences are essentially the superior display of the Prodigy P2 and P3 over the Primus IQ, and the fact the Prodigy controllers can mount in a 360 degree vertical plane while the Primus has to be between 0 and 90 degrees, so if you bump it with your knee it can throw the controller off.
The P3 has the best LCD display and advanced diagnostics which you can read on the screen instead of a number or symbol for the other controllers that will have you digging up a manual.
The best option, and the one I recommend is the Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195.
This really is the best brake controller available, but it is also more expensive, so if you are just going to tow a couple times a year and need something that will work for you and reliably apply your trailer brakes then go with the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160.
I have added links to video reviews for you as well.
