The boost button on the Tekonsha Primus IQ Electronic Brake Controller, # TK90160, is used when you might be towing a full trailer versus an empty trailer, if the electric brakes are worn or not adjusted correctly, or if you will want the trailer braking to lead the tow vehicles braking. It allows a more aggressive setting for your trailer brakes.
The boost will have three different levels. When the boost is off, the power to the brakes starts out at zero and increases with deceleration. With the boost on level 1, the power to the brakes will start out at 13 percent more of the power setting and increases with deceleration. With the boost on level 2 or level 3, the power to the brakes starts out at 25 percent more of the power setting and increases with deceleration.
The power setting will have to be set first, before setting the boost.
I am sending a link to the installation instructions of the Tekonsha Primus brake controller. It will describe the boost settings and shows a chart on when to use the different boost settings.
