Replacing Factory Hitch on 2006 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I spoke with a Toyota dealership service center today about replacing my 2006 Toyota Tundra hitch which is rusted out. They indicated that it had to be replaced with a Toyota Hitch $1600 because it is part of my frame. Not sure I believe that. Looks like I should be able to unbolt it and replace it with part #13184? Would you be able to confirm that this part number will fit my Toyota and provide a solid hitch for me to pull my travel trailer? Thanks.

The answer to your question will depend on if you have the actual 'factory' hitch which is incorporated into the bumper brackets or the 'dealer installed' hitch which is just bolted to the frame.
If you have the dealer installed hitch, you can remove it and replace it with the # 13184 you'd looked at. If you have the actual factory hitch, you'll need to replace the rear bumper with one for a vehicle that doesn't have the factory hitch.
If you do replace the hitch, you'll want to give the rear frame a careful look over to ensure the frame members are still sound.
