Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness. The connection point for the 4-way harness is located behind the rear bumper. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness in your cargo area, on the driver's side. The included relays then plug into the converter harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, insert the included fuse into your fuse panel as indicated in the instructions.

Product detail

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-way connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a 2-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on 1 wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's 3-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118558 Review

Today, we're going to review part number 118558. This is the Tow Ready T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness. This part number is a custom fit part number. It is designed fit behind the pilots without the two package, starting in 2012. What I would recommend is go to our website and pull up our fit guide and put in your year and model on the pilot and it will tell you if this part number would be the correct application for you. Now everything shown here on the table is included. It includes the converter box.

It includes a wiring harness with the four-way for the back of the vehicle. It includes the wiring harness that will be installed inside the vehicle, in the cargo area. It includes the two-relays, a fuse, some zip ties to take up extra wiring and some nice simple do-it-yourself instructions with pictures that show you we're the location points are. Now this will provide a 4-pole flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle. It is quick and easy to install. There's no cutting, slicing or taping of wires.

It's a solid one piece construction. The wire on this is a nice 16 gauge bonded wire with the four flat plug. It gives it a factory appearance. Basically, what you want to do is when you go to install this, what you can do is go inside the vehicle and in the cargo area you'll find. and again, the instructions will show you exactly where it's located but you'll find a plug that will match this white plug on this harness. Go ahead and plug that in and then go up the harness.

Then you'll see this black plug with the opening. She'll take the relays and then these relays, both of these, will plug right in here. The fuses are already installed. The inline fuses are already in here. Then at the very end is this gray plug. You'll take your converter box and that would just push right in.

You just pop it in there and it will snap into place. Then what you might want to do is attach this with some double faced tape so it doesn't move around or make any noise. Then what you also need to do is go up to the front of the vehicle and in the fuse box, you'll want to install this 30 AMP fuse to make everything operational. Then what you'll is go to the back of the vehicle. Then this part right here, you'll find behind the bumper, there will be a plug with the cap on it. You'll remove that cap. The plug will match this plug right here. Plug this in and then you'll have a length of wire to run out the back and here's your floor way. It has the included dust cover on it. You can just run this out the back when you're going to tow. When you're not towing, you could pull the length of wire inside the vehicle. Store it inside. Now, a few specs on this. The maximum stop and turn maximum amperage of the stop and turn light circuit is 7.5 AMPs and on the tail lights would also be 7.5 AMPs. But that should do it for the review on part number 118558. The Tow Ready T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness. .

I had read all reviews on this before purchasing, and I was very pleased for the gentleman who had posted a video of the install. I was also pleased that the product came earlier than I had expected and that I was able to install all components in the three location of the auto in less than 10 minutes. 126745

I was certainly pleased with the staff and their expertise on answering questions on the product and the efficiency of the delivery shipment. The product was easy to install and managed to eliminate the problem I had with my new vehicle with LED lights and connecting to my trailer which had the old lights. The result is the product is working great and I have confidence in etrailer products and staff. Thank you. 443537

Works great. Saved over $200 from what the local Honda dealership wanted to charge me. Printed instructions were not very helpful, but the video on YouTube is good. 508140

Product appears to be of good quality and I'm sure will work well, if I get them installed correctly. Installation instructions are absolutely terrible. Instructions for mounting the harness say to "locate" items, but doesn't say what to do after you have located the part. Instructions for connecting the flat plug are better. Picture with fuse installation instructions does not accurately depict my fuse box. Parts are included which are not identified and I don't know if I am supposed to install them or not. Etrailer staff was friendly and I know they can do better. 65766

Comments

If you are referring to the two additional black relays, these are installed in the empty black plug on the harness section that is attached to the black converter box. There are slots for both relays on this plug. The box-style fuse included with the kit goes in your secondary under-hood fuse box in the slot labeled Trailer Main. Check your owners manual or the underside of the lid of the fuse box for a labeled diagram of the slot functions. Apart from that, it looks like all other mentions of locating connectors are just followed by plugging in the matching connector for the harness. Let me know if you have any other issues along the way.

2012 Honda Pilot

The wiring harness number 118558 for my 2012 Honda Pilot went together pretty much as advertised with two exceptions. When the access panel is removed, there is a bracket that the black box should slide onto. I had to file the bracket so the black box would fit. Not a big problem. The real big problem came when trying to remove the dummy plug under the car. After much wasted time and energy, I finally pried the clip loose from the frame and took it apart. I then removed the dummy pug quite easily, inserted the 4 plug harness fitting and reinserted the clip back into the frame. This step should be included in the instructions as the dummy plug CANNOT be removed without that clip being taken apart. Also, the mounting brackets # 18144 and # 18140 are not needed. There is a molded 4 plug bracket as part of my plastic bumper. 121748

After buying a used trailer, I realized that my 2012 Honda Pilot didn't have a plug for the lighting. I came across etrailer.com while researching what I needed, and found all the information I needed. Better yet, they had the best price around on the kit I needed. The order shipped right away, and I actually received it a day or two before I had expected it to arrive. Installation was quick and simple, and everything worked as it should. The only thing that wasn't quite clear in the installation instructions is how to remove the cover from the harness that's tucked under the vehicle. There are two tabs that need to be released, but I couldn't see one of the tabs, and I couldn't quite get it. So here's a tip: remove the entire harness from the vehicle, and you'll be able to access both tabs easily. To do this, find a third tab that fastens the harness to the little plastic piece attached to the bottom of the vehicle. Hope that helps. I'd recommend the product, and I'd definitely use etrailer.com again. 400347

Wiring harness for towing receiver on a 2014 Honda Pilot. Installed and worked as advertised, no problems. Installation was easy with one hitch (ha!) - getting the cap off of the plug on the vehicle was extremely difficult. Bring a flat-head screwdriver with you to pry the cap off. this was almost too easy to believe. Honda is all set up for this but it is difficult to reach the plug inside the car and the plug under the bumper was very hard to undo because of 5 years of road grime BUT the etrailer parts fit right in and I had lights immediately. Couldn't be happier and I saved close to $200 as compared to the dealer. 519523

Its a clean hookup. The plug connection behind the bumper was the most difficult part of the install. It was suggested to remove the connector from the frame first. That worked out well being that the clip had to be slid off of the connector before it would come apart The rest fell right into place. 509925

The simplest way to find out how your vehicle is equipped is to provide your VIN to your local Honda dealer; he can look up the VIN to see how the vehicle was equipped from the factory. However, the two parts noted below will work in either case. If you need a 4-pole flat trailer connector on your Pilot you can use Tow Ready harness # 118558. If your trailer needs...

  • Recommended Trailer Connector for 2014 Honda Pilot
  • To install a 7-way trailer connector on your 2014 Pilot, you'll need part # 118265. You won't need a bracket, as there's an area along side the hitch that can be opened up with a 2 inch hole saw. If you'd rather not do that, you can use a mounting bracket like # PK12711U can be used. The 7-way would plug into the connector you found under the vehicle, you'll need to remove the protective cap before you can plug the 7-way into the connector. The rest of the procedure is explained in the...

  • Wiring Harness for 2012 Honda Pilot with Factory Hitch
  • We have great wiring harness options for your 2012 Honda Pilot. If your trailer has a 4-Way flat trailer connector, you will want the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118558. This wiring harness for your Pilot will not require any cutting or splicing of wires to install. The converter and converter harness will instill inside the cargo area behind a panel and the 4-Way harness will install into a gray plug under the vehicle bumper on the driver's side. If your trailer has...

  • Removing Wiring Harness Cap to Install Trailer Wiring on a 2014 Honda Pilot
  • The cap on the factory plug on your 2014 Honda Pilot should separate from the plug by lifting up on a tab. You may need a small flathead screwdriver to do so. We do not have a video showing this but looking at the end that plugs into the vehicle it would appear that it is the type that has to be pried up while pulling the cap at the same time. It might help if you can take some pictures and send them to me so I can better ascertain the situation.

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendations for a 2012 Honda Pilot Without a Factory Tow Package
  • There are a few different options that you have to install a 4-way or a 7-way trailer connector on your 2012 Honda Pilot. Option 1 would be to install the Tow Ready 7-Way Wiring Harness, # 118265, that you referenced and use a 7-way to 4-way adapter like part # PK12716 so you can connect to the 4-way connector from your trailer. The only downside to this set up is adding a brake controller. Since your vehicle did not come with a factory tow package, it probably does not have a brake...

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for a 2015 Honda Pilot EX 4WD without Tow Package
  • Based on your 2015 Honda Pilot EX 4WD having an included Class-III trailer hitch, I tend to think you have existing wiring behind the trim panel in the cargo area on the driver side and under the vehicle on the driver side. The T-One wiring harness # 118558 and Curt wiring harness # C56170 you referenced will work with your Pilot whether you have the tow package or not. With that said, I would go with the Curt wiring harness # C56170 because it's more economically priced. The OEM...

  • 4-Way Trailer Connector and Mounting Bracket for a 2015 Honda Pilot
  • To add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of your 2015 Honda Pilot I recommend Tekonsha harness # 118558. It and the other available 4-Ways install and function in the same way but we hear about fewer issues with the Tekonsha harnesses. For a really simple 4-Way mounting bracket I recommend using no-drill bracket # 18140 along with 4-Pole bracket # 18144.

  • Difference Between Trailer Wiring Harnesses 118558 and C56170
  • The biggest difference between the tow trailer wiring harnesses that would fit your 2012 Honda Pilot is that the # C56170 is made by the company Curt and the part # 118558 is made by Tow Ready. The Tow Ready does include a few more relays, but either harness would work well for you. We tend to have better luck with the Tow Ready harnesses though so I would recommend that one.

  • Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller In a 2015 Honda Pilot EXL 4WD
  • For installation of the P2 in a tow-package-equipped Pilot you will use a quick-connect wiring adapter, part # 3070-P, to connect the P2 to the under-dash port on the Pilot. If you do not have the tow package which would include a 7-way at the rear of your vehicle you would need to go a different route. You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118558. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install...

  • 4-Way Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2013 Honda Pilot
  • I will be happy to help you out. For a 4-Way on your 2013 Honda Pilot, you will use wiring harness # 118558. All 2013 Honda Pilots are pre-wired but what that means is they can accept a harness that plugs in. The rest of the wiring is already pre-ran through the vehicle. We do not have a video but I have linked the detailed instructions for you. Installation will be simple and should not take long at all. Current pricing is available on the product page. The # 118491 wiring harness...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness and Ball Mount for 2014 Honda Pilot
  • If your 2014 Honda Pilot did not come with a factory towing package, then you have a couple options for installing a trailer connector to the rear of the vehicle. If you are only looking to pull the U-Haul trailers mentioned in your question, which use a 4-Way connector, you will only need a 4-Way connector on your vehicle. Since the U-Haul trailer only has a 4-Way connector, this means it does not have electric brakes that need to be activated. If you will only be hauling this trailer,...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2012 Honda Pilot
  • We have trailer wiring harnesses available for your 2012 Honda Pilot, but to pick out the correct one you will need to know which trailer connector you have on your vehicle. If you have a 4-way you would want a Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118558. This connector is characterized by a flat connector with 4 wires coming out of it. Most likely this the harness you would need. If you have a 7-way on your trailer you would want a Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring Harness...

  • How to Identify Presence of Tow Package on 2012 Honda Pilot EX-L
  • The best way to confirm whether a given vehicle has a factory tow package present is to check with a local dealership using your vehicle's VIN number. The dealer should be able to easily look this up. Also, please note that what physical attributes actually constitute a 'tow package' can vary between auto makers and vehicle models. We offer a 4-pole harness for the 2012 Honda Pilot without tow package, part # 118558, which includes relays and a flat 4-pole connector. This kit installs...
