Lighting Requirements for a Boat Trailer Over 80 Inches Wide
Question:
My current Shorelander trailer has 2 amber front marker lights and 2 amber mounted fender side marker lights. It also has a 3 light ID bar under the center of the trailer. The trailer is over 80 inches wide. I dont see any rear clearance lights on the fender. I assume that the rear clearance lights are contained in my rectangular tail lights. Would this be correct? My question then becomes does the Optronics STL16RB and STL 17RB going to LEDs meet the requirements for Rear Clearance lights with the edge of the tail lights?

Expert Reply:
For trailers that are over 80 inches wide, less than 30 feet long, and have a gross weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less I have the following lighting requirements:
2 brake lights
2 tail lights
2 turn signals
2 rear reflectors
1 license plate light
2 rear side marker lights
2 rear side reflectors
2 front side marker lights
2 front side marker reflectors
2 rear clearance lights
2 front clearance lights
Rear identification lights (ID lights are often grouped into a single light bar like what you have now)
Using the ID bar you have now the light kit # TL16RK covers the rest of the rear light requirements. I have included a link to our help article on trailer lighting requirements for you.
