Helpful Expert Reply:
According to Dexter Axle, the attachment bolts for a 12 x 2 brake assembly should be torqued to 25-50 foot/lbs.
If you don't have a torque wrench handy, if you tighten the bolts until the lock washers flatten out, you'll be pretty darn close to that range.

"until the lock washers flatten out." Is absolutely wrong. That is not how threads work at all, I'm a machinist. *The washer can be flat before the threads have stretched and formed slip resistance. *Threads operate within the "elastic deflection" range before the "permanent deformation" limit. *"If you don't have a torque wrench handy" You should not be working on anything that goes down the road. This mentality is very dangerous and advising people in this, 'until your elbow cricks mentality' opens you up to civil liability. *Any time your providing people with torque specs you should provide a direct link. so that they can confirm for them selves, because no one should trust you, a third party, not to make a mistake. By doing this you are referring them to the manufacture instead of giving "advice".
