When the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 shows flashing bars either at the top or bottom of the display this means that the controller's vertical installation angle is outside of the acceptable range.

For this specific brake controller the acceptable mounting angle is from 0 degrees (level) to up 90-degrees in the vertical plane, as shown in the linked image. The controller must also be level horizontally and pointed in the direction of travel to operate correctly.

When the display shows flashing bars at the top of the display this means the vertical angle is too high; when it shows two flashing bars at the bottom of the display this means the angle is too low. I also included the complete troubleshooting chart from the instructions, which are also linked for you.

If you cannot mount this controller within its required range you might consider the Prodigy P3 # 90195 which offers enhanced performance and features and which can be mounted at any vertical angle you prefer.
