How To Install a 7-Way Trailer Connector On a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with Factory 4-Way

Question:

My factory 4-pin harness plugs in at the left, rear light. So I am concerned that PN-HM42190 will not be long enough to replace the harness. When the 4-pin harness exits the rear light area, it is solid until the bumper. So there is nothing for me to remove at the 4-pin connector to then plug in the new product. Do you understand? I took a picture, how do I send it?

I have exactly what you need to install a 7-way trailer connector on your 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. It sounds like you have the factory tow package therefore, all you would need to do is remove the 4-way you have now and replace it with the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector part # HM42190. This will make for a completely plug and play installation. In order to mount the trailer connector onto the vehicle I also recommend the Mounting Bracket for 7-Way part # 18138.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180. The Echo is a relatively new brake controller that is gaining a lot of popularity. The reason for this is because it does not require any modifications to the tow vehicle, it just plugs into the 7-way and you use your phone to customize settings and activate the manual override. The other major reason as to the growing popularity of this brake controller is because it uses a device you are already comfortable using (your phone), you do not need to read an entire comprehensive manual and familiarize yourself with the controls and codes to use it. Please note that if your phone loses power the brake controller will still function as normal.

I have attached a review video on the above trailer connector for you as well.

If the 4-way trailer wiring harness that you have attaches behind the tail lights then that means you DO NOT have a factory trailer wiring harness like you stated as the factory trailer wiring harness does not install in this manner. The 4-way trailer wiring harness may have been installed at the dealer but this is not the same as the factory tow package which uses a square port like that on the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector part # HM42190. Since you do not have the factory tow package then in order to install a 7-way trailer connector you will have to use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7. This harness will plug into the 4-way you already have installed but you will then need to hardwire in three additional wires. The first wire is a black 12 volt power wire that will be run from the 7-way to the vehicle's battery. The second wire is a white ground and will need to be attached to the Jeep's frame. The third wire is a blue brake output wire that will be run from the 7-way into the cab of the vehicle to the brake controller. If you use the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 then you do not have to run the blue brake output wire.
