Installing Hitch On A 2020 BMW X5 With Automatic Trunk Sensor
Question:
Hi. I have 2020 BMW X5 and about to purchase hitch #76288. My car came with automatic trunk opener where you kick lower bumper than trunk opens and closes. When installing this hitch, do I need to remove that sensor or somehow will it block the sensor?

As part of the installation instructions it is required to drop the exhaust and disconnect sensor wiring. The sensor later gets reconnected and will work with your hitch.
I did contact the manufacturer on your behalf to confirm this hitch is a fit for all models of the X5 except for the M sport package. We also checked their records to see any reports of this hitch not working or special installation instructions required with the sensor and found no concerns so the Draw Tite # 76288 will work fine for your 2020 BMW X5.
If you decide to do some towing, you will need trailer wiring harness like the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT that's a great choice for installing wiring without the need to cut or splice wires. You will also need a ball mount and tow ball so an adjustable mount like the Pro Series Adjustable 3-Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # 63070 is a simple solution. It's a great choice because it allows for a variety trailer heights and coupler sizes for convenience and flexibility.
