Will Using Timbren Helper Springs Help to Reduce Trailer Sway
Question:
I have a 2013 F250 Powerstroke diesel crewcab and are towing a 8,000lb travel trailer 760lb tongue. We have noticed an increase in sway compared to our previous gas Chevy 2500HD same trailer, hitch equip, etc. Will the Timbrens actually decrease the sway we are now experiencing? This truck does sag considerably more than the Chevy did, so I know that plays a factor as well.. Thanks!

If your trailer is a bumper pull and not a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer then the best way to combat trailer sway and rear end sag is to use a weight distribution system. Timbren springs on your 2013 Ford F-250 will help reduce the sag and will help with side to side body roll of the truck but will not do as much for trailer sway as a weight distribution system with built-in sway control.
If you are not currently using a weight distribution system I recommend the Reese Strait-Line # RP66084 with ball # 19286. This system is rated for 600 to 1,200 pounds tongue weight. It comes with dual-cam sway control that, when properly set up will prevent trailer sway from starting.
If it is a 5th wheel or gooseneck then if the trailer is not level it can lead to an increased chance of sway. This is because the weight of the trailer is not evenly distributed to its axles and to the hitch in the truck. Too much or too little pin weight in other words can lead to sway issues.
