How to Remove Rotary Switch from Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent
Question:
I have a Ventline Vanair Vent and watched your video on how to remove the screen from it. However, the video did not show you actually unscrewing the small switch that holds it to the screen assembly. I have an airstream B190 1998 and has not had this fan changed. It is fully functional and I dont want to replace it, just clean the screen. The switch appears to be different from the one in the model you used in the video. I am enclosing a couple of photos FYI. I am afraid if I try to snap the switch cap off I might break the switch. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

The switch design for the Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent part # VP-543SP has since changed from the rotary style you have to the push button design referenced in the video. I called and spoke with an engineering contact at the Ventline division of Dexter Axle and they informed me that in order to remove the switch you need to trace the two wires up and remove them at the source rather than the switch. There is one wire that goes to the motor and the other goes to the rv's power circuit. The wire that goes to the motor has a fast-on connector whereas the one that goes to the rv's power circuit has most likely a wire nut.
The other option you have is to cut the two wires and just splice them back together. You can also install the new switch with part # BV0199-03 but this would require a new screen as well part # BVC0515-05.

This is super helpful information. Albeit a disappointing that we have to trace the wire back to The main camper wiring in order to remove the switch properly! My switch is broken and I need to replace it. I’m planning to have to cut the wire and splice in the new switch with a wire nut. Can you Explain why I would need a new vent cover If I replaced the rotary switch with the push button switch? The vent cover that y’all sell looks incredibly similar to the vent cover I have (that works with the rotary switch).
