Video Transcript for Hidden Hitch Ball Mounts 80233 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number 80233, this is the Hidden Hitch ball mount with a 2 3/4 inch riser, 4 inch drop. It features an extra long shank, rated at 6000 pounds. This is designed to fit a 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. This portion here is the portion that slides into your hitch. When choosing a hitch ball make sure that the shank of the hitch ball does not exceed the ball hole diameter. It gives us a measurement of 1 inch so we'll use a ball with a 1 inch shank diameter.

Take a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole and center of the ball hole gives us a measurement of 16 inches. The distance that we have from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest point of the weld on the ball platform is a measurement of 10 inches. When using this in the rise position make sure you have enough clearance from the rear most part of your vehicle to the upright portion here. Make sure that doesn't make contact. So from the center of the hitch pin hole to the beginning of that weld here, that support bracket, gives a measurement of about 9 1/2 inches. If we install it in the drop position which would be this position and take a measurement from the top of the ball platform to the inside top edge of the receiver to our hitch, it gives a maximum drop of about 4 inches. If we do that same measurement with it in the rise position, it's about 2 3/4 of an inch in rise. It features a hollow shank.

It's made from a steel construction with a black powder-coated finish on it. It is going to stand up really well against rust and corrosion. It's rated for up to 6000 pounds of gross towing weight and up to 600 pounds of tongue weight. If we measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the shank it measures 2 1/2 inches. The draw-bar thickness measures 3/4 of an inch. The overall length measures about 19 3/4 of an inch. The way this installs is you would simply slide the mount into the receiver tube of your hitch until you hear your pin hole align up with one another.

Then insert a hitch pin clip or hitch pin lock, those are sold separately. Refer to our website to see some options or just go there and type in part number PC3. It will refer you to this 5/8 inch pin and clip that I'm using in our video today. With everything tight and secure, you'll be ready to make your connection and get out on the road. That's going to complete today's review of part number 80233, this is the Hidden Hitch ball mount with an extra long shank. .

Overall, I have to say that I am satisfied although not particularily impressed. The finish on the ball mount is mediocre ... there are several spots where the paint is chipped off for instance. It was received today and installed today with no use yet the pictures show the areas in question. You can tell by the label installation that someone who really didn't care rushed the operation. It also fit considerably looser than the Reese bar that I removed. I had to apply several turns of duct tape around the tube to make it as snug as the original. As I said, it'll do fine, just not impressed. 93822

The long ball mount fit my project well, maybe a bit longer than I needed. I added (welded) a 6" receiver tube (using 2 pieces of 3/4" square stock as spacers) to the top of the tube in order to carry my bike rack and tow my boat at the same time. The bike rack is a Hollywood Sport Rider 2; Tray Style Bike carrier. Trailer is a B & M Tilt Bed Trailer for small boats on an interchangable ball hitch. 54832

We needed a new ball mount for our pick-up after we added a rear step. We searched everywhere for an extended ball mount and finally found one at etrailer.com. The service was excellent and the item arrived in a few short days. It was exactly what we were looking for. Thanks. Chief Dave Hollands Pelican Fire & Rescue 8312

This draw bar is working out great. My spare is 13 inches wide and only 2 inches above my receiver. This bar allows me to connect my trailer with ease. I was using an extender and it required two locks ,it was heavier, and just more trouble to use. Now I am ready to go in minutes. 21835

I needed a longer ball mount with my spare tire swing. I tried the extension piece to move it out but I didn't feel comfortable with having so much movement back there. found this one and it looks like it will do the trick. plus its a higher rating than the shorter one I have. 59846

This longer ball mount was what i needed to give me more room to open the back door on my FJ when towing a trailer. Have to take it all out for a test drive soon. Also added a side mount swivel jack to give me some more ground clearance. The picture only shows the jack. 143128

This extra, extra long ball mount is just what I needed so I could lower my truck tailgate without having to unhook my camper. The ball mount was shipped and delivered promptly. The only negative is that the two holes that are used to connect it to the receiver hitch were improperly aligned. I had to use a grinder bit to remove about a 16th of an inch of metal so I could get the pin through all the holes. Tough job but at least I know the steel used is good quality! 155298

I have a Chevrolet Venture Van and suffered for 2 years not being able to access the gear in the back due to the rear tailgate hitting my boat when opening. After looking locally for a longer ball mount that no one had listed I found it at etrailer.com. Just the right length, a perfect fit, at a good price and to top it off it was delivered the next day. You cann't ask for any better than that. 103934

I purchased the 3 bike hitch mount (S64600) and the ball mount (80233). I am very happy with the quality of the items, and the only issue I had was the pins did not align with the holes in the bike hitch mount and had to be forced in. The items are well made of heavy stock and should be adequate for my purpose. 48117

Works perfect! I got one of these because the tongue jack on my trailer was hitting the rear-mounted spare tire on my Jeep. Problem solved! I especially like the fact that it has a 6000/600 capacity, unlike the adapter things that all seem to lower the hitch capacity to 3500/350. 773

Expert Answers about Ball Mount 2-3/4" Rise or 4" Drop - Extra-Extra-Long, 6,000 lbs - 80233Do you have a question about this Ball Mounts?

  • How do I use a Bike Rack and Pull a Trailer at the same time
  • We carry a very handy 2 inch ball mount for this exact application. The part is # D210. The ball mount slides and pins into your hitch and the top receiver will accept 2 inch bike racks and hold them above the ball. The Ball Mount has a 500 lb tongue weight capacity, which means that the bike rack and the bikes on it as well as the trailer tongue weight cannot weigh more than 500 lbs or the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, whichever is lower. We also have a bike rack that clamps...

  • The standard ball mount that is recommended for the 2011 RAV4 has a 2 inch drop and a 3/4 inch rise and in most cases the # 80232 ball mount will be correct, but this does not mean that it will be the correct ball mount height for towing your trailer. The height of your trailer coupler and the height of the top of the receiver opening on your RAV4, when parked on a fairly level surface with the trailer frame level, will be needed to determine the correct ball mount drop or rise that...

  • How To Tell If The Swagman Folding 3 Bike Towing Rack # S64955 Will Fit On A Drawbar
  • You are correct , the drawbar, also called a ball mount, is the bar with the hitch ball on one end and the other end fits into the hitch receiver. On the Swagman Folding 3 Bike Towing Rack for 2 Inch Trailer Hitches, part # S64955, the base does measure 3-1/8 inches, so you will need 3-1/8 inches of room for this rack to slide onto the drawbar. The other measurement you will want to make is from the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch to the ball hole on the drawbar. This measurement...

  • Will Using a Super Extra Long Ball Mount Increase Trailer Tongue Weight at the Hitch, Toyota RAV4
  • It looks like you are using Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75432, on your Toyota RAV4. Since this is a class III trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver, it can handle the additional torque associated with using a longer ball mount like # 80233. The trailer tongue weight will remain the same. If it is 212 pounds pushing down on the hitch at 8-1/2 inches, it will still be 212 pounds at 16 inches. But there will be some additional torque on the hitch and backing the boat up on the trailer could...

  • 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Extension with 5,000 Pound Gross Trailer Weight Capacity
  • I do have a solution that might work for you, though it is not an extender. An extender would end up reducing the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent anyway so it is not the best solution for you. Instead, I recommend a long ball mount. Take a look at # 80232 as an example. It is rated for 6,000 pounds and measures 16 inches long from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. It has a 3/4 inch rise or a 2 inch drop. We also have # 80233. Same length...

If you are needing 18 inches, this ball mount will come up just a little short. A fixed ball mount, like # 80233, is just a little longer at 16 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. • Using Extra Long Ball Mount Instead of a Hitch Extender
  • A hitch extender, like part # HE06 can be used with the ball mount you mention, but due to the additional leverage applied to your receiver the tongue weight capacity will be lowered by 50 percent. If the tongue weight capacity of your receiver is 500 lbs, using the extender would lower the capacity to 250 lbs. If you can find one to fit your needs, a better solution would be to use a longer ball mount. Part # 80233 offers a 4 inch drop or a 2-3/4 inch rise. Part # 80232 offers...

We have three 2 inch receiver hitches available for your vehicle. I would recommend part # 87403. I have included a link to the page with all the hitches for your vehicle. • I went out into our warehouse and measured a Ball Mount 2-3/4 inch Rise or 4 inch Drop, part # 80228, and found that the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest portion of the lower reinforcing triangle is 5-1/16 inches. Check out the picture to the right to see this measurement in action. For use with the Folding 3 Bike Towing Rack, part # S64955, that you referenced we usually recommend the following ball mounts: Ball Mount 3/4 inch Rise or 2 inch Drop,...

  • What are the Top 3 Ways to Carry Bikes While Towing a Pop-Up Camper at the Same Time
  • There are a few factors to consider when determining the best and safest way to carry bikes while towing a pop up camper at the same time. You have to consider the tongue weight of the trailer, the amount of bikes you wish to carry, and if there will be interference between the loaded bikes and trailer when making turns. The design of the pop up camper is also an issue. If it has an A/C unit on the roof, or anything that could possibly interfere with a rack or the installation of a rack,...

  • Recommendation for Using the Thule Double Track Bike Rack # TH990XT When Towing a Trailer
  • We have 2 options that will allow you to tow a trailer and use a bike rack. The shank on the Thule Doubletrack Platform-Style 2 Bike Carrier, item # TH990XT, is not designed, or large enough, to accept a draw bar for towing a trailer. The first option, and probably the best, is to use a towing bike rack like the Swagman Original Folding 4 Bike Towing Rack, item # S64975. this rack will allow you to carry up to 4 bikes and tow a trailer as long as the weight of the bikes, bike rack and...

  • Availability of a 12 Inch Extension for a 2010 Ford Super Duty with Factory 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch
  • We currently only offer 2 extensions that fit 2-1/2 inch receivers and those items have had fit issues with the OEM Ford 2-1/2 inch receivers. What you may be able to do is use a reducer sleeve, # 58102, to get it down to a 2 inch opening. But please consider the following: Ford OEM hitches have a tighter/different radius on their 2-1/2 inch receiver tubes. To accommodate the OEM Ford 2-1/2 inch hitch, the corners of a ball mount, shank or reducer sleeve may need to be sanded down to...

  • Adjustable Ball Mount Recommendation for a Jeep Liberty with Rear Mounted Spare Tire
  • For your Jeep Liberty, I think the best adjustable ball mount option is going to be the CURT Multi-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount, # D900. It has a length of 16 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. It also has a maximum rise of 5-3/4 inches and comes with a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, and 2-5/16 inch ball. Or, if you are looking for a fixed ball mount that is long and still has a rise to it, take a look at Hidden Hitch Ball Mount, # 80233. This ball...

  • Recommendation for a Bike Rack for Use When Towing a Trailer with a 1996 Jeep Cherokee
  • There are a couple of options for you to carry a bike a rack and tow a trailer at the same time. First, you can use a towing rack. The rack you have referenced, # S64095, would be best used on a ball that mounts to the bumper of a vehicle. Instead, I recommend the Swagman XP, # S64955. It fits around a ball mount shank. A couple of things to note about this method are the ball mount length and the tongue weight. This bike rack requires that the ball mount have a distance of 10 inches...

  • Will Hitch Extender # HE18 Allow Camper to be Towed with Tailgate Down
  • The Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, part # RM-048-2, is intended for leveling a tow-bar when flat towing a vehicle behind a motor home. It cannot be used to tow a camper. You might be able to use part # HE18, which is a hitch extender. This item adds 18 inches to the length of the receiver but also cuts in half its tongue weight capacity. You will need to make sure that the combined weight load of what you intend to place in your vehicle plus the weight of your towed camper does not...
