Electric A-Frame Jack that can be Mounted Sideways to Allow Tailgate to Open
Question:

Take a look at the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack, # UF38-944014 with 2-1/4 inch outer tube diameter, and # UF38-944016 with 2 inch outer tube diameter. Both of these jacks could be mounted so that the motor housing is facing the front of the trailer or either side of the trailer. Mounting it to the side will give you a little over 2 inches of additional clearance.
If this still isn't enough to allow the tailgate to open, it is certainly possible to have a steel plate welded further back on the trailer frame to allow you to move the jack rearward. A local trailer shop should have no problem doing this for you. You'll want to be sure the install is done by a qualified welder.
Please keep in mind that the trailer will get heavier the further back you mount the jack so one with a higher capacity may be required.
